JoomlaStart is a tool that will help you install/upgrade Joomla software much faster just by uploading one file on your server and running it! V1.2 release changes: - added a fix for permissions problems, so you may try to install Joomla by simulating a ftp upload process - you can install now Joomla from your local server, this in case your provider does't allow to use fopen() function remotelly to get the package - for the ftp mode we added an automatic permission changer for the required directories! If you encountered any problems in using this tool please use our forums at http://www.joomlaplug.com/Forum/ ! We will try to help you the best we can!

Worked great, very fast and simple. A little niggling was required and help was very quick from joomlaplug site. With fantastic customer service like that, I'll probably eventually spend the 50$us for the backup/cloner.

Very useful tool - Must have by tan@ukbuyer.net, November 5, 2006

I found this tool useful and easy to use, after initial config problems I occured whilst upgrading 1.0.10 to 1.0.11. Posted items on forum www.joomlaplug.com and instantenous responses from Ovidiu posted support tickets and I was on the new release. I have installed the component feature and will be using it for future release. Very useful help and was also assisted on a non related upgrade problem too. Will definitely be recommending to other Joomla users. Can't do without.

Joomla Start - Just what I needed - 5-Stars by aceguy, October 8, 2006

Here's a really fast and easy way to get all those 'Joomla' install folders/files up into your webspace really quickly!
What had taken 45 minutes, (dropped ftp connection etc.) was achieved in lesss than 5 minutes from start to finish.
I had a small problem, (my mistake) with the setup and JoomlaPlug support, (thanks 'Ovidiu') to the resque. I received instant assistance via the ticketing system on a Sunday afternoon. Excellent service in anyone's book.
Give it a try - that's my advice.
5-Stars from me so far.

Make this part of 1.5 by Braiswick, August 24, 2006

This component should become part of the standard Joomla! download package, and that's something that should be considered for 1.5. For a beginner, like me, the hardest part of Joomla! is the installation. SourceForge is intimidating, as I'm never sure what I'm downloading. Then opening over 1500 files and uploading those to a remote server is a daunting task in ftp.
With JoomlaStart those problems are removed, install takes about 6 minutes. The desktop version now sits waiting for me to install a new package, and it ensures that I get the latest package, and I load ALL the right files.
I found a few small difficulties but JoomlaPlug were there, willing to help, and hopefully my problems will identify any bugs in the system, and will be rectified.
Another refinement would be a form to create a configuration.php that meets the user requirements - because that's another hurdle that I fell over, as was the removal of the Installation folder (and does that also mean the install.php file?).
Well done JoomlaPlug - and many thanks

What an incredible tool. Saved an hour or so on the uploading. No having to check the connection, truly seamless, trouble free. Ran straight into the installation.
Can't recommend strongly enough.
A big thank you to the developer.

Exceptionally useful tool by visualweb, May 15, 2006

Can't say I've found another tool or utility so desperately needed. If you've battled with trying to update (Out of Date cPanel Joomla! installs), hassled with ftp "time-outs" or even just wished there was a more effecient way to get a complete Joomla! package to a remote server... Well.. JoomlaStart is the Schizznit, fo shizzle...
One caveat though... Make -sure- you specify your PUBLIC root ftp address (e.g. public_html or htdocs) otherwise you might wind up with the whole kit-n-kaboodle uploaded in an inopportune place.. Even so, It took me less time to -move- the orphans than it would have to ftp them..
Love it, thanks, thanks, thanks...
p.s. If you get a bit of free time, consider making a remote-install app for us NON-Windows folks, `nix or (even better, OS-X) would globally ROCK!

I tried and impressed. From my experience, there was a very noticeable speed difference between downloading a whole package manually and using JoomlaStart. It was really fast, about 2 to 3 minutes to have a whole package to be downloaded using JoomlaStart compared to 2 hours by manual one by one uploading.

Really slick by Texennessarkansotan, April 20, 2006

Starting from a bare directory with only the Joomla.Start.php and ver.txt files, I had a new latest-release JOOMLA! installation in only 1 minute, 12 seconds. Nice!
(Could have been even faster, except that I'm a slow reader.)
Now, if only JOOMLA! would implement unlimited category/taxonomy levels, then I'd be able to use this great gadget a LOT more often!

Owner and Group fix by rovisoft, April 19, 2006
|
Hi there! The owner and group problem are fixed in the new version by adding the ftp mode!
So when installing the software you may choose between direct mode and ftp mode install!
The direct mode will cause the permission problem on some servers, but the ftp mode runs ok because the script simulates the install by using the ftp functions, keeping the owner and group permissions!

Hm.. I don't know how it's with the latest release, but after using the 1.0 I got problems with the owner and group permissions since the installer was setting these to httpd - and not my user. So now I maybe need the host to delete all.. :(

Weldone! Two improvements needed! by parasoft, April 15, 2006

It ran fine on one of my websites. Using server bandwidth it instantly downloaded and unzipped the whole bundle of files. Though:
1). Its installation did not contain ver.txt which was required for its operation. Either it should be included or it should be auto-downloaded
2).I could not install it on GoDaddy.Com. May be I have upgraded my hosting and "PHP Exec" function is not available here.
Anyway it is a good time-saver!

Apart from having to change permissions to be able to install it, it went smoothly with no hiccups.

Excellent product. Doesn't work with Safari though. Use FF or IE.
