Great Component, and intuative setup.
Was looking for a newsletter component for a customer, who I knew was not that intuative, and settled on Arajoom News, because of it's Setup Wizard, since I did not know the specific reasons this customer wanted the newsletter tool. I personally found it useful, but noticed that on the second step of the the Wizard, it asked to set up the Auto-respond feature, which is not available on the News version. This is confusing, since the next step should be to set up a newsletter. Since it asked for a Mailing also, which I understand it in the Pro Version, not the News version, it was also confusing. Many of my customers would not need all of the extra features of the Plus or Pro version, so I did not got that direction. If the wizard was re-written for the News version it would be great. I also had a problem (as I do with may 3rd party components) I had the livesite url wrong, and it wouldn't work for this customer until I corrected it. But overall it provides a professional newsletter with the subscription feature and unsubscribe feature built in, which is very important with email these days.

| Free Version Falls a Bit Short by bascherz, June 17, 2008 |
|
Good clean install in J! 1.5.3. However, using the free version is a bit cumbersome. For instance, there is no templating or copy that I could tell, so you have to design each newsletter from scratch. I have limited outbound email (250 messages per hour), and although Acajoom can schedule a message in increments of 10 seconds, 15 would be better for my case. When I set it up to send a message every 20 seconds, it sent the first message and then in an animated fashion it counted to 20 while I watched. Then it sent the second message, and so on. This not only ties up my admin session for a long time (my list has 175 names in it), it also makes the PHP script run longer than the maximum allowed by my server (120 seconds). I think perhaps if you can blast a single email to as many recipients as you want, this wouldn't be an issue. But that's not the case for my site.
On the positive side, the front end functions are easy to understand and the newsletter looks exactly like you expect it to look. The CB plugin is better than the component front end and seems to allow each user to select preferences such as text/html, subscribe/unsubscribe, and view archived newsletters. Although existing, unsent newsletters can be edited by the admin in the front end, new ones cannot be created.
So unless the advanced versions correct these problems, I will have to stick to using Dada Mail to sending my newsletters. Owner's reply: When you create or edit a list, you can modify the template associated to this list.
As soon as you create a Newsletter for a Mailing list, the default template of this list (the one you created/modified) will be automatically loaded. (just edit your Mailing list and I'm sure our template system will be more clear!)
Acajoom Plus and PRO enables you to schedule your Newsletter so Acajoom will automatically take care of the send process without using your session.

| Wonderful Extension! by natwickham, June 15, 2008 |

So far Acajoom News is working perfectly for our needs. The import feature worked flawlessly! I just converted an Excel spreadsheet into a .csv file according to the specifications and it imported 1,000+ contacts without a hitch.
After several unsuccessful mailing attempts using the sendmail mail option (the message indicated the message was sent, but no one received them), I found out the problem was on my server end. I contacted my hosting company (bluehost) and had them increase the sendmail capacity to the maximum level and then set the configuration to send 1 e-mail every 8 seconds. Since then, it seems to be working just fine.
I love this product and highly recommend it!

| Good Component - Documentation Needs Improvement by afurzmom, May 19, 2008 |
|
I have not yet sent a newsletter to my entire subscriber list. That will happen on the first of the month. My comments are about installation and learning how to use Acajoom.
Installation went fine, although there was an error message and I had to install the module separately. My "test" messages went out, after a lot of frustration trying to set up the cron job (I had to use Acajoom's free cron service, rather than the one built in to my web hosting).
My biggest problem is the hard to follow documentation for set up and usage. Too many assumptions are made that the reader "knows" things he/she may not know. Make the user guides more friendly would really help.
I'm using the Pro version of Acajoom. I will review again after a couple of newsletters go out.

| good, but one wish. . . by jkkid31, May 7, 2008 |
|
We've used both the Acajoom Plus and News versions of this component, and we think that it works very well and does what it says as advertised. If you create your own template and insert images into the Acajoom Default folder, be aware that you will lose them on upgrades. That is the only real inconvenience of upgrading, if you don't already know that. Otherwise, it all seems to be pretty smoothe.
One wish would be that it clean up bounces automatically or at least make some report that you could approve the removal of bad addresses so the list would not get clogged with bad addresses as can happen as people change or discontinue their email addresses. This is the one feature lacking that distinguishes it from other e-newsletter programs, but it's a really important one for management.

