XHTMLSuite Series 1
Because the result matters

XHTMLSuite produces valid XHTML 1.0 code. XHTML is a web standard defined by the W3C that ensures that your contents will be presented consistently in various software (like Browsers, Screen Readers, etc.) on different operating systems.

Accessibility — XHTMLSuite has it in itself

XHTMLSuite provides you with the basic things, you need to create accessible contents according to Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium (http://w3.org/WAI/) and Section 508 Standards (http://www.section508.gov/). XHTMLSuite's unique Accessibility Checker enables you to verify if your contents are accessible.

Each to his own

Thanks to its intelligent integration as a component into Joomla!, XHTMLSuite enables you to set up individual editor configurations for every default user group as well as for every single user of your website, e. g. depending on access level or state of knowledge. This gives you perfect control over your content.

This is a great product with first class support by B16Enk, April 25, 2007
Having tried other editors I stumbled upon XHTMLSuite here, with there being no demo to try (which is a shame as it will sell itself) I had to judge it on the Video demo the XHTMLSuite provide.

I was impressed, and seeing that UNRIC use it and provided a testimonial I bought a copy.

Patience is then required, because after purchase all I got was a receipt and no login for the XHTMLSuite site. However Bernhard provided the install package and a login within the specified two working days.

Installation was flawless (I bought the 508 version) but I soon realised I wanted more granular user folder control, Bernhard very quickly sent me a patch file to enable per-user folders. And again this was flawless.

I did experience two glitches, one was a Template CSS clash that Bernhard guided me through fixing (it was not an issue with XHTMLSuite) and one with IE7, Bernhardt was very quickly on the case, identified the issue and made a fix (to be incorporated into the Suite).

The editor is fast, easily customised to provide styles controlled by the admin to enforce consistency in content styling, granular in it's feature mapping to user groups (you determine which users get upload rights or font styles - pretty much anything on the toolbar for instance) and having a built in spell checker is a boon!

Support is prompt, friendly yet expert in nature and I therefore recommend this product without reservation.

I have since purchased two more copies, and am about to buy a fourth.

We are very happy with the XHTML Suite by msp_sb, April 23, 2007
We are using the XHTML Suite with all our joomla-based websites we are running for our customers. We are very happy with the XHTML Suite as even customers with only few experience in using computers are able to use the editor well and in no time. The video tutorial is highly appreciated, as it explains the use of the XHTML Suite in a simple but detailed way.

Using the XHTML Suite, it is no longer necessary to use the “mosimage”-function of joomla, which is not very userfriendly. With the XHTML Suite, any picture can be uploaded, published and formatted in a very simple way. We also like the possibility to have customized stylesheets integrated in the editor, that are easy to define and easy to use. The more, our customers like the spelling checking that is integrated in the XHTML Suite.

On our websites we use a lot of links to external documents, especially PDF files. The XHTML Suite allows to easily add the file icon and file size with the link, something we find very handy. For future releases of the XHTML Suite we hope for a easy way to update the links in case the document has been modified and a support for multimedia files.

Great App!!! by Mundrabandarat, April 17, 2007
Having tried all free editors I bit the bullet and purchased the XHTMLSuite.
The whole installation was done with just two clicks and after visiting the global config and making a few basic settings the editor was immediately ready to run.
I really love the accessibility checker which is a big help for me as my site is visited by many people with disabilities.
I had some problems installing a dictionary for the spellchecker at first but found a helpful thread in their support forum and could sort that out (probably related to my web hosting service).
This app is totally worth its price. Not only do you get a full featured WYSIWYG editor but also a comfortable administration tool that lets you control every aspect of the editor.

It´s bugy AND expensive by jimbojones, March 13, 2007

The Editor isn´t bad, bud it´s not worth it´s price. I bought it, and it took only a few minutes to find the first bug (image-upload: wrong paths) ...

I wrote a mail to the developer - no feedback.

Goodbye 30 Euros (only for 1 Domain!!! If you want to use it for several domains, you´ve to pay hundreds)

I´ve learnt my lesson!

Best WYSIWIG editor out there by globetrotter, March 6, 2007
Not sure what everyone's beef is with this product, but for the money it's the best editor around. I've gotten nothing but excellent support from the dev team and the features are great. I absolutely love the spell checker. If you are looking for an editor that's easy to install, gets regular updates and just works then this is it...

Pretty Good but... by shane, February 15, 2007

I think the XHTML suite is a good editor, but it seems to be lacking some of what makes open source great, constant development by other people. It does a lot out of the box and it does it pretty well. But i would like to see a plugin for connecting to the gallery2 bridge... i can do this for JCE but when i asked the developer when it would be coming, he could offer nothing. The backend gives you a lot of control, setup of the toolbars is a bit tedious. But you can have custom toolbars for user groups which is nice to be able to hide extra stuff for your standard users. Spellchecking built in was awesome, until it became a standard feature in firefox. Still good, but i was hoping for more.

It's good BUT.... by jmccann, January 11, 2007
I've installed the editor as a replacement for another editor primarily for superior Table handling. Overall I'm happy with the product but I'm having great difficulty in getting the "create hyperlink" facility to access Docman to allow a link to be created to spefic documents.

