Install quite easily a bridge for Phpbb. Tested with Joomla 1.0.15 and Phpbb 2.0.23. You can visually integrate the forum inside Joomla's template (but not necessary) ||

* Notice about Joomla 1.0.13 and later: Despites the new "salted passwords" introduced by Joomla 1.0.13 , the bridge works fine. However, if you plan to unbridge, it won't be as easy as before. Users added to phpbb after bridging (and only these ones) , will end up with "salted paswords" stored in phpbb's "user table"...

* Last change: little PM notification box bug fixed.

* Notice about demo: the "demo" link I provide is from a "genuine website" (i.e not here just for testing purpose).

Great Bridge by gcoulter, June 22, 2008
Excellent, highly recommend. Great instructions, I didn't get it to work first time but FAQ's soon sorted out what I missed.

I've used a few extensions but was so happy with this one I thought I'd take the time to write my first review.

Urbnmedia.com loves it! by urbnmedia.com, March 19, 2008
Installation could have been just a LITTLE easier but man, it's a system integration and it works!!! I was nervous the whole time (no sleep for a couple of days) but the thing actually works. Bro, I registered here JUST to say thank you, publicly. I'm new to Joomla but getting better. I just reverted to J 1.0.15 and did a slight upgrade to phpBB 2.0.23 (I think) and your system fit precisely. I HATE Joomla 1.5. I don't think it's mature enough to be public, yet. What do I know... Anyway, thank you for letting me get back to J 1.0.X and still get this project done. Wow... You are a LIFE SAVER.

Great Bridge, works wonderfully by ScrapbookSupplies, February 26, 2008
Mehdi's bridge works seamlessly with our phpBB. Happy to have found it, and look forward to more extensions from him!

Praveen Kumar C

Many thanks by peter.t.wishart, October 30, 2007
works great, easy install, no problems so far

Some issues by Jaril, August 23, 2007
It seemed to work okay until I tried to log into the forum. It redirected me to the joomla login and I logged in fine - until I tried to go back to the forum. I was still logged out.

I got it to work on the localhost on my computer, but it didn't work on the live site. Dunno.

It works. Woo! by pirateninja, August 8, 2007
I like this component because it works, and it works well. Using Mehdi's code I have seamlessly integrated my phpBB forum into my Joomla site. I took off one star because there is a little legwork involved in installing this component, and since I don't have sysadmin privs I had to hack around to install stuff. Arg. Other than that, I like. Much

Great work! by inaktiv, June 20, 2007

It was a great job on the bridge mate.

I'm pretty new to joomla, but I found your walkthrough to be pretty well.

Unfortunately. there is one minor problem with it.

There is an issue with the forum login. The login form for the Joomla site has to be put onto the forum page so that you can login properly to the forum. as for some reason it won't stay logged in the entire time.

Recipe for Success by webcat01, April 23, 2007

I'm using this bridge now and it works great with a community of over 100 regular users. I am new to Joomla and PHPBB (and open source for that matter), but I have some light amounts of web programming experience and patience to read step by step instructions. I really only needed the latter to successfully use this tool. Any of the negative posts regarding this bridge are probably from people who didn't have the patience to read the directions. Here's what I would advise to anyone who wants to use this:

Upgrade PHPBB to the latest version and ensure it's operational before installing the bridge. This way you can use the batch file installers that Mhedi provides instead of doing manual chnages to files. It also gets you current on PHPBB, which is good because I've heard it has security flaws that can be compromised.

Then just read the instructions carefully and I'm sure you will be as happy as I am

Its great by fitzrik, February 22, 2007

Its true that its not just a simple install module and it all works, but once you follow the instructions it seems to all work and work very well.

If there are any problems, Mehdi(who is not charging remember) is helpful and responsive.

Thanks Mehdi

Not so easy by ron.severdia, January 9, 2007

Works OK, but not very easy to set up and a bit buggy. Would be ideal if the bridge worked in both directions rather than this "hack," but what do you expect for free...

Horrible Component, bear of an install, I'm very disappointed by soldstatic, January 8, 2007

I used mehdi's cpg bridge for a while, not bad, but this one just aint doin it for me.

I'm farily new to Joomla, but I've been able to do tons of stuff with it. I run a decent sized community of about 700 consistent users for a music website, that has generally been just the phpbb. I got excited when I designed a front end presentation using RSS feeds from the modded forum, but I got extremely excited when I found Joomla. So I decided to re-do the site using Joomla as a backend and using the phpbb as a feature, I was excited by all the possibilities with gigcal and gallery2 bridge which I had already used on another site.

All that remained in switching was installing a component to integrate the phpBB forum. Well aparently that miracle component doesn't exist like it does for gallery2 from menalto. Mehdi, I'm sorry but this integration just doesn't measure up. It is a pain to install, I don't know what these other people were talkin about in their reviews. I know some stuff about this whole web developement, but the steps to install this bridge just take way too long as far as I'm concerned. There are too many steps, too little description on how to do it, and way too suseptible to user error in installation. This user error cause me to completely break my site, and maybe I'm just dumb but it took me about 2 hours to simply go BACK to the way it was before.

I'm a big believer in open source, and I commend you Mehdi for your work and contribution. I just wish that there were a more uniform, simple, and straight-forward installation method, like the gallery2 integration component and relative modules.

Very good, keep it up by bluecubbies4me, January 2, 2007

This is a very important bridge as it pairs the best open-source CMS with the best open-source forum! The bridge is very good, hope the author will continue to update the bridge beyond phpbb 3 and joomla 1.5!

Almost perfect. by ffff0000, November 24, 2006

Great bridge. It works perfect....although I think the lack of redirection after login is a big problem.

Nice component by owndao, November 24, 2006

I had an existing phpBB database from a non-Joomla installation and I wanted to keep all of my users and entries. This bridge has allowed me to do this with ease. The only difficulty I had was making sure that all of my domain references matched justawakening.com instead of www.justawakening.com. After that and forcing all users to use the one modified template I was back up and running. Very nice. The only pain is that I wanted to give users the ability to use any of the phpbb templates. Also, since so many files have been modified or replaced upgrading either phpbb or Joomla looks like it may be a problem.
