Blocklist component
This component allows you to block ip-addresses or ip-ranges. You can define an alternate site block reason. When this ip-address visits your page, he will see an alternate page with the reason their blocked.

It works -- Thankyou by lala_ina, August 19, 2008
I used to have trouble with spams. I try to use this component and it DOES work!

It's so easy, just install and add the IP number you want to block.. and BUUUZ .. They all gone.

A little suggestion, it would be nicer if we can preview the config we make.

Thanks alot! ^_^

I started getting regular spam through my contact page. After obtaining the relevant IPx from my site stats, I blocked them with this and - hey presto ! - no more spam.

It's also got a good little user manual which is downloadable from the developer's site at http://www.joomla-addons.org/documentation/blocklist_doc_v1.pdf.

would be nice... by stutteringp0et, June 6, 2007
if there were some instructions. Single IP addresses work fine, but there isn't any documentation on how to block a range.....so into the code I go...

Nice little Component!

I only wish there was an easy way to test the config!

This was easy to install and use, and I'm looking forward to future releases and improvements of this tool.

Excellent idea,.... by dj_hardbeat, June 26, 2006

... but as I try to build up a list with IP-adresses, the Internet Explorer gives me an error!

The component could be great if it would be made a little user friendly. It would be nice if you can create a list of IP adresses, a reason why and a page link with this reason or any other page.

I really hope this component will grow! Thanks!

Does not completely remove when uninstalled by dhuelsmann, June 25, 2006

The idea is great. Would simplify adding IPs to deny list instead of having to work in two systems (cpanel and joomla). However, in 1.0.9 I was never ever to get anything but the html page for block page. There were no other parameters. After uninstalling, found that I had numerous errors displayed on the site. Turns out that files are installed in the mabots directory under a system directory and are not removed.

Great little idea, its a shame there is no instructions!!! by sonny, June 16, 2006

This is a great little tool, I could use this all day.. I would raise a few concerns for you which may or may not be taken in a good way. The only file that opens up is written in HTML coding. 75% of people use Joomla for the MS word style back end. People will not use the product unless they know how to code in html, its like asking a user what DOS stands for! Please think like a non-techie to get more positive repsonse from this, truely wonderful idea.
