CQI - CustomQuickIcons
CQI (Custom Quick Icons) is the replacement for the standard admin module 'quick icons' for faster access to the most needed/wanted components.
Define which component you ever want for quick access, assign icons you like. Restrict access, rename, access keys - many options ...
With the installation a component and a module will be installed and automatically activated (standard module is only inactiv). If you ever decide to DEinstall CQI, your former standard module will be activated again

CQI ist der Ersatz für das Standardadminmodul 'Quick Icons'. Schneller, einfacher Zugriff auf die am meist benötigten, beliebtesten Anwendungen.
Definierung beliebiger Komponenten, Namen, Icons, Berechtigungen ... etliche Einstellmögichkeiten. Mit der Installierung wird das Standardmodul INaktiv geschaltet. Sollte CQI jemals wieder deinstalliert werden, wird das vorige Standardmodul automatisch wieder aktiviert

Must Have by Indaba, November 23, 2008
For anyone looking to customize their workspace this is a must have. It does exactly what it says and is extremely easy to use.

Extremely helpful in making the workspace make more sense for clients.

I will be using this on all my sites in the future.

Very convenient indeed by JoeBackward, November 8, 2008
This little extension does a great job of setting up shortcuts to particular functions on the main administrator page.

This is Essential by tandys, October 13, 2008
As others have said, this is a component that should be folded into Core. On the other hand, the number of great components out there that should be in core is great enough that the Joomla! distro package would balloon to the size of the FTP repository of WUSTL. Hence, this is something a new Joomla! user needs to get clued in on.

An easy to use UI is vital. It makes workflows smooth and efficient. The native UI in Joomla! is good, but CQI simply takes it to a new level. It is easy to use, and exposes the new user to core administration cxoncepts of Joomla! in a clear fashion, helping to cut the learning curve. And it makes running Joomla! easier.

I teach a class in Joomla at a local Adult Education school. Tonight, part of the class is going to be spent with CQI. I consider this class will be an important and productive one.

Very nice, worked a charm by paddylatino, August 10, 2008
Once again, an extension that would be quite at home in core joomla.

the out of the box joomla admin is not really geared towards the people who will ultimately use it, the small font and long menu of components with weird names are hard to use.

however this really helps to make their lives and our lives so much easier.

Thanks a lot!

CQI vs Extension Icons by joemcl, April 13, 2008
I'm quite new to Joomla- neat stuff here! So I wanted to see what each of these components do.

"Extension Icons": what it does- working only with components- it does very well, although its icons are very small (someone more clever than I could probably figure out how to enlarge them). It was just too limited for my uses.

CQI also has its limits. For instance, I have J Cal Pro installed, and I wanted to set up an icon to go directly into the Events Manager- no luck (again- I'm a newbie- maybe someone here can help me with it!). But it beats using the main menu.

Nevertheless, I was able to set up a Control Panel that has the ONLY icons they need- no more navigating through the main menu.

One thing alone makes it worthwhile- I have a big, fat Global Checkin icon for those inevitable, irritating times when you accidentally use the Back arrow on the browser instead of X/Close/Cancel. It is a very useful program- my thanks to the developers.

Owner's reply:
Hello joemcl,

general i want to ask all users to go to the forum at JoomlaCode and post their suggestions or problems their.

About the 'limits': beside of the pre defined links (usually components) you can define every link to every component/module/plugin. Just watch browser bar and copy the link you see there.

Add an icon (or only text) - thats it.

Even you could assign CQI to any other position (new feature since 2.1.0) - for example 'cpanel' and voila you will have all icons 'presented by CQI' there - and the standard quickicon module can stay at the position 'cpanel'.

But the best new feature (also since 2.1.0) is to disable the 'admin menu' and show CQI only the defined usergroups or even one (1) user (e.g. a manager, not admin).

Many possibilities ......

Fantastic by Hockeyump, April 6, 2008
Thank. If you try and administer your site from a PDA/Smartphone there are bits that are either a pain to get to or absolutely impossible, like modules. This makes it possible to put in icons to get to those impossible to reach places.

Use This Component by Gosling, March 7, 2008
This is one of the first things I install on a new site. Though there are a couple of things that bug me about it. Like the default icon for a new article is a big red cross. I guess the idea is so that you can see it's been changed, but it annoys me having to go in and change that one every time I install when it is one of the icons I don't plan to change.
Still full marks to the dev, this is a great addition to your site and really easy to use.

Huge for making the admin easy for clients by dthdevelopment, February 28, 2008
I'm so glad we found this component! Now we can customize the admin for clients in a way that we were not previously able to. Thanks for making this available! Nice work.

Brilliant by assur3, February 8, 2008
One of the 5-6 extensions we install immediately on every joomla site. Just that good and a practical necessity if you have any normal clients who may need to use the admin functions.

Any plans to make it J1.5 compatible? Please, please? The component already installs fine on Khepri, but the module install seems to have a small bug. We need this on J1.5!

Kudos to the developer for a terrific contribution.

Great Component by tlearyus, January 23, 2008
don't you just love the Joomla Community !! Needs get filled by common requirements.

this component works well as stated but my only question is how to add more than 12 icons ?

SWEET!!! by rldavidson2, December 28, 2007

Holy Cow!

I am using Joomla more and more to quickly bring up sites for charity/non-profit groups and organizations. Rather than taking on the task of managing their content full time, I am bringing Content Developers up to speed with the back end interface for managing the stories and calendars, etc.

With QuickIcons, I can both simplify and expand the QuickIcons section, making it that much easier for the Content Developers to stay focused on the task at hand, creating and maintaining relevant content for their group.

This is the best thing that I've put up on the sites for those new to the Joomla environment.

Helped me help other administrators by webdoc46, November 27, 2007
The back end of my site has to be accessed by various people with various levels of computer skills. Quick Icons makes it easy to have a specific icon going to a specific place (like processing users who paid their dues, or adding content to specific categories or sections). This way, I just tell someone to log in, click on the appropriate icon, and they go straight to the proper place with no confusion.

Plus it helps me with the areas I access the most. I can get rid of icons I'm not using, and get them back easily if needed.

Really nice product by JoomlaShowroom, September 18, 2007
I'm a firm believer that if you use someone's extension then you should be courteous enough to leave a review for them.
This module was very easy to use and set up. On my sites I have an extremely long list of components that I need to access very frequently. This module gave me the ability to put some links to my components on the admin homepage of my sites. Making my job so much easier and more productive. I can't believe it took me so long to try it out. This is a must for anyone that needs some easy ways to access your components in a hurry instead of scrolling through a long list of components to find what you need.
Thank you for this!

Great! And support is great, tool! by amasters, May 4, 2007
I installed this wonderful extension and had the same problem a previous reviewer did in that my icons disappeared. So I wrote to Michael and he was incredibly fast to respond and fixed it right away. My problem was that it got published to the wrong position. The correct position is "icon." Now I've created two new quickicons and life is so good... I made a customQuickicon for its own administration icon "list" so now I don't have to search through the list of components anymore.

It only took a few minutes of messing around to figure out how to make new icons, too.

Better than ever by LocaLiceR, April 13, 2007
This new version is better than ever. ^5

Much easier to use for a new user, because you just have to select the desired component from the drop down list and press the arrow button and specify the additional details.