| good but.. by sorema, April 30, 2008 |

i've been using acajoom since 2 years yet noone could solve me this problem:
it's impossible to automatically sync acajoom subscribers with joomla users. so if i delete a user from joomla it is not deleted from acajoom... it's a real shame and a great time loss.

| Best Newsletter System for J!1.5.2 by harryonline_at, April 24, 2008 |
|
If you prefer a non-commercial free solution, then Acajoom News is currently the best and only working newsletter system for Joomla 1.5.2.
I have tried Communicator, Letterman, SM2 Email Marketing and spsNewsletter - and none of them currently does work without any heavy bugs in Joomla 1.5.2 in legacy mode.
Vemod News Mailer would be another working solution which compiles newsletter automatically, but I prefer Acajoom News which does not compile automatically a newsletter from new content but gives you enough freedom to write yourself a newsletter by selecting yourself the requested content.
It is a shame that currently, only these two newsletter systems are usable for Joomla 1.5.2. The new Joomla is an excellent CMS but I am sorry to say: The other products being offered in this download section do not reach its level and are not mature for being used on a professional website.

| A great extension by Trv, April 9, 2008 |

I've found this newsletter component to be fantastic. I did 7 newsletters with letterman and as it turned out about 200 of my 500 subscribers didn't receive some or all.
No problem with acajoom.
You need to be aware however that the component does not work with all editors including JCE, TMEdit, TinyMCE and more.
Try using these and you'll find you just can't edit the newsletter.
I'm using JoomlaFCK which works well although font size is fiddly (not in px)
Similarly a newsletter must bu unpublished to edit.
Another thing that you need to be aware of is that if you change your template any newsletter that you may have started with the old template retains the old template.

| Really, Really good by mikkyhill, April 7, 2008 |

When I first looked at the site for this component, I assumed that it would be really bad. I was ashamed of myself for thinking this once I installed the component and started sending out newsletters. Easy to use, superb interface, user friendly. Definitely recommended

| Awesome newsletter - easy to install, works perfectly! by PakWaan, April 5, 2008 |
|
Wow! I have played with several other highly-rated newsletter components, and I have to say that this is the best of the bunch. It installs easily, works perfectly, and with a minimum of setup. I had it installed, imported my user list, configured it and sent out my first newsletter inside 30 minutes.
I couldn't ask for a better component. Thanks guys!

| Great component and the power of ajax. by king_xenorax, March 31, 2008 |

1 of 1 people find this review helpful:
First of all I want to thank the developers. They have done a great job. I had been looking for a great newsletter component and Acajoom was the one that is not succesful according to me in the past. After a lot of research I decided to review the joomla newsletter components again. Then I gave another chance to acajoom. He was developed since I have first chacked out. I liked and installed with no pain. I have seen that Acajoom deserved a review.
I have used acajoom to mail 9000 email adresses. I first divided mail adresses into 4 groups to finish all the job piece by piece. He sent all the mails with no pain. The time elapsed to send 2500 mails with smtp authhentication (no php mail) was 45 minutes. That is a great time. Meanwhile, ajax powered interface has worked despite my joomla login session has expired out.
Acajoom may send more than that number but I have not time try the application. On the other hand, some improvements might be beneficial. For example;
1. Newsletter send event may stored in a database and accidentally broken event may continue anytime. By means of this kind of an improvement, users like me do not have to divide their lists.
2. Editing of newsletter is not possible after you sent it.
3. The newsletters are attached to lists and you can only see the newsletter if that is attached to the list that you are in. This kind of situation causes mixup if you sent the same newsletter to all lists.
Instead of this, lists might be associated with the newsletters. When user clicks a newsletter he can see which groups have been sent the newsletter.
4. Newsletters might be categorized. By this way acajoom will be a complete communication medium and I think it will cut the joomla's core news system.
5. SEF improvements needed.

| NOT for 1.5 Stable by sjb1963, March 29, 2008 |
|
This component is NOT designed for 1.5.x stable. It is based on at BEST 1.5RC2. The entry here of compatibility is misleading. If you read the forums, it is well documented that it is NOT for 1.5 stable. It should not be listed here as compatible.
As a result, there are continuing browser issues that have not been resolved. Owner's reply: Since two months, more than half of our users use Acajoom on Joomla 1.5 stable.
You might have some problems with Acajoom 2.0.1 that we already fixed in Acajoom 2.0.5
