What a time saver! by cswebmaster, July 18, 2008

I am working on my first Joomla! site. Several manuals I have read recommend this editor. It has already saved me a lot of time in formatting articles written primarily in MS Word. I expect it will really pay for itself when I start receiving user submitted articles. Great tool, very reasonably priced! My one setup issue was solved by a timely email response from Tim. Thanks for the help and the product!

had to give up after five weeks of trying by macuser, June 22, 2008
|
Problems with this extension were constant. It was not possible to load it on a Mac, so I had to load on a PC and could only use it on a Mac afterwards. It was also incompatible with each of the other components I tried and took a long time to debug and get working. However I wanted to use it because of the CSS styles. Finally I learned that it would not move with a site from a dev to production location and had to be reinstalled each time it was moved because of the inner structure of how it worked. Then, when trying to do that and finding that it still would not permit a single article page to be viewed and edited, I submitted a request for help. The tech person responded in an inflamed and accusatory manner and cut off my access to the software - after five weeks of trying everything to get it working correctly and consistently. This may be a good product but the difficulties are insurmountable to have it work consistently and have a help ticked handled in a polite manner.

Great Extension by demo38, May 15, 2008

Great improvement over the previous versions and well worth the money. I needed a way to lock down what controls users had access to for posting, does this perfectly. Also having definable locations for organizing images, documents and media built in. Spot on. Great work on this!

Flexible, Elegant, Reliable Editor by AAuerbach, May 8, 2008

I'm a bit cheap (g), so I hesitated to buy Wysiwyg Pro until I saw the refund guarantee. But it is worth the money. It seems more stable and reliable than many of the Joomla 1.5-compatible editors, and offers a number of advanced features I need.
What really impressed me, however, was the fast and helpful response from the developer when I requested advice on how to change some of the defaults. In one day I got back clear instructions that allow me to modify the editor's setup to precisely fit what I need to do.
For basic editing, Wysiwyg Pro seems just a little slower than TinyMCE and some others. So perhaps there's a tradeoff of feature depth for speed.

Most user-friendly editor out there by focusedconsulting, April 17, 2008

This editor will let you upload documents and images within the editor, link to other pages on your site without having to copy/paste URLs from another window, and writes clean HTML. It does have a code tab to access HTML as needed. No funky "mce_src" or other strange code. Best of all, this has a widget for copying/pasting from Word and cleaning up its mess. Integrates just fine with Joomla 1.5.2. The $54/license cost is well worth it, as it will save you support calls in the future. I am putting it on all client sites going forward.

A Great Editor by SpikeB, April 12, 2008
|
I'm developing my first Joomla site.
When it came to choosing an editor I got the 4 users who would be responsible for editing the content of the finished site to test several of the editor plugins on offer.
They all chose WyswygPro 3 for its ease of use. They particularly liked the file browser. These are basically the same reasons why I've enjoyed using it to build the site.

I've recently purchased WYSIWYGPRO and I have to say I'm really very impressed. I noticed the reviews below are quite old and for the previous version, so for those looking at this component, I'd really recommend testing out the latest version 3 on the demo site here:
http://joomla.wysiwygpro.net/
It looks like the developers have done a huge amount of work to address all the issues below and it is very solid and I'm particuarly pleased about their ongoing development of a decent editor for J!1.5.
As the developer of a site, it's an excellent product for customization, html formatting in source code view along with intuitive pop ups accessing your image library, cut and paste from Word and table layouts etc...
However I really purchased this for it's front-end editor WYSIWYG functionality...
I'm building an intranet portal for some guys who are specialists in their field but they also need to keep parts of the intranet up to date with best practice, sharing of information and the latest documentation.
They just can't do it with e.g. TinyMCE - as it is immensly frustrating and fiddly to use when making basic edits to text formatting and the page looking different in the editor to when it is published.
Since introducting WYSIWYGPRO it's made a huge difference with editing and styles matching the template, better table layout, copy and pasting and basic formatting of text.
As such, I'd really recommending trying it out.

Not work with Opera by sayuro, January 1, 2008

On it's demo webpage, tried to open it with Opera 9 and simply don't open with a message "Try a supported browser"...
For a paid solution, it's very limited.

WP 3.0.1 is a first class editor by fugazer, November 20, 2007
|
I've tested many editors for Joomla CMS but nothing compares to WysiwygPro 3.0.1!! Yes, .1 is a huge update to the core feature list which includes relative links within Joomla. The editor has great versatility and preforms all the standard function needed for simple content management, or advanced scripting.. 3.0.1 is a version we have all waited along time for and i'm proud to say that the WysiwygPro team has really come through with this release. Congratulations on a great product!

If only it had documentation by gmoore, November 18, 2007

Installed very easy and works like a charm. It solved some image padding problems that I had not been able to figure out.
I only wish it had documentation - maybe a user manual. I think it's cost would justify that.

Fantastic editor, fantastic support by starlight, November 18, 2007

This is a fantastic editor, particularly the image manager in the new version 3. The new image manager allows you to do things that Joomla's own media manager doesn't - such as moving images from one folder to another, and copying from one folder to another. Additionally, there's a document manager and a media manager.
You can create custom toolbars, or use the default one whilst removing buttons you don't want.
Another nice new feature in V.3 is the ability to drag the editing box and make it larger.
Importantly too, support is first class.

best editor so far by cbrehm, March 15, 2007

Some may balk at spending $47 on a wysiwyg editor when Tiny and JCE are available for free, but for sheer ease of use and lack of bugs, it is worth it. One thing it does is it allows the end user to upload images and so forth by browsing a local hard drive--rather than specifying a URL to some mysterious Joomla directory--important when you're using Joomla as an intranet portal and most of the contributors have no knowlege of HTML or Joomla for that matter and don't even know what a URL is. It is the only editor where toolbar pop-ups on my developement computer actually worked, rather than hang interminably.
Not perfect, but the best editor I've tried so far.

Very easy to use, simple and very efficient. You can upload pictures directly from your PC. I like it better than JCE and TMEdit.

It has it's moments, but.... by NetGoonie, November 28, 2006

After making the purchase and using it for awhile and seeing some cool things in it, I did start to find things that need attention by the makers.
Pro's - it has a pretty decent document management for finding and linking to things in your page or site. It also has a fairly decent image manager as well which is why I originally got this for my joomla CMS.
Con's - As I have used this, I seem to come across either missing features that free editors like JCE have. For example, if you need a link to do a popup window, you cannot set parameters for the popup window; this one is only for a straight up full window. Another is if you create a module, the editor is squished off to the right side, so a fix for this is to do a setting in the mambot as "Fixed". Another is that the editor does not wrap code, nor does it have a feature to click to do that. I did find out any pages of the mambot inside the /mambots/editors/wysiwygpro/ directory turns out to be accessible in a browser, despite it being in the joomla CMS which one for the /mambots/editors/wysiwygpro/image.php showed my complete folder structure of site, page, graphics and images (I've informed them of this). Another is that if you use the snippits feature, the editor puts in tags after each line on its own (which I also informed them and they acknowledged with saying, do the code all on one line for the time being). There are more I can say here, but overall, I think for what this mambot has in it, or I should say what it doesn't have compared to say JCE as an example, the price does not justify it. The only one thing that stands out is the document and image manager which is a bit better than the free editors. But thats pretty much it.
