Are you having troubles with spammers in your guestbook ? then this is the component for you.
This component allows users to send comments and suggestions. An average user can setup the Guestbook within a minute.
Fully customisable, You also have the option of choosing which fields to be submitted and displayed on various pages.
Everything is now optional(name , email, etc), publish and unpublish guest items, Allow private Guest post. It also keeps the date and time the user signed the guest book. Has language support.
Full protection from Spammers, it uses session to delay the period between the posts. Makes sure users really visits the site before sending a post. Protection from header injection, spoofing, email cloaking.
The administrator Page is now fully equiped with great features, adminstrators can add, edit, multi-delete, publish, unpublish, define various parameters and update various guest messages.
The administrator has the option of reviewing comments before they are published on the site.
You can also choose which fields to show or those to be collected, you can now set you custom message to be sent to user.
You can choose whether a mail should be sent to Guest or not, also whether an alert should be sent to admin or not.
Dont forget to vote and send your reviews.
Also, I have made the component such that an average user can easily set it up and configure it as well.
Any body wiling to help in translating this component into any other language should please send me a mail.

I like it for its simplicity, but there are definitely some probs. The 'time between posts' setting does not work. You simply can't post again. I think it's waiting for the default value of 86400 seconds (24 hours) to pass. I tried changing it to 60 seconds and to 0. It takes 60 but doesn't work. It changes 0 back to the default.
So then.. you try and sign again, and you get a message that 'You Already Voted'. Really? I didn't know I was voting. I thought I was signing a guestbook. I would like the option to not even use a specified time between signings. CAPTCHA would also be nice.
I also find it strange that there's an option to add your home address. Why? Who leaves their home address in a guestbook? This can be disabled though, so it's not a problem.
I'd also like the option to set the value of posts displayed on the page, through the configuration, instead of allowing the user to set it through the front end.
Fix these probs and you have a winner! I really like how basic it is and I think there area many of us that would prefer this for this very reason, if working properly.
One final addition request: Allow an option to let the email address not be displayed, but still associated to the name left, whereby another guest could click the entry and email that person, if desired. This should be an option of the author, to enter this email or not.
Very promising. I hope you consider fixing the current code and adding these enhancements!
Thanks!

| mandatory e-mail address as reason for not using it! by stephenr, August 28, 2006 |

Hi Perry,
I really like your guestbook component. It's simple, easy-to-install and hands-on.
But as long as the signees have to include their mail address, I will not use the component. many people - including myself - do not like to hand out their mail address, and I do not want to motivate people who want to sign the guestbook to include a fake address like me@nomail.com.
If you would make the mail address field optional, I would immediately use your component on my site www.key-9.com
Cheers,
Stephen

Is is a good guestbook. If you want just a guestbook and no other unwanted stuff, take this component.
I have only one but; at my site the line feed is being presented as \r\n. Who knows why?

I've just installed your guestbook and it looks like a nice simple component which is just what I'm looking for.
Is it possible to disable the 'required email' field as this is the only part of it I don't really like - not everyone is happy to submit their email address to websites. Other than that it seems really nice.
Thanks

Hey Perry, if you still need space, let me know and I'll donate it. This was what I needed to adapt to a prayer request form. Thanks!

Tested this component on my test site and loved the simplicity of this guestbook. My only concern is that it might fall into the same trap as akobook which is lack of protection against spam until it happens.
Perry thanks so much for creating a neat component. I do hope you would continue to improve it!

Hi Guys,
Initially i designed this component for my church, that is why you see traces of it in the component, I am almost through with the updated version, which allows more customisation and very flexible to use and install.
I hope to release this by 10 July 2006, If any one can provide webspace I could setup a demo page to support it.

| Good but small probs by vjmorph, July 3, 2006 |

Good little module, but it seems I can't edit the guestbook.php to take out (or comment out) the church bits without the installer spitting the dummy when I got to install the module :( Even resaving the same guestbook.php withno changes causes the installer to fail.