There's nothing in the documentaion explaining how this woks and I'm waiting to see if my query gets answered on the Forum.

Definitely worth it's price by monroeconsulting, January 3, 2007

This is really great software. Actually one of the best editing tools I've tried. Highly recommendable!!!

Has a great designed user interface (I especially like the hyperlink window and the image manager) and is really fast performing.
Output is valid XHTML 1.0 transitional. Would be great to see this switchable to XHTML strict too and/or XHTML 1.1. Anyway... this would be just the icing on the cake!

Nice features but... by jeffT, December 21, 2006

Having tried all the free wysiwyg editors available. I decided to purchase XHTML Suite expecting to get something more robust.
The interface is well designed and very pleasant to work with.
The image browser is very good.
The user/group handling is very good too. Allowing to set different types of permissions for each user or group.
You can also use different themes for the interface to suit your taste.
The embedded dictionary is very practical.
The accessibility check feature is also good.
Negative points:
Sometimes it does not create links properly. It creates a relative path and then adds up http:// at the beginning of the link! So you end up with a link like http://images/stories/whateverfile. It's better you double check befor you publish the content!
The pop-up window link doesn't work on my version of IE (IE 6). Okay Internet Explorer is crap, but it's not a reason to generate JavaScript that doesn't work with it!
The merge cells functionality produces unexpected results with the tables you manipulate. Making use of tables almost impossible, unless you type the code manually. Not really what you expect form a wysiwyg editor.
Etc.
It definitely has some nice features, but JCE will do almost the same job for free. If you don't need functionality like editor profiles or accessibility check, you may prefer to save your money and get a free editor.
I hope the developers will fix the annoying bugs in a next release, because overall it's a good product.

Great Product and A+ Support! by peopledev, November 22, 2006

In my opinion, it is the best editor for Joomla. Other free editors are OK but there’s always “something” that doesn’t quite work… This is not the case with XHTML Suite. Everything is of quality and all the features work great, including extras like interface with DocMan, dictionaries, and button customization for each user.

I found installation very easy and the instructions thorough. Though I encountered some glitches with the dictionary, I have to honestly say that the support I received was top-notch. Response was courteous, immediate, and, as a Joomla "newbie," I was offered extra help when needed. I couldn't have asked for more!!!

Definitely worth every penny.

Well Featured Editor - First class support by Frodo, October 17, 2006

This extension builds on TM Edit but works with an IIS server rather than just Apache. After first install I had a problem with the editor not displaying and I requested support. Bernhard was both prompt and helpful in his responses, eventually it turned out that it was my firewall that was blocking the editor display, which was easily fixed.

This editor has all the features that I need like table properties, file insert with file size, image insert and hyperlinks to Joomla internal pages (articles, categories, static pages). Don't underestimate the value of that last one, it saves lots of time over creating a menu item copying the URL and pasting it back as a link, then deleting the menu item (total pain).

My experience of this product is good value and excellent support.

Excellent! by worsin, October 15, 2006

I have tried every editor i could find and this one was the only one that i could get to work without hardly any errors. The minor problems i have had i do not think are even the editors fault but most likely one of my other mods (OpenSEF)

I have not had to contact customer support yet so i don't know how it is but if its anything like the editor itself i highly recommend it.

The docman integration is great, as well as the ability to customize the interfaces. My site is updated by many people that are not experienced in this area so it is key to be able to remove unneeded buttons that only add to their confusion.

TOP NOTCH!!

Great Editor - Lots of Flexibility by lisaegan, August 14, 2006

Hello, I've used a handful of editors thus far on my site, commercial and non, but XHTML Suite is accommodating all the different components and needs of my site without conflicting with the different scripts.

As far as support, my experience with XHTML Suite is the best I've found - very superior. I've requested basic support from others and received a range of responses from silence to frustrating. I highly recommend the component.

XHTML Suite is AWESOME! by MistaFi, July 28, 2006

Bernhard has got to be one of the top extension developers for Joomla. The XHTML software is top notch, and his customer service was excellent. I have tried out other editors, and none can hold a candle to the ease of use, and control that XHTML Suite gives you. Thanks for everything, Bernhard!! This is a great product. Keep up the good work!

Very good editor! by Dee, July 21, 2006
I tried almost every editor for me and my customers, and I will stay with XHTMLSuite. It's stable and easy. It is an EDITOR, not a featurebomb with bugs on every edge.

And, it is CHEAP!

The only problem I sometimes had with customers, depending on their hoster-settings (ownership & permissions of files), is updating to a new version. But this is not really the fault of XHTMLSuite, and mostly solveable (Joomlaexplorer or calling the hoster).

Customer-Support is very good. A lot of people seem to forget:

a) to read the license (the editor is locked to a domain for copyprotection, and that is good, as I want to see this software developed further)

b) to be polite by themself, yes, also developers are human ;-)

c) check (see above) ownership & permissions problems (depending on the hoster, it is not possible to overwrite files via ftp, if these files (components, modules, bots, etc.) are installed via Joomla, as then the owner is NOT the ftp-user)

d) RTFM ;-)
