 This component is a simple and elegant personal messaging system built entirely with the new MVC framework, which makes template overrides possible. It is compatible with Joomla! 1.5 only. You can send messages to multiple users and it has a user suggestion function. It is also possible to use BBCode and smilies. The inbox size can be defined by the administrator and can have a different value for each usertype. Users can disable the service for themselves with the UserMeta plugin. It supports three languages at the moment:
* English
* French
* Dutch
No configuration is required to use this component. The documentation can be found here. To download, click here. A component is available to migrate to the new version without losing all messages. If you want to see this extension in your own language and you're willing to translate it, please post a message in the forum.

good extension, but not perfect :) i have problem with Cyrillic :) Owner's reply: As I don't speak any language that uses Cyrillic, I haven't been able to test that yet :)
But if you want that corrected, just post a bug report in the forum with some info so I can understand what happens when you use Cyrillic through my program.

this is a great little system that works straight away without bugs and loads of adjustments. It's basic but good and the developer is very helpful!
I tried some others but got javascript errors and it was all very time consuming.
Great work.

I mean it works very well and fast. I'm terrible myself at creating good designs so I do wish it came with a default template to it. It's definitely very simple even in it's "look" but I won't count off for the fact that it works beautifully. I like the way it looks up users with ease and recognizes comma delimited usernames! I highly recommend this if you're looking for a very simple solution for messaging on your site. A note to the author: you should set it up to use templates and this thing will be phenomenal! I can only imagine what people could make this design look like... Owner's reply: Thanks!
I'll try to add those templates as soon as I can. My main priority was to make the interface usable, but it's a good idea to let users make their own templates.

Great component! Simple, elegant, does the job.
Would be great to have the usermeta done as part of this component install, so that the function is integrated rather than having to do another install. But otherwise, great component. Owner's reply: Thanks!!
I would have added the usermeta to the install if I could, but it's impossible with the current joomla version.

| Quick to install - could not get to work :( by damianjbunn, February 25, 2008 |

As the title suggest very quick and easy to install and started using straight away. The problem I had is that once having sent a message to someone, they click to go to the inbox and the screen is totally blank. Not really sure what has gone wrong. If I can get resolved a thumbs up from me.
Damian Owner's reply: Please send me an email with the address of your site so I can help you.

Maybe it's just me (and if it is, do let me know) but, the inbox field is shoved way down at the bottom of the page, even if I open it in a new window, none of my users would ever think of scrolling all the way down there to find their messages. It might also be nice if the component provided a list of the users on the site rather than guessing as you type. Clearly the component is aware of the names of the users, a nice scrolling box with the names of the users might be a good addition but, with this bug about the inbox being all the way down there, I can't make use of this component at all. Owner's reply: That's strange. I've never had the problem of the Inbox you describe. Are you using another theme/template than the standard theme (I haven't tested that out yet)? And user suggestion is one of the features. It's strange it doesn't work. Could you send me your site if it's online so I can debug my program?

| Perfect addition for social networking by AmyStephen, January 31, 2008 |

Message for Joomla! v 1.5 mailbox system is a perfect addition to a social networking or group blog site, allowing members to exchange private messages. It is integrated with Kevin Devine's UserMeta extension so that those members who prefer to turn this functionality off are able to do so.
The mailbox system is easy to use. A bit of javascript provides easy lookup on username and name, and enables messages to multiple members. It is easy to navigate as you send, review, respond to or delete messages.
This extension has been constructed specifically for Joomla! v 1.5 using the MVC architecture (which means template overrides are possible) and utilizes security tokens in the forms to prevent CSRF. Excellent work!

Only problem I'm having is that I can't seem to read received messages in Firefox. I can read them in Internet Explorer. Using Firefox 2.0.0.11.
