After reviewing every option we could find, we found wysiwygpro to be the best overall editor. It is intuitive for our clients to use (this was a top priority), and has lots of great features including the menu item and article browser. We are using the latest current release of Joomla and Virtuemart and did encounter a small bug but their developers fixed it asap and gave us an update quickly. Just what we would hope as far as support goes.
Thanks guys, keep up the good work!

I got this for the college I work for and I've found not only that it does everything I expected it to and that faculty and staff here find it easy to use, but I've been very pleased to discover that the support from the developer has been quite prompt and personal. Specifically, I received help for a couple of custom hacks I needed to make to the code to meet our school's specific needs, which has helped me to keep my sanity. :-p
An additional note:
I have used several other extensions, most notably JCE, and one of the most useful aspects of WysiwygPro for me has been the ability to define a list of styles that my end-users (authors) can choose to apply to their content. This has greatly reducing the likelihood that they'll start adding in formatting or CSS that isn't standard/compatible with the rest of the site's style--while still allowing them some degree of control over their content's presentation.

Besides being a very marginable product....
There is no user forum, no documentation and the support is very lacking!

I have been using WysiwygPro since it was first available several years ago, and, I'm still using it. It is definitely my first editor of choice.
The product works, well and efficiently, no need to gum it up with plugins and add ons, it has everything I want and then some right out of the box.
It installs easily using the standard joomla installation route.
The support provided is second to none. Its fast, responsive and they fix the problems, which I might add have been exceptionally rare, with speed and grace that almost takes your breath away and certainly leaves you wishing that other vendors would copy!!!
All in all this is a stable, well rounded, robust editor which rocks with features. Of special note is the ease that you can transition from wysiwyg editing, html source and preview mode.
Its a beaut and deserves to be installed in every website out there.
If I could have given this product 10 stars I would have given it 20!

I am working on my first Joomla! site. Several manuals I have read recommend this editor. It has already saved me a lot of time in formatting articles written primarily in MS Word. I expect it will really pay for itself when I start receiving user submitted articles. Great tool, very reasonably priced! My one setup issue was solved by a timely email response from Tim. Thanks for the help and the product!

Problems with this extension were constant. It was not possible to load it on a Mac, so I had to load on a PC and could only use it on a Mac afterwards. It was also incompatible with each of the other components I tried and took a long time to debug and get working. However I wanted to use it because of the CSS styles. Finally I learned that it would not move with a site from a dev to production location and had to be reinstalled each time it was moved because of the inner structure of how it worked. Then, when trying to do that and finding that it still would not permit a single article page to be viewed and edited, I submitted a request for help. The tech person responded in an inflamed and accusatory manner and cut off my access to the software - after five weeks of trying everything to get it working correctly and consistently. This may be a good product but the difficulties are insurmountable to have it work consistently and have a help ticked handled in a polite manner.

Great improvement over the previous versions and well worth the money. I needed a way to lock down what controls users had access to for posting, does this perfectly. Also having definable locations for organizing images, documents and media built in. Spot on. Great work on this!

I'm a bit cheap (g), so I hesitated to buy Wysiwyg Pro until I saw the refund guarantee. But it is worth the money. It seems more stable and reliable than many of the Joomla 1.5-compatible editors, and offers a number of advanced features I need.
What really impressed me, however, was the fast and helpful response from the developer when I requested advice on how to change some of the defaults. In one day I got back clear instructions that allow me to modify the editor's setup to precisely fit what I need to do.
For basic editing, Wysiwyg Pro seems just a little slower than TinyMCE and some others. So perhaps there's a tradeoff of feature depth for speed.

This editor will let you upload documents and images within the editor, link to other pages on your site without having to copy/paste URLs from another window, and writes clean HTML. It does have a code tab to access HTML as needed. No funky "mce_src" or other strange code. Best of all, this has a widget for copying/pasting from Word and cleaning up its mess. Integrates just fine with Joomla 1.5.2. The $54/license cost is well worth it, as it will save you support calls in the future. I am putting it on all client sites going forward.

I'm developing my first Joomla site.
When it came to choosing an editor I got the 4 users who would be responsible for editing the content of the finished site to test several of the editor plugins on offer.
They all chose WyswygPro 3 for its ease of use. They particularly liked the file browser. These are basically the same reasons why I've enjoyed using it to build the site.

I've recently purchased WYSIWYGPRO and I have to say I'm really very impressed. I noticed the reviews below are quite old and for the previous version, so for those looking at this component, I'd really recommend testing out the latest version 3 on the demo site here:
http://joomla.wysiwygpro.net/
It looks like the developers have done a huge amount of work to address all the issues below and it is very solid and I'm particuarly pleased about their ongoing development of a decent editor for J!1.5.
As the developer of a site, it's an excellent product for customization, html formatting in source code view along with intuitive pop ups accessing your image library, cut and paste from Word and table layouts etc...
However I really purchased this for it's front-end editor WYSIWYG functionality...
I'm building an intranet portal for some guys who are specialists in their field but they also need to keep parts of the intranet up to date with best practice, sharing of information and the latest documentation.
They just can't do it with e.g. TinyMCE - as it is immensly frustrating and fiddly to use when making basic edits to text formatting and the page looking different in the editor to when it is published.
Since introducting WYSIWYGPRO it's made a huge difference with editing and styles matching the template, better table layout, copy and pasting and basic formatting of text.
As such, I'd really recommending trying it out.

