Looks great but......, December 1, 2006

This component looks great and I'm sure it would be a terrific addition to my website except I don't know how to configure it. First the homepage is in German. That I can tell, there is no documentation for this component, either on the site or packed in the component itself. There are no help files in the component. Now here is the problem.

Before you can begin, you need to enter a partner ID and partner key from weather.com. There is no explanation how to get one. I went to weather.com looking for the key. Nothing comes up for either term in what search boxes I could find on the site. I signed up with weather.com to get a personalized profile. Still no sign of how to secure a partner ID or key. I signed up for one of the free weather services, figuring I'd get issued one then. Still nothing.

While I'm sure the securing of a partner ID and key is an obvious process to the developer and to the people who already have them, those of us who have never used weather.com could use a little help here. Could someone please post how to secure a partner ID and key for the clueless among us? Thanks.

AlphaContent 3.0.4 Ajax rating system included
 A component not completed, November 20, 2006

AlphaContent 3.0.4 Ajax rating system included As it is written now, this component is a well done piece of code that plays nice (so far) with all my other components. It allows you to create a directory structure using the "sections" and "category" portions of joomla. As advertised it does exactly what it says it will do. Unfortunately (as others have pointed out) it does not offer a subcategory capability. This means that whatever content you create is dumped into a single window based on the section you click on. Yes you can sort by category but only after clicking on that category. This makes for something of a confusing mess. In order to make this a true directory component, it needs the following: (1) subcategory capability (preferably limitless), (2) the ability to create and publish frontend forms allowing users to create their own directory entries. The first one would make this a complete and valued component. The second one would make this component rockin.

 Excellent component, October 21, 2006
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:

I run a martial arts school and wanted an event calendar that let me break things down into group (students, public, special events, etc.) and create exceptions for regularly scheduled classes. This component fit the bill perfectly. Installed it. It works without headaches or tinkering (something I haven't been able to say about many joomla components). Easy to use and not bad looking (could used a few different skins though). If you're looking for an on-line calendar that works and gives you good functionality, this is the one.
