Docman ver 1.4.0 rc3 by pr1952, March 28, 2008

The latest version fixed the bugs that I had mainly, the document alignment.

I run a membership site and docman 1.4.0 rc3 is exactly what I needed.

Easy to use, perfect installation, I upgraded from the previous version and I was up and running in just a few minutes and...the alignment was perfect.

Me too I'd like the rss feature added.
Thanks, great component

Great component by muskiediver, March 24, 2008

We have more than 750 documents. Most of them PDF’s , some video. I have been using this program for 3 years.

We went with Joomla (vs Mambo) because of this component. This alone should let you know why we think this component is great.

What I would like to see in future versions (in order of need):

1. Sub directories instead of one folder. I have to prefix file names to organize them.

2. Auto conversion of word document to PDF file (I upload a word document, and it automatically converts it to PDF.

3. E-mail notification when someone does anything to a document.

Great component, strongly recommend if your looking for a repository.

Love this component - just want one thing - RSS feed by spinfx, March 12, 2008
2 of 2 people find this review helpful:
I tried all the document handling components before settling on DocMan about a year ago.

Now we have more than 2500 documents listed and not a problem.

Version 1.4 offers some great additional features, but would love to have RSS feed available.

We have several libraries that need to be informed each time we add a document. Having the ability to provide a feed of all new documents would be fantastic.

Please, please add this important feature and keep up the great work - there are many grateful people out here.

Great Product by rhbowman, March 6, 2008
2 of 2 people find this review helpful:
This product was easy to install, configure, and get working. The product works great and I recommend this to everyone.

Disadvantages:

Loading documents into the component takes a long time.

No auto md5

No sub directories. Made me have to prefix file names to organize them.

No encryption supported

Advantages:

Too numerous to list.

Old but the most usefull by bobysolo, February 3, 2008

I've been using this extension for years now and still didn't find a better one for managing downloads in Joomla. It's easily customisable, you can use also on large sites and the admin area is easy to manage.

Great extension!

Essential component! by dfairley, January 26, 2008
2 of 2 people find this review helpful:
This extension works beautifully. If you need to provide documents, presentations, spreadsheets, images etc. for users to download, you need this component...

Define one or more Categories, upload the Files, add them to Documents, connect it up to a menu: job done!

You can apply separate styles (themes) to DOCman pages, and even edit the CSS for each theme through the DOCman interface.

Great job.

Does it all by xception, December 3, 2007

DOCman much like the phoenix is one of those components that was the best in its field in the 1.3.x incarnation all be it with small issues. The 1.4.x release has allowed this component in terms of 'community' to rise from the dead the response time and general feel of the community is excellent.

In terms of features i think DOCman could very very easy be put down as a directory component its flexible nature allows any user with a few hours to mess around with it and produce pretty much anything they want!

The only downside .. to me.. is the theme setup is ok very very neat but very difficult and things like this are known to hold components back ( simpleboard )

Given that virtually every issue with 1.3 is gone and 1.4 is building on new features and new ways to expand i expect DOCman will have a very bright future ;)

Fantastic - With One Exception by Thumdar, December 1, 2007

Docman is truly an excellent system for your download needs. Super logical with great functionality. The only complaint I have is that there is not a rating (and/or comment) system. This, to me, is a serious setback.

My website is based on its downloads and utilizes Community Builder which has very much helped make the site a "place to be". Members are very social and like to help others as much as possible. If members could vote/rate/comment on each download, it would add powerful information and help make the website more successful.

I would recommend DocMan to every webmaster looking for a powerful yet easy/enjoyable downloads system, but please.., incorporate a rating system.

A year ago I downloaded an early release but had problems that I was unable to fix and never used it. Now I downloaded the last release and work really well, also nice graphic. Very very nice component.

Ok, but a fatal cosmetic flaw by KennyB, November 22, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
This component works well enough and has an extensive back end interface.

However, there is the cosmetic issue that with the default template, the item at the top displays fine, and all the rest are offset to the right because of wrapping of text around the icon.

This was mentioned months ago in the DOCman forum complete with a picture of the problem, but it hasn't been fixed yet. Somewhere in the code an extra blank line must be output, but I could not find where to put it.

For me, this is a fatal flaw so I just gave up and used ReMOSitory Extended instead which works well and looks good too.
