MagpieRSS module for Joomla
Easy - and it works, June 10, 2008

I gave up on slick RSS and mod_feed because whenever I turned them on I got a '500 internal server error' and a core dump on my J1.5 site, but MagpieRSS worked first time.

VM Tree Factory 1.5
Very handy but a few formatting issues, November 29, 2007

VM Tree Factory 1.5 This is a great module but there's a couple of formatting issues which may hit you according to your default template:

If your category text wraps it tends to spill over the top of the next category text.

If you click + to view sub-categories, the next maint category sometimes jumps to the right of the last sub-category shown.

Security Images: THE CAPTCHA engine
nearly work s- but not quite, September 7, 2007

Security Images: THE CAPTCHA engine I have installed, patched, removed, re-installed, re-patched - tried in-house test servers etc. and although I can get the captcha to display, the module always reports that the wrong characters have been entered. There were some tips on the site to try and fix this but I gave up in the end - it seems to be hit and miss whether this works.

Simple Image Gallery (in content items)
Great Module - Easy to Install, August 2, 2007

Simple Image Gallery (in content items) What this module does is so simple, it is easy to install and the results are great. This must be one of the easiest ways to add a simple gallery to your site. Well worth a look and thanks to the developers.

Content Item Module
Quick and Simple!, March 22, 2007

Content Item Module I was wandering round Joomla trying to find out how to get the latest articles in a certain section to appear automatically on the front page of my Web site - no such luck, but then I found this module - just what I needed!

Header Image Module
Works great - take your time to read the docs, February 26, 2007

Header Image Module Ah, this module does just what I need - many thanks!

Installation and implementation are quite simple. As you can see from other posts, the main 'problem' people have is understanding how to name the image files correctly so READ THE ONLINE DOCS. If you follow the instructions you will be fine - I was up and running in Smart Mode in about 10 mins.

Easybook
Easy to install but you may need to tweak your PHP, November 12, 2006

Easybook This module is really slick, easy to install and use - well done to the developers!

The only hassle I had was that the security captcha wouldn't show and following my suspicions and a few forum posts, I had to re-compile my PHP with Freetype support as well as a few other directives; on my CentOS 4 box, this meant adding the following PHP configure statements:

--with-ttf
--with-xpm-dir=/usr/X11R6/
--with-freetype-dir=/usr/include/freetype2/freetype

Other notes related to confirming that gd and png support ware also enabled but these were already OK on my install.

Acajoom News
A very good extension in need of a few tweaks, September 17, 2006

Acajoom News We looked at Acajoom to replace Anjel and found it to be well written and easy to use but there were a few rough edges, for example: importing email addresses seemed straightforward but the imports didn't show up in the subscribers list, yet if we re-imported them, we were told they were already there! We ran some test mailings with few problems, but in the end we went for Dada mail (a non-Joomla based solution).

FacileForms
Great tool once you get used to it, July 3, 2006

FacileForms This is a very useful and well-written tool. Once you understand the basics then creating forms is fairly easy although laying out the text and data fields can take some time as it's a very 'manual' process and later re-editing and moving stuff around is not a quick process.

The only things that would make this app better are:

* Drag and drop object placement and resizing

* Object grouping so whole groups of objects can be moved at once (you *can* do this right now but it's a bit fiddly)

* Ability to copy already-created objects (eg: form fields) to make new ones with similar functions.

Overall, though, a great tool.

 Seems buggy, March 22, 2006

Looks great but although it works fine for some, I have just had to add a 'me too' in ExtCalendar's support forum because I too cannot edit categories or create new ones - a few people seem to be having this problem and there's no solution.

The search option at the bottom of the calendar also does not work properly for me - it dumps me back to the site's home page.

Try it - if it works for you, great! If not, support seems to be a bit non-existent.
