Jombackup, for performing daily mysql backups and emailing them to the address of your choice.

The default settings should be enough to get you up and running, but there are plenty of configuration options available to you, including modifying the text of the email sent to you, changing the default email address and the actual type of mysql data backed up. Literally you should be able to fire and forget.
This mambot is designed to allow those people who do not have access to, or are unwilling to use, Cron, to enable daily backups of their Joomla mysql data. It runs every time Joomla is run. Most of the time, all it will do is check for the existance of a checkfile with today's date. If the file exists it will not do anything else, however if the file doesn't exist (IE the local server's time has passed the midnight hour and this is the first time today the site has been visited) then the plugin will perform a backup of the system's mysql data and email it to either the system default email address, or another that you may have specified in the config.

Very important: Pay attention to the Notes regarding the Testing option. I kid you not when I say that you could bring a server down if you abuse this.
Installation: Administrator->Installers->Mambots. Upload and install the plugin, make sure you visit Mambots->site mambots and click on the link to JomBackup system plugin to edit & publish it.
How long does it take to perform a backup?
The answer as always, is "How long is a piece of string?"
I can only tell you how long it takes to perform a backup on jomres.net. The backup file, uncompressed is appx 33mb, compressed it's about 2mb. It takes jomres.net roughly 20 seconds to perform the backup and email it away.
Please note that this script needs write access to the media directory by default. If you are using safe-mode then you may find that you receive empty emails or that backups are simply not happening.

If your Jombackup stops working by Missionary Man, August 9, 2008
This mambot is excellent, however mine stopped working unexpectedly. It turns out it was NOTHING to do with Jombackup, but rather my hosting service making server changes.

If your Jombackup stops, check to see if your SESSION directory is unwritable.

Go to back-end administrator, select SYSTEM from top menu, then SYSTEM INFO, then PERMISSIONS.

If the bottom directory, called SESSION is unwritable, that is your problem!

My Jombackup stopped working in April, and it's taken until just now to get it fixed. I had my hosting service set the SESSION directory to /TMP and make it writable.

Go to your /media folder and delete all the old jombackup backup files, then turn the mambot back on. It should begin working as before! Mine did.

Woo hoo! Jombackup is back up! Ha ha ha

Use this bot! by jon.m, February 21, 2008

This tool will give you peace of mind about your MySQL databases.

The output is in the form of a script that will reconstruct your database tables and repopulate the data. Configuration is trivial -- just set up an email address.

I use this on ALL my sites, and I highly recommend it.

I can't live without it! by mckinnon777, February 20, 2008

I have numerous sites running this bot. It's one of the first I install and is part of my backup strategy.

Keep up the good work!

Installed on every site... by one7media, February 7, 2008

This has to be the simplest, but most useful bot I've installed. A database backup "at my doorstep" every morning. That's just flat out awesome.

Highly recommended. Install every time.

This is just the perfect solution for a busy webmaster. I manage nearly a dozen sites and rarely remember to keep the backups current ... thank you so much for such a simple and elegant solution!

Good job, not working UTF-8 by ilan5555, December 23, 2007

Good software for users who need a simple yet powerful Mysql backup system.
The main problem is that it can't backup UTF-8 databases and it's almost impossible to find a solution for this problem.
(I haven't till now).

I installed this bot and when my site crashed it saved tons of time in the restoration. I highly recommend installing this on every site you maintain.

bad customer support by andrewlaird, September 25, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
I downloaded and installed Jombackup and it does send an email daily! However, upon re-installing to set up a copy site it appears to change the user-name and password so I am unable to login to the admin panel. I sent numerous emails to Jombres, .... bouncing back and after signing up for membership to their site and re-sending my problem/request get a response to join a survey only! My review: a complete waist of time with NO decent support. Look for another program!

Fantastic! by dirtypants, September 5, 2007
I'm not sure this could be anymore clear. You get what is advertised, and it is a lifesaver. I know a *little* about this stuff, and I was up and running in less than 10 minutes. It had e-mailed me my backup (not that I know much about what to do with it) within 30.

Really top notch. Thank you!

Simple, easy and functional. That's it! The previous reviewers have done this little bot justice.

I've been the worlds worst with my backups, not doing them as scheduled. This takes the headache away and I use this in conjunction with Jpack backup. Recommended.

The tool i need !!! by frederic.barre, August 3, 2007
This tool is what i was looking for, a dayly sql backup ... really great and simple tool ^_^

Very good, should be included in joomla 1.5 by neoforts, July 5, 2007
This has to be one of the top things i have ever downloaded for joomla.

I installed it on my site and works perfect on joomla version 1.0.12.

I am running smf forums with joomla, those are also backed up !! great job

A must-have mambot! by 092098jvm, May 24, 2007
What a great way to add a little extra safety net to your site! The only additional feature I would like to see is the ability to set the time of the backup.
