 Nice extension, December 19, 2006

Very good software. I like the moderator control functions and such. Look out for a bug introduced in the 1.1.4 stable - it shows a bunch of leftover SQL junk when you enter a forum. This one obviously wasn't ready for public release, although possibly stable.

For version 1.1.3 - There are a few common-sense design errors (such as allowing a link back to a post after just executing the delete command, and having a go button next to a drop-down list that automatically jumps) and some CSS positioning and formatting issues, but overall very functional and fast.

I would like to see the "rules" be stored as some content item, such as static content, rather than having to edit a .php file. Editing a file directly is contrary to the concept of Joomla.

Events Calendar
Best so far, but could use improvement, December 16, 2006

Events Calendar Links to add and edit content are in a strange place... it would be better placed in a menu using standard menu classes used from the main style sheet.

Lots of customization options, including its own CSS! That's impressive. A disappointing selection of attribute values though... odd non-neutral colors and a calendar that doesn't stretch to width.

Category management is sort of confusing, since it uses its own categories a user can get confused with jooma categories.

This would be a great component if it allowed frontend content manipulation.

Overall this calendar extension is better than all the others I've seen.

eventCal
Not a very good, proprietary in nature, December 16, 2006

The extension looked good at first, and was easy to install and look at. Then I read through the documentation to see how many features I could use.

Content is stored in a proprietary manner. - This is a content management system, why not use its content management features to provide more functionality?

Content can only be edited from the back end. - If existing storage would have been used (along with an index for additional data), front and back end manipulation and controls would have been possible through Joomla. Instead, we're limited to using two proprietary category managers and no section to allow proper browsing and front-end submittal.

JoomlaFCK editor
Messes with my code!, December 3, 2006

JoomlaFCK editor This one seems decent, and I like source mode, and how it doesn't mess with my code as much as TinyMCE. But it still messes with my code. When I try to use a hack, or sometimes even something mainstream (I can normally find a workaround for this though) it deletes it. Twerp said this is the only one that doesn't mess with code... IT'S NOT TRUE! Can I just get an editor that records what I type?
