Great software by arsoy, June 24, 2008
its not as complicated as the previous people say its is. if you know how to install joomla! you should also be able to install freeway. and its the only shopping cart that offers services, events and a bunch of others stuff aside from products and downloadables.

I had no issues installing the Joomla! component and modules. And it worked as expected. For those that can't seem to get this to work... read read read.

All the information you need is there.

I look forward to watching this mature.

Just installed the newest Freeway. So far works like a charm. Installation was a little confusing but very easy once I calmed down and read ALL the help guides. Kudos!! Now we'll see how conforming it to look like my shop goes, but I think this will be doable. Thanks for all the hard work Freeway Team!!!!!!

great potentials for the future by marcomedia.de, June 3, 2008

The Freeway project, an enhanced modification of osCommerce, is suffering from some children's diseases but it has the potential to become a real monster freeware application during the next months.

Via "Freeway Integration" Freeway can be implemented into the joomla frontend for realizing applications like shops, event bookings, services bookings, newsletters etc.

The joomla bridge is still in some kind of embryonic state and does not work with every server configuration so far. Unfortunatly I wasn´t able to merge these powerfull applications so far but I´m sure that the ambitious and helpful developer team will solve these problems very soon.

So I´ll give a rate of 2 for the moment but I´m sure I´ll switch it to a 5 very soon.

Very complicated by sirius, May 30, 2008

I have been trying for almost a week to get it to work without success. Very complicated and never worked for me. I dont know if it was me or the software itself. I dont think that its integrated into Joomla completely. Lots of work needs to be done to this component. I give up for now and I will check up in the future. Sorry guys.

Not a Real Extension - Not Ready for Prime Time by joomer, April 24, 2008

Freeway appears to be a very full function and rich eCommerce solution as a STAND ALONE system. When access their site from the links available here, you are taken to just a small piece of a much bigger picture, and you can expect to spend hours sorting everything out.

First, I must say that Freeway does show a lot of promise. In about 6-12 months, I expect I'll change my vote to "Excellent", but it just isn't ready yet.

1) You must first install and configure the Freeway software before starting with the Joomla "extension" piece. Good luck finding the link to this software.

2) Before you do #1, you must first, manually create a new, separate database for the Freeway system. (well, it can share the same MySQL database, but it appears everyone is keeping these separate for now).

3) If you have Joomla SEO turned on, then you MUST turn it off. They claim this will be fixed by around May 7-10, but we all know that this could take longer.

4) The Freeway administrative interface, for defining products, services, etc, is so completely separate from Joomla you must login separately. Once in, there is no way to access any Joomla admin functionality, unless you have this open in a differnt browser window.

5) The Freeway forums lack any means of searching, so expect to spend hours manually searching for the one tid-bit of info you need when you get stuck.

6) The documentation to understand how to configure the system, what settings to set, etc. is vaporware at this time. Yes, they have a table of contents, but there's nothing else at this time.

I have posted several questions to their forums, and have wasted hours of my time trying to locate information. I am now giving up, but do expect to check back on their progress.

This is THE cart.

granted its a bit complicated... but you'll get there if you follow the installation document.

what the person who reviewed before me seems to not realise is that Freeway is actually an independent system... but this component bridges it with Joomla... so it is essential to install freeway first then to create the link - which is explained in the installation document.

Too complicated! by rocole007, April 1, 2008

I've been wrecking my brain trying to figure out how to install this component, with no avail. The features sound terrific and I was really excited about the potential use. However if your a novice like me as it pertains to development and don't want to waste your time reading tons of documentation, perusing forum after forum you may save yourself a ton of hours and just purchase a "real" out of the box payment system. I searched the forum further and found out that you can get support for this tool but your going to have to pay at least $500 dollar for standard support platinum was like $4000. I'm not trying to bash these guys - because the tool seems like it can really kick butt. However if your not a developer or experienced or an experienced server admin the installation and configuration of the tool is just too complicated. I would recommend - creating videos that walk users through the process visually - or creating better technical documentation that clearly explains the installation process in terms of steps, actions, and requirements.
