XStandard
A WYSIWYG editor for Joomla 1.0.x based on the XStandard browser plugin.

XStandard is a standards-compliant plug-in WYSIWYG editor for browser-based content management systems. The editor generates clean XHTML Strict or 1.1, uses CSS for formatting, and ensures the clean separation of content from presentation. Markup generated by XStandard meets the most demanding accessibility requirements. XStandard Lite is free for commercial use and installs on Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000 or XP.

You have to manually install the browser plugin on the computer you use for editing before you can use this editor. Instructions can be found in the readme.txt in the zip-file.

Not worth the time! by rst, June 19, 2007

The conceptual idea behind it is good. What joomla lacks is an "offline" text editing and I hoped this program could help. (actually consist of two part: 1 component and on browser plugin) However functionality is very limited, text editing is not convenient. Image via path entry...
ergo: not usable and waste of time - maybe for some special purpose - sorry guys!

Not much here... by kismert, December 6, 2006

Claims to be GNU GPL, but only the Plug-in is. The actual editor is closed-source, but free.

Installation is not hard, but the product is split into two parts. You have to dig up the readme file to find out where to get the editor. Since a third of the reviewers did not even succeed in doing that, you can't say this is a good approach.

Now to the editor. Unfortunately, the problems dominate:
* Strips out valid header and paragraph tags from existing content.
* Doesn't have a clue about how to render multi-column layout.
* For whatever reason, doesn't access your template, so styles presented don't match styles in your style sheet.
* Insists on littering your HTML with an obnoxious 'Generated by' comment.
* Can't even specify common tags, like h1, p, etc.

One plus:
* The Screen Reader Preview is a nice option

Conclusion:
If this commercial company is hoping to generate sales for their 'Pro' product with this free offering, they will be disappointed. It is too few features, and screws with your markup too much, to compete with the better completely free offerings here.

Great but not OpenSource by Assoluto, May 23, 2006

I'was looking for a good and simple Editor. Tried JCE but I've noticed that the output isn't well formed(XHTML). XStandard is good but it leaves some lines about it. It's not what could be a free extension for Joomla. I tried Joomla FCK too but it had the same problem. I also tried the other Free Editors but I've not find what I was looking for.

I think I'll use JCE where it was necessary hand making the correct xHtml.

I like it by steve1084, April 4, 2006

I had no problems installing, plugin for firefox installed easily. A little lacking in features for the lite version but I have been going over my website and finding all the pages with incorrect xhtml and correcting them so I think its great. Ill look at the full featured version but otherwise it works a treat.

This is a mambot shell for XStandard by WebJIVE, April 3, 2006
Once I installed the mambot (thinking it was the editor), I quickly found that this is merely a wrapper for the XStandard editor. Also, if your a Mac user, I can find no way to download the lite version nor instructions to do so. Next.

So far, so good by Geas, April 3, 2006
Joomla 1.0.8 on a IIS. Installed OK. FireFox 1.5 needed 2 plugins one for the editor, and something from MS msxml..something. Is not the usual WYSIWYG editor, so I have to get use to this new editor. I miss the Image features.

error by jeen, April 3, 2006
hmm, installs fine, but there's a red cross where the editor window should appear (Joomla 1.0.8 install).

Remember to read the readme.txt by jebo, April 3, 2006
You have to manually install the browser plugin on the computer you use for editing before you can use this editor. That may be a disadvantage for some, but it gives you a very reliable editor that outputs 100% clean XHTML.

Intallation failed in Firefox by Dirk C., April 3, 2006
The automated installation failed in Firefox. After installing the free light version manually I had only a very few options. Almost no features in the free version available.

Didn't work by Sylvaticus, April 3, 2006
It gives an emty editorwindow. Installed on Joomla 1.08, with no other editors published.
