NOTE: There are known issues between jPFChat and ALL joomla templates that use MooTools (if the mootools.js library is loaded in the template, there will be problems). There are several potential fixes outlined on our site. jPFChat uses the Prototype Javascript library, which CANNOT co-exist with MooTools in the browser.
- This extension requires registration to download.
We are VERY clear, both on our website and on these listing details, that jPFChat will NOT work if MooTools is loaded on the same page. This is NOT something we can do much about. It is a javascript library conflict that would require a complete rewrite of the phpfreechat script. Please READ the articles and not post negatively about something we have so freely and openly commented about.
window opened. Get the jpfChat logo...says it's loading the chat window.
never loads. Not with Firefox, Chrome, or IE.

This is a perfect component and it works fine on my J1.5.7 site! Just configure the link to the Chat as a new window without navigation - as described on the developers site - and you don't have problems with mootools issues.
I was able to install and use this JPFchat in minutes.
Works with Joomla registered users that will appear in the chat room as their registered name; and also guest users will be logged on at guestxxx or something similar.
Very nice extension and works with my old 1.0 Joomla
The only thing I had some problems with was the fact, that the url to chat-script named in the chat parameters has to be the same as the url you call joomla from. This can cause problems if you have a site with several different urls.
Nevertheless the best chat module I have tested so far. Thanks for that.

works like a charm love its modules how its shows username or name on main page! ;)
keeep up the awesome work!
But it does have some downside. 1 which I have encounted is it won't load up in IE.
The developer of jPFChat has already find the solutions to it which written on it's website. Personaly, I found the solution 2-a works for me, which require the component to be opened in a new window.
I am sure other solutions works fine, which I will give them a try later.
As the extension isn't commercial and user support has also been brilliant I shall hereby gratulate jPFChat for have been a truely brilliant extention.
This turned out to be a MooTools issue and solution was so simple...I changed the menu link to open jPF chat in a new window without navigation and solved the issue in less than a minute. This option actually works much better as users can still navigate throughout our site and discuss items, etc.
The support for this product alone is worth having it on your site. KUDOS Tim... Keep up the good work.
Thank you very much, JPFChat, I recommend it for everybody!
The documentation is great and within minutes i fixed IE issue.
Hat's off to the developer and I will do anything for him.
But I do wish to highlight few points, please do accept my apology.
1. TO MAKE it work in IE8, i set the properties to open in new window with browser buttons.
Than in firefox, the new window covers all your screen, I do wish to see if we can set new window properties i.e., height and width of the new window.
2. The user name appears before the text filed with small icons, this getting the cloud of users before the text/message field and it's infact covering up part of the text field, which makes it difficult to see when you try to type the message.
Please once again accept my apology for my views.
Just a few little aesthetic issues regarding the layout, otherwise it's a cracker and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting a simple live chat facility.
The jPFChat site says to open it up in a new browser without navigation. That works perfectly.
Then, in the index.php file, I changed "Guest".rand(1,1000); // setup the intitial nickname Joomla username is ".$my->username." to $params["nick"] = _getUser(); and now the registered users' names appear.
This is a great component addition. Thanks to Tim for the support.

I downloaded this package and gave it a try.
After a couple of emails to Tim and a quick software update I was up and running and the package integrates beautifully with both Joomla 1.5.6 and Community Builder
What more can you ask for.
