jPFChat Popular ComponentModule

jPFChat is a Joomla chat component built around the phpFreeChat script. This component is based upon the phpFreeChat latest v1.2 release, and includes a ton of user settings in the back-end. Both a Joomla 1.0.x and Joomla 1.5.x component and module are available now.

Register at our site to read more about it and to download the scripts.

NOTE: There are known issues between jPFChat and ALL joomla templates that use MooTools (if the mootools.js library is loaded in the template, there will be problems). There are several potential fixes outlined on our site. jPFChat uses the Prototype Javascript library, which CANNOT co-exist with MooTools in the browser.

I love it and I'm sure my users will too. Excellent work, very clean and easy to install. I tried a few others and found this to be the best.

Its working only for 50% of users of my site. I appreciate this component, because its great work, but if u planning install this chat, test your chat with more peoples. Some of them cannot join chatroom because chat is loading... forever... Pls rewrite this and make mootools more compatible.

We are VERY clear, both on our website and on these listing details, that jPFChat will NOT work if MooTools is loaded on the same page. This is NOT something we can do much about. It is a javascript library conflict that would require a complete rewrite of the phpfreechat script. Please READ the articles and not post negatively about something we have so freely and openly commented about.

Installed just fine (both the release and the 2.0 beta - tried them both separately). Made the menu entry behaviour to open a new window without navigation (as per his instructions).

window opened. Get the jpfChat logo...says it's loading the chat window.

never loads. Not with Firefox, Chrome, or IE.

Nice and easy to configure!
This is a perfect component and it works fine on my J1.5.7 site! Just configure the link to the Chat as a new window without navigation - as described on the developers site - and you don't have problems with mootools issues.
HI

I was able to install and use this JPFchat in minutes.

Works with Joomla registered users that will appear in the chat room as their registered name; and also guest users will be logged on at guestxxx or something similar.

Very nice extension and works with my old 1.0 Joomla

A really greate job! It is nice, simple, easy to use and JUST WORKS! Really greate job.
The only thing I had some problems with was the fact, that the url to chat-script named in the chat parameters has to be the same as the url you call joomla from. This can cause problems if you have a site with several different urls.

Nevertheless the best chat module I have tested so far. Thanks for that.

I had an issue after upgrading to joomla 1.5.7 where the usernames were no longer getting picked up and the random guest nicknames were being used. Tech Support was fast and had me fixed in less than 24 hours. I highly recommend!

I have used jPFChat in my website, it is a brilliant extension offers a lot feature to customise itself as you like.
But it does have some downside. 1 which I have encounted is it won't load up in IE.
The developer of jPFChat has already find the solutions to it which written on it's website. Personaly, I found the solution 2-a works for me, which require the component to be opened in a new window.
I am sure other solutions works fine, which I will give them a try later.
As the extension isn't commercial and user support has also been brilliant I shall hereby gratulate jPFChat for have been a truely brilliant extention.

I just had to enter a review to extoll the excellent support I received on this product. I have developed native HTML websites for nearly 20 years but am relativeely new to CSS dynamic software. When I attemted to convert a site to Joomla 1.5 I began receiving some strange error messages when opening the jPFChat link. Tim was extremely prompt in responding to my questions and his courtious responces did not leave me feeling like an idiot.

This turned out to be a MooTools issue and solution was so simple...I changed the menu link to open jPF chat in a new window without navigation and solved the issue in less than a minute. This option actually works much better as users can still navigate throughout our site and discuss items, etc.

The support for this product alone is worth having it on your site. KUDOS Tim... Keep up the good work.

I've tried all the chatrooms and this is the one that works the best. There was a minor issue after installation - I sent an email and the solution came back within hours. Thank you very much for a brilliant chat component.
I was looking for a chat for ages, installed about 15 of them and all of them was missing this, or that, or was too complicated, so I was about to jump in the source code, when I found this. It's working perfectly, all the visitors are satisfied, they are using it, and enjoying it!
Thank you very much, JPFChat, I recommend it for everybody!

I got tears in my eyes, when i see it worked like a charm in five minutes, I don't know how to thank you for giving us this product. It's great, i wish Joomla include this as their core component/plugin/module.

The documentation is great and within minutes i fixed IE issue.

Hat's off to the developer and I will do anything for him.

But I do wish to highlight few points, please do accept my apology.

1. TO MAKE it work in IE8, i set the properties to open in new window with browser buttons.

Than in firefox, the new window covers all your screen, I do wish to see if we can set new window properties i.e., height and width of the new window.

2. The user name appears before the text filed with small icons, this getting the cloud of users before the text/message field and it's infact covering up part of the text field, which makes it difficult to see when you try to type the message.

Please once again accept my apology for my views.

This is a great little extension. It installed easily and satisfies my needs, such as real time private chat for software support. Put it inside your members or registered users section and it's secure. For a simple live chat program this is ideal.

Just a few little aesthetic issues regarding the layout, otherwise it's a cracker and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a simple live chat facility.
After beating my head against the wall trying to get phpFreeChat to work in J1.5 I found jPFChat...but it wouldn't work with our template. I tried every trick I could think of and still nothing. After asking, reading, and searching, here is what I found that works:

The jPFChat site says to open it up in a new browser without navigation. That works perfectly.

Then, in the index.php file, I changed "Guest".rand(1,1000); // setup the intitial nickname Joomla username is ".$my->username." to $params["nick"] = _getUser(); and now the registered users' names appear.

This is a great component addition. Thanks to Tim for the support.

After trying a range of free chat components and modules this is by far the best I have come across. Great chat tools like;

- Text formatting features
- Icons & smiles
- Multiple user chat rooms
- Private chat rooms
- Configurable history lists
- Frontpage module shows who's in your chat room!
- Configurable chat message displays
- Works with Joomla! 1.5.6
- Free!

A fantastic tool - You don't need to look any further for a great chat tool - this is it!

After reviewing a number of chat options and knowing that there were issues with integration with Joomla 1.5
I downloaded this package and gave it a try.
After a couple of emails to Tim and a quick software update I was up and running and the package integrates beautifully with both Joomla 1.5.6 and Community Builder
What more can you ask for.
Had problems running it for registered users only but a couple of emails with Tim and I soon had it up and running. Support was without a doubt best I have had for a long time and the product does what it says.
This is realy a great free chat extension.
No problems at all with installation in Joomla! 1.5.3.
Works perfect and very easy to edit backend!
Many thanks for this excellent module. I like it very much!

I had a bit of trouble installing, so e-mailed the author, and immediately he replied. We exchanged e-mails, and next thing I know, I have four newer versions within a day!

It works great now! Had some issues with templates, but not more than any other components.

Thank You!!!
