ArtForms
 Buggy in Joomla 1.5.3, June 11, 2008

ArtForms Installation

When I installed the zip from my pc it timed out with a blank page, however it did install. I uninstalled it due to fear of an incomplete install. Re-installed via directory on the server; the only errors I got were language file errors.

Configuration

It seems to be a known bug that if you tinker with some of the items in the Configuration, it will break the entire Component and you will have to re-install. I tried to change the image used to signify 'required fields' and it broke the whole Component. I don't want to spend hours building a form and tinkering with the css to suddenly have it break and risk loosing everything.

Look and feel of front end

It is my opinion that their is too much customization to the form fields; text is too small, unnecessary back ground gradient images, etc,.

Unable to put a text sub-heading in the middle of a form to signify different sections.

I think this Component has a lot of potential, however, it's just not keeping up with Joomla versions as of Joomla 1.5.3.

Best,

wolfix

 Just right, August 31, 2007

I think this should be a candidate for an 'Editors Pick.'

This is my first choice in setting up a simple form that emails me and the person filling out the form. Works very good. Go ahead and read the tutorial so you don't waste any time.

Control panel is very simple and complements Joomla logic.

Notes on Setting up PerForms 2.4.0

Bug: Not sending mail
Fix: Leave 'From' position blank.

Bug: Radio buttons not lining up
Fix: use 'Tabular Data' template

The developeres seem to be fairly progressive.

Thanks,

VFM File Repository Excellent permission functionality.

No documentation but it doesn't take long to figure it out after you poke at it for a several minutes.

Thanks!

Events Calendar
Works Great - Looks Awful, November 14, 2006

Events Calendar Seems to work just fine but this calendar looks awful. If it looked as good as extCalendar I would prefer it because it's less busy visually and has the nice javascript pop-up's for each event.

I got the colors looking better by editing the css file but had trouble positioning the main month calendar and getting it to expand 100% across the page.

If it looked at least decent I would have given it 5 stars.

If you're good at messing with css and other files that affect positioning, you should try it out.

Good luck,

wolfix

Expose Flash Gallery
Great way to present Flash videos., October 31, 2006

Expose Flash Gallery Very nice component... enables me to create an online, video gallery using flv, videos.

Professionally programmed allowing for the joomla admin to configure the public presentation to a large extent by editing a hand full of files.

Nice 'bucket' feature that allows for ftp upload of all images or videos so you're not limited to a "browse and upload" pop-up window. Once you've ftp'd all your images you use the back end to organize your photo/video album by tagging files directly on the web server using the 'bucket' directory.

Thanks!
