I am one of several project managers working on a multi-vendor telecommunications project for schools in Southeastern Louisiana. In sum, the various vendors involved provide everything from network and cabling design and deployment to the professional and engineering services that go along with them for schools impacted by Hurricane Katrina.
The project is a wonderful example of a truly ad-hoc collaborative effort. Tracking the efforts of the entire team is, quite frankly, a nightmare. The project is so diverse and includes so many individuals from different organizations that a web based information exchange and tracking solution with user contributed content was really the only way to go.
The most important aspect of every tool we evaluated for use in collaboratively managing and tracking the project was the learning curve. I love DotProject, bit there is no chance that I’ll ever get anyone to learn to use it for a one time project. I know because I tried and failed.
What did work was to integrate specialized add-ons and modules in our Joomla powered project site. Each tool (scheduling calendar, forum, etc.) that we deployed caught on quickly and we have enjoyed a great measure of success.
The critical gap we had to fill was to find an effective task management tool that everyone could learn to use quickly. Fortunately, I was offered the opportunity to deploy Taskhopper as a beta prior to general release.
We have been using it for a few months now with outstanding results. The authors have achieved a perfect blend of usability and effectiveness. Taskhopper is a critical component in our overall effort to manage a very complex and rapidly moving project.
If you need an adaptable, feature rich and easy to use task management tool for your site look no further. Download and install Taskhopper today.
