| Good with minor bugs by asciikerr, September 18, 2008 |

It installs fine and works as expected but with some minor kinks that "some" may be able to live with. Here is what I did not like:
*If you posted an article with a Tag and later deleted the Tag through the IDoBlog Admin Interface, then your post would also go away. You had to find it in your Sections/Categories and repost it, so don't delete your tags that tie into your posts specific to this Blog component. :)
*The Calendar links fine to the Blog(s) for the day/month accordingly, but if you click on the calendar "day" link from the "viewpost" area then it gives the error: "Blog is empty". The viewpost in the URL messes it up, it should be pass "task=&userid" instead of "task=viewpost&userid" as seen by the calendar links below:
index.php?option=com_idoblog&task=&userid=&year=2008&month=09&day=18&modid=44
index.php?option=com_idoblog&task=viewpost&userid=&year=2008&month=09&day=18&modid=44
The 3 templates that come with it are OK, I hard-coded a bit of my own customization into it which wasn't too big of a deal with some simple html. Overall, I can live with the bugs for now, I'm sure they can be fixed easily with some simple edits. This component has some potential and the bugs are not that serious, I'm sure better templates will come along. I'm sticking with it for now in hopes it will grow and I may the input I provided help somebody regarding the minor bugs.
I like it...

It's a good start, but there is no Flexibility and no way to customize it visually. I do not usually write reviews, I actually registered to write this one. I have to say that after spending large amounts of time, testing and setting up this component, I am extremely disappointed that I can not do anything visually to customize the component or it's modules. To make matters worse it is set up to utilize templates, but there is only one template available and no instructions on how to create your own. The component is extremely "hardcoded" and joomla template CSS seams to have no effect on it.
I'm going to keep my eye on this one as it has a ton of potential, but until they work around these issues it's pretty useless to most Joomla developers. Perhaps since there is such a lack of good blog extensions for 1.5 we will soon see some improvements.

Downloaded this a few days ago and consistently get errors, cannot get support on the developers site, I have registered there and cannot find any way to log an issue, and their faq's etc don't provide any usable info for the problems I have. I cannot recommend this product. Owner's reply: Support on our site is one of most quickly. 70% - is Joomla settings problem, 10% - template problems, 10% - server's settings problems, and only 10% problems - IDoBlog's problems, but we try solving all of them.
Write in support again, I don't see your question.

Easy to use and install. The only downside is probably the lack of customisation options, but that will likely change with newer versions. Also, I haven't yet gone through the css yet so there should be a lot more scope for custmisation there.

| So Far So Great! by djcoral, August 7, 2008 |

Okay I have been testing this on a Local Site pretty heavy.
So Far it is great! I really like this. Really Clean and Functional.
It's a great little community deal..with the light users profiles and comments system. I can see this will work great for some sites.
I had no trouble customizing the .css and making it match my site.
Just a few suggestions,
--when adding a blog user has abilty to choose section and category to place it.
--The offline and online small user icons are ugly-make em clean.
(I have replaced mine already)
-- When you hover over these icons it says "online" or "offline".
All in All good deal.

Partly a useful Blogging-Plugin. Because:
Uninstall doens't work properly. After using the main unistall button in the Backend Panel, it leave the imression that toe extensions is removed. But in the component folder "idoblog" keep remaining.
Somehow an email is sent from your domain mail client to the owner(if configured) mentioning the site, where the plugin has been used.
An additinal component for pointing out all the different categories would be a big plus.
Don't try using and pubishing Blogs for "registered users" only. I happens that it shows them anyway. No matter if it's marked for public or private reason. So a deep gap of security. Owner's reply: where are you see that we made "using and pubishing Blogs for "registered users" only"?
we made only next permission set up :
Who can to comment
Who can to write into blog
Who can to moderate blog
Captcha
Where you saw what you wrote? What the "deep gap of security" you found here? All of permissions rules that we toke is standart Joomla's function.
Please write in our support's blog, we are very interested of your information =)

I started using this a few weeks ago and had some problems, as a previous reviewer did, but I posted and asked for help on the support site and they helped me figure out how to fix it. It works great now! There's still room for some improvements, but it's a new component, and hey, it's free! It's the only component of it's kind that's free and they're still constantly working on development so I'm sure it'll keep getting better and better. Thanks for an awesome component!

Great product! Very easy to install and use. An added bonus is the code is very clean so any small changes are easy to make. There's not much formal documentation but going and posting on their site gets a very fast response from other users and the admin. The developers are responsive to user requests for changes and this is definitely the best blogger I could find for Joomla! 1.5 native.

I think that the option to choose whether to have a CB based community or IDoBlog community is something that admins only can decide, and it would be nice of IDoBlog developers to release at least a simple plugin to connect CB profiles to their latest Blog entries.
Im now understanding all the competition and why the developer refuses to make a CB plugin (check discussion on IDoBlog website)
CB is a way more advanced component at the moment and it will be even more with the new version, so why not using it for now?
In the meantime, IDoBlog could develop their own community component, but it will take time, and Im afraid that for now a CB plugin would be a much better option, and would definitely attract more people to it.
I rate it excellent anyway. It is a great extension.
