I love ChronoComments! Easy to customize, and I like the way the threading appears.

This is impressive. It is very simple to get up and running, and is very clean. This is the only comment component I could find that could do all of the following:

1) Limit comment viewing to members only

2) Select comment application at article granularity

3) Eliminate all references to "comments" from the category summary

4) Provide a very simple & clean interface for commenting

5) integrate with CB

6) Actually work, and as 1.5 native.

The only small knock I have is that I would have preferred a parameters menu option in the component menu (I didn't see the parameters icon immediately), but that's very minor.

finally a simple joomla commenting component that had me up and running comments in 5 minutes.. with no styling needed or tricky configs or hacks... brilliant! thanks a million! if you need comments... look no further... one other HUGE plus.. sh404sef integration! beautiful urls too.

Simple to install and manage.
In fact everything was so simple and smooth that I was afraid I had done something wrong! But everything's good so far.

Blend in with my templates very well without me having to change any codes.

Too bad I'm in no condition to be able to afford the fee to remove the link, else I would've.

Clean, easy to install, free, and outstanding support. I had only one request that the control panel didn't allowed to manage and the developer solved my problem in no time.

It's simple but more then enough features for a comment system. It's clean, but you can tweak the template more if you like. The support is also great.

I would have liked the gnu licence more but I understand he's gotta eat too in these times of crisis ;) But it's the only reason why i'm not giving the 5 stars award. But it is a more then excellent component.

Another killer extension from Chronoengine.. I first tried out their ChronoForms extension to build a few forms... after having tried RSforms Pro and a couple others, ChronoForms was a real treat.

The same goes for ChronoComments. I, like a lot of you, first opted for the JomComment syndrome... but, once you try this extension.. I think your loyalties will change. Now, don't get me wrong.. this is NOT just like JomComments,.. if you are looking for all the extra things that JomComment does, then by all means go for it.

But, it you are looking for a lightweight, clean and fast commenting system that has a great layout and killer support. This is it. Period. It's easy to setup, has ability to moderate comments, etc. etc. etc.

And, like I said, the support was outstanding.

I just tested new edition and i must say it is a perfect comment system for joomla, easy to use, how with utf8 support smooth and slick! Also now it has upgrade from old to new version, comment backup, and many more options!

The reason I am giving an excellent is:

Although there needs to be more documentation for configuration, the support is outstanding and fast! You will need to register but that is no biggie.

Very easy install, no hoops or hassles. This was the best install of any comments I tried for version 1.5, the rest need to take a clue from ChronoComments.

It still has some bugs but next release will be the great one !!!

This is a good simple module for comments, I like its Simplicity, easy to install, easy to use and easy to config, But there is one Big Simple Problem, the Ability of page navigation or shall we say 'pagination'.

This is probably the best free comment extension available for J!1.5. It has a nice layout and doesn't look chunky like others I have tried. I only find two things wrong with it: 1)It has problems in IE. 2)You can't apply custom avatars unless you have CB. Other than that, it's a great component!

I think it's the best non-commercial comment extension.

I like :
- simplicity
- design (hightly css customizable... take a look in the forum)
- community builder integration
- fast support

Still some small improvements and it will be perfect.

This is the best and easiest commenting system available for joomla, all of the necessity's, without a lot of baggage.
Also the support for this extension is second to none.

After testing ChronoComments for a couple days I have decided to use it for my new Joomla web site. As a matter of fact, I just purchased a license for it (even though I was able to use all the features without doing so, and this is the first license I've purchased for a Joomla extension so far). I did try a few other comment extensions, but they didn't meet my needs.

So, what do I like about this one?

* My first impressions: Comments added on the fly (via AJAX). I also appreciated its clean appearance and simplicity.

* Comments are threaded. And this makes it so much easier to follow when someone (especially myself, as the site owner) responds to a particular comment.

* I can set permissions for guest posting separately from other groups. This is important to me on my site.

* I was able to set it up on my site for free ... and even keep it for free if I wanted to.

* Installation was a breeze! I just installed it through the Control Panel, enabled the plugin, and then set the parameters in the Comments Manager (Components > ChronoComments)

* I've already received excellent support from Max on the forums at chronoengine.com (and that was before I purchased it)

* The developer just updated ChronoComments with more features, including a simple CAPTCHA, BBCode textbox, frontend admin features, and a new module to display the latest comments.

* It is continually being improved

It seems to me implementing this approach will soon lead to a management nightmare. There appears to be no really good provisions for preventing spam. There is no provision for the use of a captcha tool, for example.

This means there are only two ways of preventing spam from nasty commenters. One is to require each potential commenter to become a registered member of your site. This means you have to either approve each commenter individually or allow a blanket automatic approval (which opens you for spam ads). In either case you soon fill up your "membership" lists with scads of commenters you may never hear from more than once.

The second approach provided is to require a potential commenter to respond to an e-mail verification before their comment is approved. As a potential commenter, why would I bother? Thanks but no thanks for burdening me with more e-mail to manage. I'm ok with posting a message, leaving my real name and contact e-mail address (as long as both are protected), typing in the letters of a well-designed captcha, and moving on with my life. But don't tell me I have to look for and respond to more unwanted e-mail as a further point before you might accept my possibly pithy comment. What if I just wanted to say, "Hey, great job. I agree!"?

In its current form this is a utility whose set up and configuration you have to poke around and guess at. No instructions or examples are provided. People should not be allowed to post new utilities here without also posting good instructions and a few examples. Telling people to refer all questions to a forum (which usually requires registration and approval at yet another site whose utility you may never end up using before you can even post your question) is not acceptable customer service.

I've exchanged several emails with the developer and he is very passionate about ChronoComments, very receptive to suggestions for improvement and I really like what I've seen so far at such an early stage of development!

Amazing quality component from chronoengine.com Pros, easy to set up & has some great options to control which sections, categories or individual articles will display comments. Was very easy to customize the design to match my site perfectly. Had it all set up and looking good in about 30 minutes. I cannot think of any cons as it does exactly what it says it does. Thanks
