Hi,
I wish I found this tools a few month ago. While it could use better documentation, if you look around and dig a bit you will what you need to get this working. It would be nice if there was a JS tag editor for those Items that that allow formating. It would also be really nice if you could reference data for images and URL's from column data in the field for linked text or image display.
Even with those wish list items. This is a very useful tool that allows you to create links to tables and include tables in your content.

Table Manager 2.0.14 is a very time-saving extension. Well done.
However, the manual needs improvement. There are two help files in the TM Ddownload section: an HTML-file with an introduction to get you going and a PDF how to format the tables. However, nothing is said about the extension view, where you can filter the data and apply aggregate functions. It took me quite some time to find out that view options applied to a table only appear on the frontend when you substitute the table name with the view name in the parameter section of the menu, to which the TM output is linked.
Parameter for simple table:
table=table name
Parameter for a table with applied filters, aggregate functions, order of columns:
table=view name (of table)
I single manual, which covers all aspects would benefit the extension very much as it is otherwise excellent.
Improvements of table formatting:
Headings of columns are left align, number fields are right align (which makes sense, but looks impossible). To get all left change in geda_include.php on line 553 $align to "left".
Would be nice if such formatting options would be accessible in the backend.
The German translation file has quite some mistakes. Needs improvements.
Nevertheless, on the bottom line very recommendable.

Great tool by amadorj23, December 20, 2007

Was looking for something like this for awhile now. I am using to organize master schedule of over 300+ employees. Now my managers can update one master list and I have it being displayed in 12+ different views based on role in company, supervisor, open positions, off schedule employees, team 1-8, etc...

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly by SyntechDesign, October 22, 2007

The Good...
Great idea, I have always needed a way to allow my clients to easily edit tables and this does just that.
Love all the the options added since I first tried this addon out awhile back in a site, the table views make it easy to create many views using just one table.
The Bad...
Max Characters is set to 255 for the input fields, which is fine for certain things but for a product database it just didn't cut it. We went in and changed it to allow more chars in the fields.
The BB like code is annoying, It should allow html as well.
The Ugly...
This component, based on web standards is very poorly coded. Just inserting a table with a mere 2 columns and 6 rows pulls a whopping 41 errors on the W3C validation service. That doesn't cut it for me, for a component in which you are now charging people to use.
When editing table data you are forced to do it in tiny little edit boxes, which when you are adding 500+ characters into fields can get quite annoying. I went in to the admin form and simply added... style="width: 100%" on the input box to make it easier to see.
All in all this is a great addon with great potential but I have to say that these validation problems need to be sorted asap.
I will be disecting it this afternoon to try to get this all valid, which for something i just paid money for, I really think i shouldn't have to do. i bought this to save time, not eat up more of it.

It's easier to use an HTML editor than fight with this. by dburrows, August 3, 2007

I wrote to the developer but still have never heard back from him. As I thought it would help me, I paid the forced "donation fee" (not much, 3 Euros, about $4.10) before I could download it and spent the next 4.5 hours trying to get something usable out of it. I wish I hadn't. Using a simple, open source HTML editor like Nvu and pasting the results in the HTML editor of Joomla would have taken much less time. I need to replace the data in the same table every month. This toy cannot do that by a long shot.
What really gets me is that I described what I needed when I wrote and I asked Claudio before spending any of this time if this extension would meet my needs; he simply never replied. He is in Italy and the language barrier may be an issue. If so, it's not one easy to cross for non-Italian speakers. I could not use this extension and am not happy about having wasted so much time when it could have been avoided.
The manual is written in poorly worded English but is otherwise adequate to fight through to get running. Claudio should pay a native English speaker to clean up his tutorial and English web site but I really don't see the need for his little extension in the first place. Navigating his website is another story; it's very poorly organized. I'm very disappointed, most especially that he hadn't the courtesy to respond to my query, much less before I wasted my time.

This was very easy to install and use. My questions in the authors forum were answered quickly by the author.
If you need to create a table to present data Table Manager works excellent. Highly recommended. Saved me a lot of time instead of trying to figure out how to create my own html table.
Thank You Claudio

Fantastic - did exactly what I needed! by jackbremer, June 13, 2007

Well, this has saved me LOTS of costly external development - I have it displaying lists of companies sponsoring various events on my site. I can update which events a company sponsors in one place and know they will be up to date in the article.
TIP - make sure you think about your columns and rows - columns need to be the categories of info, and the rows need to be the individual entries in the database. In my example, I used columns as "company name" and then a column for each event, and the rows were each separate companies. By putting a 1 as true for the events companies sponsored, I could filter the displayed results by whichever event = 1. You can turn off the various columns in the view so that you end up only displaying the info you require.
ANOTHER TIP - if you don't want the description of the view to appear, just put a space (putting nothing will result in the view's name showing up).
Great work - I'd like to know if it can be used to display info from other database tables on the server though, such as those generated by Joomla or Phil-A-Form etc.???

Can't add records by Cramer, April 25, 2007

I certainly like the idea behind this component, but I haven't been able to get it to work properly. I can install it (and the mambot) and create a table structure, but, I cannot add more than one record. I have the problem with both versions 1.03 and 2.02 (unstable). Anyone encounter the same problem?

It seems to work fine now... by knk, March 3, 2007

But I needed to update to Version 1.0.3 in order to make it run on my webspace configuration (I had SQL-errors before).
This cannot be downloaded from the original download center, but from http://www.iw1qlh.net/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,0/func,fileinfo/id,4/
only - I wonder why.
And I did not manage to install the help and the mod_part - this does not work conform to the Joomla-standards. I am missing any readme or instructions how to install as well.

Also Can't Edit a Table by CallidusLepor, February 28, 2007

I am running into the same problem that jonjeramy noted.
The install of the 1.0 Stable Release succeeds and I can create a new table. However, when I click on Edit Table in the Table Manager I get the error:
-----------------------------------------------------------
You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near \'\' at line 1 SQL=SELECT count(*) FROM jos_geda_columns where id_table =DB function failed with error number 1064
You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'ORDER BY ordering ASC LIMIT 0,30' at line 2 SQL=SELECT * FROM jos_geda_columns where id_table = ORDER BY ordering ASC LIMIT 0,30
-----------------------------------------------------------
I contacted my hosting provider and they told me that I do have temporary table privilages, so I know that this isn't related to that issue that has been noted in other posts.
Anyone find a workaround to this issue (or an alternative extension that does the same thing?

Couldn't edit a table by jonjermey, February 12, 2007

I tried to use this in the latest Joomla and got an error message when I tried to edit a table for the first time:
You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near \'\' at line 1 SQL=SELECT count(*) FROM jos_geda_columns where id_table =DB function failed with error number 1064
O-O-O-kay.. is there an update or a patch for this or is it just due to my own setup (WAMP5 on WinXP)?

I found this component very good. Simple idea but very useful. Very easy for site administrators to update the listings without having to worry about table layouts in the wyswig editor.
I would like to see a search facility added though which would be excellent.
