An event-calendar for your website. You have got different views ( month, week, day) certain categories to sort your events and the possibility to submit events from the frontend. These can be autopublished or not depending on the settings of its parent category. In submitting events you are supported by several repetition- options and the possibility to generate exception dates. EventCal comes along with its own search-bot for joomla-own search- functions. Since version 1.5 it is possible to work with eventCal from your own component. That means eventCal supports several easy-to-use interface-functions to - for example- generate your own submit form for events with additional input-fields.

Excellent but missing something?!? by cupax, April 1, 2008
I love the concept and ease of use. Now, the only thing I can't make to work is to edit or add events from the frontend - there are no links or icons to click on.

Also there is no webpage with support or forums.

MY first Assessment by cantthinkofanickname, March 1, 2008
PRO
1. can style it with CSS
2. good, clear layout
3. installs OK

CONS
1. after some fiddling got the date format for UK
2. FE edits OK but cannot remove items entered except in BE.
3. "view category-list" does not seem to work properly although it does on the demo site. I cannot remove all of the events (the last removal cause all to reappear!).
4.not able to determine what "category" means in the menu parameters.
5. not sure if this will give separate calendars for each menu item (in different parts of the site.
6.on install threw up validation problems which would need work to eliminate.

Overall, not an intuitive calendar and needs some skills to adapt it. Not something I would feel confident in giving to client staff. I'm going to investigate JCal.

Brilliant But needs updating by fanflame, February 23, 2008
I really love this as it is simple and easy, and hasn't caused any problems. However, it does need updating especially the date Format - why must it be in US format, they don't rule the world! Also, it would be great to be able to upload from Outlook Calender as I always seem to have to write everything in twice.

That said it is a good, and recommended Module.

Great but needs some work by paullong, December 29, 2007
I love this calendar, but I really wish it would let me choose the date format.

Apart from that - solid and good work.

Adding events by justanswers, November 23, 2007
Thanks, Approx for the heads up on adding events. Folks this is a good component and it does work well. Its easy to configure and use. I would like to know how long before users can add events without the work around, though.
thanks,
ja

eventCal - nice job! by php4u, October 3, 2007

I am using eventCal for the 2nd time, nice job. I have two questions (no complaints);

1) how can I change the font of the weekdays of the mini calendar? They seem to be over crowded.

2) after entering an event, I get logged off and need to log back in to Joomla. Any fix for this, or did I make a mistake on the install.

Very nice application!

SOLUTION - How to add event in front end by Aprox, July 30, 2007

People,

I see a lot of you have had this problem, so in light of helping out I hereby inform you of how you can add events from the frontend.

(in backend by admin):
Create a new menu-item with link to "component" eventcal.
Name it something like "submit event" or so and connect it to the eventcal component.
Save the menu item.
Now, go and edit the menu item.
At this point you'll see that you now have additional specific choices to your menu item on the right. In the "standard view" scroll menu, please choose "add event view".
At this point your menu button will provide you access directly to the "add event" function through your front end.

NOTE: check the right settings you have assigned in the eventcal configuration as well as toe each category defined in eventcal.

As soon as I figured this issue out, then the eventcal extension is just brilliant for those who don't need all the fancy stuff. However, this solution is tricky to figure out yourself, so a user manual or similar would be nice for future references :-)

Cheers

Rune

Component, good. Module, well... by mattmaes, July 23, 2007

For the most part I'm very happy with the whole thing. Only one problem is perplexing and I have yet to find an answer or get a fix ...

In the "upcoming events" module you cannot change the date from DD/MM/YY to MM/DD/YY. This ends up being a big problem when you want to display your upcoming events on the frontpage.

7/10/2007 in MM/DD/YY format reads July 10, 2007. But currently, on the module, it would actually mean 7, November, 2007.

I've tried messing with the code, finding a patch and going through all the forums. No luck. Unfortunately there are no great calendar alternatives out there so I'm not sure what to do because otherwise I think this is great. As soon as this gets fixed, you will have a higher rating from me!

very nice by okidoki, June 4, 2007
It's a very nice component. It's having it all!

Best Events componet I could find by jmccann, May 18, 2007
I've used a few other Events component and this is by far the best looking and easiest to install. It looks great on site, and a user can easily understand how it works with rollovers and differnt coloured categories.

Only one thing stops it from being excellent. There is no documentation that can be given to the end user administrator.

Ok, but just plain text by Razi, April 25, 2007
I like the mini-event listing on the left hand side, but for eventCal to be _really_ useful, it needs to have the description of the event to be a wysiwyg editor so we can put images into the text, links and other useful information like maps to the event. Some of the other calendars do this, but are missing the "mini" event listing feature.

Love it! by icaninvent, April 19, 2007
I love this calendar. I am a newbee to Joomla! and love how intuitive this calendar was to install and set up.

It would be over the top perfect if it came with a registration/payment system, but no big deal, I just create paypal links and us them in the description of the classes we offer and people register and pay that way.

Great job!

Mini Cal in Opera and Firefox by calebnewman, March 3, 2007
I find this easy to install and to customise - my only issue is with the mini_cal module - the tables are only half the correct size in Opera and Firefox.

Does anyone else have this issue? Can anyone explain why or provide a solution?

Eventcal by bjude, February 6, 2007
The program is really excellent, installed easily, works well however, the purpose I am using it for is informative rather than communicative (and my php is pretty well non existent at present).
There does not appear to be any way of switching the register option off or easily changing its content and it appears to outsiders, when events are being displayed, that the hosting is from the site rather than the people holding the event. As a method of informing parents of small clubs of forthcoming events, meet times, places etc this additional option would really help and the ability to switch this option on and off would allow registration of internal events only.

Not Going to Use this Calendar by merrillh, January 4, 2007

First off, this is the first time I have been motivated to review a product, it was that much of a harrowing experience.

The install was easy enough, and the config was a breeze.

Then I looked all over for a way to allow a registered user to add an event from the frontend. I cannot foor the life of me figure it out.

Then I went to the demo site to try and get some insight, and I get a certificate warning on the URL of the demo site.

That was enough to motivate me to move on.

I would not waste your time trying to figure this one out.