On it's demo webpage, tried to open it with Opera 9 and simply don't open with a message "Try a supported browser"...
For a paid solution, it's very limited.

I've tested many editors for Joomla CMS but nothing compares to WysiwygPro 3.0.1!! Yes, .1 is a huge update to the core feature list which includes relative links within Joomla. The editor has great versatility and preforms all the standard function needed for simple content management, or advanced scripting.. 3.0.1 is a version we have all waited along time for and i'm proud to say that the WysiwygPro team has really come through with this release. Congratulations on a great product!

Installed very easy and works like a charm. It solved some image padding problems that I had not been able to figure out.
I only wish it had documentation - maybe a user manual. I think it's cost would justify that.

This is a fantastic editor, particularly the image manager in the new version 3. The new image manager allows you to do things that Joomla's own media manager doesn't - such as moving images from one folder to another, and copying from one folder to another. Additionally, there's a document manager and a media manager.
You can create custom toolbars, or use the default one whilst removing buttons you don't want.
Another nice new feature in V.3 is the ability to drag the editing box and make it larger.
Importantly too, support is first class.

Some may balk at spending $47 on a wysiwyg editor when Tiny and JCE are available for free, but for sheer ease of use and lack of bugs, it is worth it. One thing it does is it allows the end user to upload images and so forth by browsing a local hard drive--rather than specifying a URL to some mysterious Joomla directory--important when you're using Joomla as an intranet portal and most of the contributors have no knowlege of HTML or Joomla for that matter and don't even know what a URL is. It is the only editor where toolbar pop-ups on my developement computer actually worked, rather than hang interminably.
Not perfect, but the best editor I've tried so far.

Whenever editing a module or submitting a news item on the front end using FireFox, the layout is strange. It's still usable but is kind of annoying. But I can suck it up and use IE for now.

Very easy to use, simple and very efficient. You can upload pictures directly from your PC. I like it better than JCE and TMEdit.

After making the purchase and using it for awhile and seeing some cool things in it, I did start to find things that need attention by the makers.
Pro's - it has a pretty decent document management for finding and linking to things in your page or site. It also has a fairly decent image manager as well which is why I originally got this for my joomla CMS.
Con's - As I have used this, I seem to come across either missing features that free editors like JCE have. For example, if you need a link to do a popup window, you cannot set parameters for the popup window; this one is only for a straight up full window. Another is if you create a module, the editor is squished off to the right side, so a fix for this is to do a setting in the mambot as "Fixed". Another is that the editor does not wrap code, nor does it have a feature to click to do that. I did find out any pages of the mambot inside the /mambots/editors/wysiwygpro/ directory turns out to be accessible in a browser, despite it being in the joomla CMS which one for the /mambots/editors/wysiwygpro/image.php showed my complete folder structure of site, page, graphics and images (I've informed them of this). Another is that if you use the snippits feature, the editor puts in tags after each line on its own (which I also informed them and they acknowledged with saying, do the code all on one line for the time being). There are more I can say here, but overall, I think for what this mambot has in it, or I should say what it doesn't have compared to say JCE as an example, the price does not justify it. The only one thing that stands out is the document and image manager which is a bit better than the free editors. But thats pretty much it.

I purchased WYSIWYG Pro for use at my website - www.woodwardfamily.org - almost two months ago. I figured a more exhaustive use of the product before sharing my evaluation would make more sense.
Advantages
1. WYSIWYG has the advantage of being able to generate XHTML transitional code.
2. There is the ability to create code snippets in the backend for the front-end person to insert.
3. It will autogenerate thumbnails upon access to a directory
4. It has a nice linking wizard that allows linking to document bookmarks, documents in your directory structure, other articles in your website, or external websites.
5. The tabs at the bottom of each text window make it a snap to see what you type, and the html code the product generates for that type.
6. There is an import feature for Microsoft Word created articles into the editor.
Disadvantages
1. WYSIWYG's image insertion wizard is counter-intuitive. It generates an image thumbnail for you, but does not automatically (or give the option to) select it for inclusion in your article. It also does not offer to automatically creating the linkage from a thumbnail to the main image like other products.
2. The product is not consistent in it's generation. While the product will show centering of a number of paragraphs or images, upon save some of the images or content will appear left justified. Going back into the editor html shows the tagging was not saved.
3. The product import of Word text is very sloppy and inconsistent. It may be written for Office 2000, but does not handle Office 2003 well at all.
4. There is not an option for a "pop-up" in click an image link.
5. The "Preview tab" is useless - it does not display or render javascript or mambot tags (mosimage, jogadgets, etc.)
6. The xhtml generation is messy. It generates a lot of div, div", and nbsp; tags that are not needed.
7. The product does not handle sub or superscripting formatting consistently.
8. The support from the website and the author is horrible. I opened a ticket, got a response from the product creator (I had asked if there was an automatic thumbnail to main image function) that the author would have to respond, and never did until I sent a tickled the company five days later. The response came back a day or two after my tickler.
9. No end-user documentation on the products more complex features. The product assumes the users are technically adept.
Frankly, if you don't need xhtml compliant coding, stick with JCE. This product is not well supported, does not execute its functionality consistently, and not a feature rich as JCE. It would be worth more to the community and for appreciation to the JCE author.
