Export Content
Export Content will move section(s), categories, content items and or static item(s) from Mambo to all versions of joomla or between Joomla sites and will allow you to move data from Joomla 1.0+ series to 1.5+ series or back without any programming knowledge.

It works by installing com_export_content on any sites you wish to move data between. It will then compile selected section(s), categories, content items and or static items into a component that may be installed via the site installer on any other site where com_export_content is set-up.

You will then have the option of transferring the imported data into the destination site database by the following methods:

+ Single or multiple section(s) and all the categories and content contained in them.

+Single or multiple categories and all the content contained in them.

+Single or multiple content items.

+Single or multiple archived items.

+Single or multiple static items.

You are also able to edit any imported content before transferring it into the destination site. This may be necessary if a section has the same name as one on the destination site or if you simply want to make any changes.

Now also able to move content from Mambo 4.5+ or 4.6+ over to any version of Joomla.

Incredibly useful extension by corrado444, October 29, 2008
I love this extension. I can;t wait to try it between Joomla 1.0 and Joomla 1.5 but I have used it several times in Joomla 1.0.x and it was a real life saver.

If I can make a suggestion, it would be great if it could be set to move also any html style modules so that any content in there may be moved at the same time.
But I understand that it may be a lot more complicated than it sounds.

Top rating!

Excellent Work by helloneo, September 6, 2008
I used this component to move content from J 1.5.6 to another J 1.5.6 site.
Worked flawlessly, within 5 minutes I was able to move the content. Too good. Keep up the good work.

plays nicely between joomla 1.0 and 1.5 by mgj4, August 1, 2008
This works pretty well and is fairly intuitive. I exported all the content from a small joomla 1.0 site by section. Then imported the content into joomla 1.5 on another site. The menus did not export or import, however, just the content/articles. Overall, pretty helpful!

Solid extension - needs some work, but not much. by khellhound, June 19, 2008

This has made my life SO much easier. It installs and runs in an easy to use, straightforward manner.

Now, the one problem is, I have a content database with more than 30,000 items. Most of you out there probably don't have something QUITE that large, so this extension will work just fine for you.

For the larger sites - you'll need to export your content piece by piece (I had to export by category to get small enough chunks to extract).

Then to insert them in the new site, I've been having to insert by content item, not by section or category (long story, and my fault on that one) - Even so, if I try to insert ALL the content items from a category (say more than 1000 items each), it tends to time out before getting them inserted, so I've been inserting 100 rows at a time (which is painful).

Aside from that, it's a wonderful and VERY easy to use tool...

...Maybe I shouldn't have such a large site...?

Really quite easy by neocreo, June 13, 2008
Really easy to use. Clear instructions (once you installed the instructions are in the component itselffor you to RTFM).

Renamed a section in my old site, exported it, installed it as a component in my new Joomla 1.5 site, used the export tool to transfer the content into Joomla and hey presto! Then it was just a question of moving the content inside to my new site structure.

Only thing that bothered me was an error message when I uninstalled the content I exported.

Now all I need is for it to be as easy to move my users over with VirtueMart installed.

Worked Well! READ INSTRUCTIONS!!! by noneck, June 9, 2008
I was trying to do this manual and by chance I searched the Joomla Extensions site, to my amazement there was a component to transfer content from 1.0.x to 1.5.x!! If you read the instructions provided, you should have no problems. Instead of using the images export function though, I manually copied the images over, but the end result was the same. Thank you very much for this component, when I get some extra money, I'll definately donate.

Works for me by Amgeek, May 26, 2008
Great time saver. I have used it on a few small sites over the past few months as I start working with Joomla 1.5. Ran into a few bumps (with the J1.5 version mostly) but they were probably due to my not reading the instructions (if there were any J). Found the “installing in legacy mode” confusing though I understand they have their reasons. Will be better if they figure out how to make it truly 1.5 native.

Owner's reply:
There are instructions on how to use each page under the left menu:

Support Menu->This Page Help.

Which gives step by step details on how to use each page that you are on.

It didn't work for me either by nigelbb, May 11, 2008
I encountered almost exactly the same problems as grwright.

I wanted to copy some articles from our old site to a new joomla 1.5 test site. I was very disappointed. Basically the content of the articles didn't get imported correctly. The images saved was the whole of /images & the list of images consisted of one image instead of all those present in the articles.

I spent a whole afternoon trying various permutations thinking that I was doing something wrong when clearly it wasn't.

I really did wish this would work. While I am happy to manually unload/reload database tables (this is what I had planned on doing before finding this component) a simple menu-driven tool for inexperienced users would be nice.

I suspect the problems that I had are due to some PHP/MySQL version mismatch with this component but as their are no System Requirements or any documentation as such it's difficult to know.

Owner's reply:
I'm sorry to hear you had problems.

But as you did not post on the support forum I was unable to help or to try to find the error that may be causing the issue.

Best thing since sliced bread by brian, April 28, 2008
This extension is the best thing I have seen for joomla and mambo for a very long time.

for me this is the "killer app"

Great Concept But It Doesn't Work Very Well by grwright, February 21, 2008
I needed to copy a bunch of articles from one site to another so I gave this a try. I was very disappointed. The interface is awkward and not intuitive at all. It didn't copy the information about images correctly so I had to go into each article and correct everything. Not to mention, it doesn't copy the articles along with the content. You have to do that separately in an extra step and then it just blindly copies *all* the images. Once I got all that fixed, I noticed that some of the characters in every single article were incorrect (things like quotes, apostrophes, etc) so I had to correct all of those as well. In the end, I spent as much time as I would have if I had done them all by cut and paste.

Great concept but not ready for prime time.

Owner's reply:
The interface is virtually identical to the standard section, category and content managers of Joomla????

I thought articles were content????

All images required for the articles are listed below the download???

Do date Export content has been downloaded thousands of times and the above issues have not been reported so I would suggest the problem is with site not the component.

If you would like help please post on the support forums.

Great stuff! by marcelke, February 17, 2008
I use it with Joomla 1.5.1 and its works great. Simple installation and good tutorial.
I have moved content from one site to another with no problems at all!

I you want to move content, this is the tool for you!

Marcel

Very good idea but... by kehagiem, February 5, 2008
Very good idea and a useful component to move content. However, if your site uses Joom!Fish then not of any use, since it takes only the original language. What's a petty.

Works Pretty Well by ajkochanowicz, February 1, 2008

For some reason, even with the 1.5 installation, you must still enable legacy mode.

It's simple enough for the task at hand, while the steps are a little confusing, if you just follow the instructions, it works out okay

Owner's reply:
The reason Export Content version 2.0.0 for Joomla 1.5 needs to be installed in legacy mode is so the languge file (translations) may be used for versions 1.7.0 and version 2.0.0 and the upcoming release of Export Content for Mambo.
