# Better database config upgrade handling, NO need to write to file!
# Further integrate and simplified in MosComBot and MosCom
# MosCom, MosComBot and MosComLatestX are compatible with Mambo 4.5.2+ and Joomla 1.0+ including 1.5RC3 (w/ legacy mode)

(Note: Please make sure to download the latest MosComBot 1.1+, MosComLatestX 1.1+ to work with MosCom 1.1+)

Notes for MosComBot:
* MosComBot is now has comment form without the need to edit the template.
* Please make sure emailcloak is listed before MosComBot to avoid scramble the email in the comment form.

* A companion mambot call MosComBot to show comment link on frontpage

No Dice by CET, March 20, 2008

I won't give a rating, because maybe I'm just missing something obvious, but suffice it to say that I am not a newbie to Joomla.

I installed this component, went to set it up, and couldn't figure out how to activate it. It looked like the author doesn't speak english as a first language, because the directions didn't make much sense. After 30 minutes of testing, reading, headscratching, etc., I uninstalled this component.

Owner's reply:
You activate in two ways:

1. Via the post install instruction by editing your template

2. Install MosComBot and enable the mambot

If you are willing to give it another try and post any question you have at my support site: http://support.ongetc.com in my forum and I will be happy to answer any question you might have.

Thanks

Excellent service! by Thabar, February 14, 2008
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
In search of a simple comment system, i found this splendid extension. Easy to install with nice features: e.g. check post before sending, admin confirmation and control of incoming posts, automail when new post, ...

But what a service! I went on the dev-forum for a minor lay-out detail and the developper gave me excellent, fast feedback with a new updated version. Very impressive... and if i look on the forum, i wasn't the first one!

Are you looking for a simple comment system and great support, than you want this extension!

Owner's reply:
Thabar,

I am glad that you find MosCom serve your need and thanks for your kind words.

i installed it, but it messed up my site

in the back end, when i wanna go to the gonfiguration page, i get this:

Direct Access to this location is not allowed.
Warning: mysql_real_escape_string(): 48 is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /home/admin17/public_html/joomla/libraries/joomla/database/database/mysql.php on line 169

[editor: snipped more]

and it happens on the main page of the site.

Owner's reply:

Easy & Straight Forward by lloyde, May 7, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
MosCom is a easy but effective comments system.
Install was easy, quick change to index.php and template.ccs and it was working.

Sometimes people make something simple - clumsy and over complicated, this is just perfect.

Heck I even made a donation.

Lloyd

Owner's reply:
Lloyd,

Thanks for your nice review!

Please be sure to check out the latest version that I just release today.

Thanks

What the,,, by akiratheoni, February 9, 2007

The only Pro about this: its simplistic look. I've been looking for a comments component that looks really simple. But the rest of this component is the most confusing and messy thing I've seen. The ONLY thing that's worked so far is a Show (0): Add Comment link but when you hit add comment, it doesn't do anything!

I modified the template code just like the post installer said to do. Most people that release a module have a README.TXT file yet this one was completely devoid of it. The creator's site is a mess to look through, too. It's full of links that are meaningless to everyone and it's like looking for a needle in a haystack.

This is a pain in the... to work. It doesn't even work for me. I'm sorry about the low rating, but at least provide a DECENT FAQ for how to work the stupid errors in this module.

Owner's reply:
What error?

What change would you suggest so that you can find what you need?

My site is for me to keep track of my research on CMS and provide some support for people that use my add-ons.

Please specific and provide some constructive suggestion please.

dissapointed by baijianpeng, January 11, 2007

I installed the MosCom 0.82s version today on my local server to test it. It astonished me that it won't use the english language as default if it can't find a language file in my language according to the glbal setting of site configuration. Of course it doesn't contain a Chinese language file. So I see untranslated strings with full screen of underline dash since it did not use a default languge. This is a stupid design, I think.

Owner's reply:
The language file is base on the gloable $mosConfig_lang and is loaded when this file exist otherwise it should default to english.php. There is not a tranlation for Chinese so if you are using Chinese please consider do the translation for Chinese language and I will give you the credit for the translation file.

Absolutely terrible by malinusmaximus, January 7, 2007

Owner's reply:

Just say buggie does not help!

Modifications were needed by Flying, December 14, 2006
2 of 2 people find this review helpful:
After trying AkoComment and not getting it to work properly, I decided to give MosCom a spin. Installing went fluently, although the instructions page could've been somewhat more straight-forward.

After installing, I started testing the entire system. The layout of how the comments were shown wasn't exactly brilliant. It was somewhat hard to see who posted what. Mainly because there was nothing to seperate the comments and because the "posted by" text was below the comment itself.

After some searching I found where the output code was and edited it manually, effectively putting the "posted by" text above the comment itself, and putting every comment in a table with a backgroundcolor different to the sites backgroundcolor. It actually looks pretty neat now!

I also miss the option to completely remove the e-mail and homepage field from the comment form. Since the comments are only to be posted by registered users and that the big majority just does not have a homepage.

Owner's reply:
With the latest version you can customize the MosCom using css code.

I might consider adding a feature to let you turn off the email and homepage in the config setting.

Thanks

nice and simple by xception, November 16, 2006

Simple, plain not over bearing combined with the bot - works as advertised. doesnt come with a pretty look or anything like that but if you're not afer anything like that just plain and simple this works perfect :)

Owner's reply:
My goal with this component is to keep it simple and should be fit in well with your site and with the use of CSS you can tailor to fit your need.

Thanks

Works well by ron.severdia, September 16, 2006
2 of 2 people find this review helpful:
The latest version now uses CSS styles for the comments & comment form (any customization would get deleted with each upgrade before) so it works much better.

The developer seems pretty receptive to feature requests.

Owner's reply:
Severdia, thanks so much for your contribution on many css code to improve this component and I am really appreciated!

Annoying e-mail bug by winuser, August 18, 2006
0 of 2 people find this review helpful:
This bug is too obvious to have been missed, even with casual testing. Regardless of the "Email Required" setting in the configuration panel, the user is ALWAYS presented with an email field that clearly states, "required."

There should be NO email field visible to the user if the Joomla/Mambo administrator has simplified the commenting system (i.e., name > comment > finished!)

The CCS option is a plus, though I probably won't get around to using it. This component cannot rate higher until the author has tested and fixed all operations.

Owner's reply:
Bug do exist in software!

This bug has been fixed in the later version.

It would be helpful if you could report any bug at my site so I can be aware of this sooner.

Thanks

Easy to use. by acalderon, March 16, 2006
2 of 2 people find this review helpful:
It is easy to use. It requires a change to the template or templates that you use to be able to use the component. It has the basic features needed for reviewing articles.

Owner's reply:
The latest version will let you turn on the comment form in MosComBot without needing to edit the template.
