If the developer can add an automatic email function to advise the webmaster that is necessary to upgrade, this tool would be more useful. However, you have to install and try fantastic module!

I have a few sites and doing the upgrades (being a newbie still) was a little daunting.
I didn't want to lose any of the work I put into these sites but I wanted to stay current.
So I tested this on a site (after backing it up) and it worked perfectly.
I was on 1.5.6 and upgraded to 1.5.8 in less than 5 seconds.
The option to use just the Patch file or the Full install is excellent as well.
This is my first review and I had to give them 2 thumbs up for making this stupid proof. Thanks.

We had had trouble updating from 1.5.7 to 1.5.8
Updating was a longish job and this time we could get sites to update.

This component did it so easily it was awesome. One click and the patch was there in a few seconds. I was amazed.

I do not comment too often on extension but this is the total business.

By far, this is the best newer component out there, and i love how often it is updated to improve its features.

I have attempted to contact the developer to make some suggestions, but the 'contact' link on their site isn't working. Therefore, I will make them here. These suggestions will still be beneficial to the review, as they will let the reader also know what few things *this* reviewer finds lacking, which is why I give 4-stars instead of 5 (but I assure you, it is really close to 5-stars for me).

1) The Icon added to the Quick Icons in the Admin Control Panel will disappear if you update from the complete install file. This is because the component hacks the Quick Icons module, adding its own icon. A better solution would be to make this a separate module consisting of just the one icon, that is assigned to the Icons position. Another component out there (easy search) uses this method, and I love it.

I had a couple of other suggestions, but hadn't tried out the latest version (1.4.0) of this component. I tested it out, and discovered that some of the other features I wanted are now in there. The most important of these was the ability to upgrade automatically from the upgrade version instead of just the full version. This is now part of the component, which makes me very happy. The other big suggestion I had was that the process have some sort of a progress indicator. It is not the way I imagined, but there is at least something there now that will let you know what files were unpacked and when it is finished, which is an improvement over the last version.

In all, this component rocks, and continues to improve with every version released. The only thing now that could make it perfect for me would be to remove the hack to the Quick Icons module, and to instead include a separate module of a single icon assigned to the same position.

This should absolutely be part of Joomla's Core!

Wow, I've just updated one site from 1.5.1 to 1.5.8 and another from 1.5.6 to 1.5.8 and the best part is it took about 2 minute altogether for both sites!!! HATS OFF to the Devs.

This is hands down the best extension for Joomla! I've updated a couple of sites so far without fail from different versions of 1.5. Excellent work as it truly is easy as one click! Highly recommended!

Ok, that might be harsh, but let's just say that now that you know about this if you don't install it, you must either have a lot of time to waste or not believe it is so simple and useful. There is no easier extension to use. There is nothing to configure, it installs in 2 seconds and adds a button to your Joomla! control panel to update to the newest version of Joomla! Literally a two click update, that's it.

What can I say, we all know how important keeping your site to the latest version of Joomla. With many sites this can be quite a task.
The last update I did manualy to Joomla was a good couple of hours work.
With this component it was done in a matter of seconds.

I haven't used the phrase "freaking awesome" since the 1990's, but I dusted it off and am using it here because I am totally impressed with this extension.

I updated from Joomla 1.5.7 to Joomla 1.5.8 in I think less than 5 seconds using Joomla Magic Updater. Even better, whenever there is an official update you see a flashing notification in your admin panel.

Freaking awesome! This component is BAD (BTW, BAD means "Good" in 2008)
