JCE
 Top Extension, February 25, 2008

JCE This for us a standard extension that we install with every site we deploy. The image manager is much better than anything else, and much easier to understand than mosimage. It's really useful to be able to switch between WYSIWYG / HTML view without waiting for a pop-up. Or indeed being able to save your valid code without it being trashed by a dicky code cleaner in a popup HTML window!

Also being able to configure the layout is good as it lets you limit the damage your users can do when they start to use page level formatting. As well as speeding up the load time by leaving out some of the functions that aren't necessary for most users.

A must have for extension.

shSmoothSlideshow
Very nice and easy, but links don't work in manual mode, January 8, 2008

shSmoothSlideshow Really nice little module for creating slide shows. Installed easily without any problem, documentation and set up is clear and pretty straightforward.

My only real criticism is that its not clear from the description and documentation that when using manual mode (user controlled mode) the images cannot be hyperlinked, but only in auto mode.

So if you are looking to use this it as a form of advanced navigation tool (as I was) it won't do that at the present time.

I should also point out that when I asked the question on the developers forum, the answer was quick and clear, so the support seems good (even if it wasn't the answer I would have liked!)

Apart from that, its a very neat module and highly recommended.

AdsManager: Classified Ads
Excellent Classifieds Component, October 15, 2007

AdsManager: Classified Ads Excellent classifieds component. Installs easily, and does everything it should. The only reason I haven't given it a 5 star rating, is because the configuration / administration could benefit from some tidying up to make is a bit less cumbersome for those (like me) who might push the component to the limit.

For example, I would like to have seen the stylesheet editable through the configuration screens, and the ability to group custom fields relating to individual categories so these could be viewed as a group.

But these are minor niggles that can be lived with, because otherwise AdsManager is a top component.

NuSEF
Good, but with wrinkles, August 20, 2007

Good to see this has been picked up by somebody. I've used several of the SEF components but found this to be the best of the bunch. One of the things I like is the ability to "flatten" the URL structure by dropping the section element out.
Some plug in components need special configuration files (and sometimes don't even work properly then) which you need to watch for.
For most sites its a nice and easy to setup and configure, and altogether does what its supposed to.

joomlaXplorer
 Can't work without it, March 21, 2007

joomlaXplorer First job setting up a new site is to install joomlaXplorer. Gives you control over all your files and directories, and allows you to upload any customised files.

Can't understand why anyone wouldn't install it straight away!

SEF Advance
Great, but needs Ion Cube Loader, November 22, 2006
2 of 3 people find this review helpful:

SEF Advance I'd used SEF Advance on several sites in the past and it really worked well. However the core code of the latest version is protected using IonCube, so this needs to be installed on the server. If you are on a shared host, this might not be possible, as your hosting provider might not want to make the necessary changes - mine didn't :-(.

So if you are on a shared server just check that you aren't going to have problems installing.

Other than that, this is a great extension, and highly recommended as it's very easy to set up and configure, plus the support from Emir is good too.

FlexAdvert
Does exactly what its supposed to do, November 22, 2006

Very neat tool for managing banner ads. Simple to install and set up, once I'd realized that ad locations equate to a module position. Not overcomplicated and works well.
