 Smartsef BETA 1.0 is out. The smartsef component is an url rewriting component for Joomla 1.5. With Smartsef you can turn Joomla 1.5 into real SEF url's without numbers or other logic within the URL's. Smartsef gives you full control over the Joomla 1.5. generated URLs and the order how they must displayed.

SmartSEF was the only SEF component that worked without a problem and eliminated all the duplicate urls. Only problem is that my site slowed down considerably. |

After trying sh404sef and realising my RSS feed no longer worked I searched the extensions.siliana.com forums for a solution. Nothing helped. Everything else on my site worked well, but the RSS feed link refused to work - simply reloading the current page.
As i'm new to Joomla! maybe it was something that could have been easily fixed, but I got fed up of fiddling with settings that seemed to make no difference. In frustration I uninstalled sh404sef and installed Smartsef. I'm glad I did! Without changing any settings at all it works perfectly. |

Works lika a dream.
I was afraid there might be a conflict with other addons I use that relate to links (sitemap, automatic target=blanks on external links), but no problems at all. |

Pros:
Firts of all it's free!
Indeed it works better than all others in Joomla 1.5. Pagination works, it installs with no problems, it gives all articles, sections and categories a unique URL, no matter what kind of layout you use (blog, table) for sections/categories and no matter where is the link that point to! UNIQUE and Very fast. Really SMART, ha?
Cons:
It does not translate Joomla variables in the default (set by user) Joomla language.
It gives 404 pages on virtuemart at checkout, or when you add to cart an item, pagination, ordering products.

Not sure how anyone can give this extension a bad review. It works better than most do for joomla 1.0 and it is still in beta phase. I have a feeling anyone giving this less than 4 stars shouldn't be doing web development in the first place. Thanks for all the hard work... |

I tried sh404SEF and ARTIO JoomSEF.
But this,Smartsef URL, was the only one I hadn't encounterd errors/bugs.
All seems to work good. Very good.
All I had to do was just install it.
The default configuration do it all.

Works great for VirtueMart categories, but when it is time to check out look out for 404 errors (because of script errors). Still works great for other extensions. You might need to make some adjustments to Community Builder, but not anything major. |

Doesn't support port numbers besides 80! Forum admins seems apathetic towards fixing it, instead suggesting an alternative that doesn't use port numbers. I would love to use this some day! |

I want urls like this:
http://xxxxx.com/section/category/article.html(without Content ID numbers)
I tired other SEF plugins,they cant change urls like that, or I don't know how to config them.
This one is easy to use! |

Simply put, Smartsef generates logical, user-friendly urls. It does so instantly, out of the box, without lots of fiddling and configuring -- though there are plenty of ways you can fiddle to get things "just so", if that's essential. The website / support forum are equally simple and straightforward. And it's free, as in beer. |

Works great, Richard is very helpful. You get support like it is commercial extension though it is free. Use it with Sef patch for the joomla version that you are using and you are good to go for any search engine. |
