| A very good gig guide by WhatsOnSA, May 1, 2008 |
|
I have had gigCalendar running now for about 5 months. It is working extremely well and thanks to this extention I now have one of the most extensive gig guides in South Africa. I am using it with the gig Calendar Frontend.
There are some other features that would be usefull, like being able to select gigs by date/genre/state and city as well as a feature for recurring gigs and events which would then make it viable for theatre listings as well but even so I am very grateful to you for producing this extention.
Thank You very much - to see it in action look at whatsonsa.co.za

| Clumsy by kram, April 14, 2008 |

WOW, I'd suggest staying away from this one... right out of the box I get a clumsy SQL error, which to me is representational as to how buggy the rest of the code will be:
SQL Error DB function failed with error number 1067
Invalid default value for 'checked_out_time'
`checked_out_time` int(11) NOT NULL default '0000-00-00 00:00:00'
Ouch, now that's one clumsily configured table....

| Terrible - outstanding installer bug from 1 year ago by barney, February 19, 2008 |
|
I was unable to install this component, apprarently an issue with using MySQL 5. I got an error ¨SQL Error DB function failed with error number 1067¨.
On the developers support forum, there is a post stating that using the nightly builds will address the issue. Well, it doesn´t. I ended up with a corrupt install, with no uninstallation option from the admin site. I had to manually delete the component directory, then, using phpmyadmin, delete the 10 or so tables it had inserted into my installation.
What a mess! And to think that this is unresolved from more than 2 years ago!. Terrible. :-(

| gigCalendar -- difficulty changing "Band" by orlisgal, December 10, 2007 |

Hi there -- I really feel this product will suit my needs. The problem I found with it, and I'm sure it's because I'm new to Joomla, is that I was unable to figure out how to change "Band" lingo to the lingo I want to use. Very frustrating. Is there some place where I can find a complete set of instructions, rather than have to henpeck at the CSS and html and such to figure it out? Otherwise it looks like it's just perfect for my needs and I'd love to use it!

I had this on my site for a while but found it too detailed for my uses. I just installed it and my site has been completely corrupted. All of the information from my blogs and other pages has disappeared.
Its a disgrace. My site is destroyed.

| Top Component by qivva, December 3, 2007 |

I really love this component. Once you've fixed the couple of bugs (you can find the fixes on the forum), this component is really terrific. I have hacked it so that it's now an Events calendar on my sites(Events, Groups, Venues instead of Gigs, Bands, Venues) but that was relatively easy.

Very useful and reaching a level of industry focus (music) like no other addition, plugin, or add on that's out there. Have researched many different event systems, and if you're looking at setting up a social networking music focused site, this is the ONLY solution.
One little bitty downside,
Need's just a little bit more functionality focused at integrating with Groupjive (this would make a perfect mix) and also maybe, integrate with some sort of media setup like zoom.
With these features, would be the 1st, best, and probably only pack on the market focused at an all-in-one music social network package.
Would be more than willing to test new if still available.

| There is no support! by scotty, October 11, 2007 |

I really like the idea of this component and I could really use it but even with the latest nightly builds I cannot go back and edit any band info it will just give me this:
Query failed : You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'http://www.cinematicorchestra.com/', contactname = 'Ninja Tune', contactphone ' at line 3
Also there is no support you cannot create a login to there forums I've tried several times over the past two months to create one and it never sends a activation link. I've tried emailing them quite a few times also. If anyone has any suggestions contact me..

| A ROCKIN' calendar module! by vjacobi, September 27, 2007 |
|
gigCalendar installed, configured and ran PERFECTLY! Every other free Joomla calendar app I found and tried bombed somewhere or was otherwise usless for our needs. Even though gigCalendar was clearly intended for professional musicians, I was able to use this application on a church's website and very easily change some of the verbiage to accomodate the needs.
For posterity as of today, I'm running the latest stable version of Joomla! 1.0.13 on a remote server running Apache Linux 1.3.37 and PHP version 4.4.6.

| Fantastic! One drawback... by webmonkey, September 17, 2007 |
|
it's just got too many gosh darn fabulous features. ;) It has worked wonderfully for me, and I hope they put out a "simple" version that is stripped down for us common folk. It's been weeks now, and no problems. Well, except maybe teaching others how to enter things - seems they don't have the patience to enter all the info they should. (Server and local machine both Windows) One thing I would change is the tooltip-hovery things. They end up really long sometimes.

When combined with the gigCal Front End component, this is a terrific solution.

| Great Stuff!!! by xdriver, August 24, 2007 |

I know nothing about php/mySQL, etc....(I am a musician...LOL)
I have just started working on our Band site, and I really like this!!!
I only have a problem with exporting the data to iCal.
I could not find any references to other people having problems with it, so I just guess it`s my n00bness that impairs me...
When I click on the iCal/vCal link, I get:
http://mybandwebsite.com/components/com_gigcal/exporta.php?gigcal_gigs_id=16&ext=vcs
and a message that the file cannot be found...(404)
Any idea of what I am doing wrong?
I have been only "playing" with this for a day, and after my 10hour Joomla marathon, I am going to get some sleep and look at it in the morning. ;-)
Other than that, this is really great!!!
I LOVE IT!!!
Thank you for all the work you put in!

| pretty nice, BUT...... by t_surge_j, July 29, 2007 |

...i am missing a feature. you can only set up one band for a gig. i just founded an event organization company and i can't use this component without this feature because not any show with any band is only with one band, there is always a headliner and one or more other bands. if i would find this feature i would give it a good and would make further tests with it.

| Perfect for multi-bands and multi venues by liebgott, July 11, 2007 |
|
This program was exactly what I was looking for. Its able to track all the bands in my city and which venue they are playing in. The rss option is really great since I can feed it back into individual band pages. The only problem is there seems to be a small bug in which all my newer gigs are no longer feeding into my rss frrd. Other than that it is an awesome addition.
