YaNC
Integrates well with Community Builder (CB), March 10, 2007

YaNC I got off to a shaky start, trying to use 1.5Beta2-preview with CB 1.0.2, but I posted on the CB web site and someone told me that 1.4 does. So, I installed 1.4 and it works well.

I didn't have any problems with front end layout and defaults being ignored, as I did with one of the other newsletters I tried. This version seems to integrate very well with CB 1.0.2 and Joomla 1.0.11.

I haven't used the actual newsletter feature yet, though, because I haven't had it up long enough to get anyone to subscribe. I'm expecting that it will work fine, but if it doesn't, I'll amend my review.

Acajoom News
Unfortunately I couldn't get it to work correctly, March 8, 2007

Acajoom News I could not get 1.1.5 or 1.2.3 to work with Community Builder 1.0.2 and Joomla 1.0.11. I didn't actually ever send a newsletter -- I was trying to get the layout for the module and the subscription part to work first.

I'm sure that a lot of the problem is me, and I'm sorry to have to write a negative review because this product has such great potential. The web site has very useful video tutorials, and you can tell that they're trying hard. I'll try it again later, but for now I have to uninstall it.

The biggest problem I had was with layout. Acajoom has a very large font for headings showing what the user subscribed to, and, as someone else mentioned, it had far-spaced columns. I thought I found a way to fix it (change the style "title" in the CSS for my template, which is not a good solution, but it worked), but then when I unpublished the module (and used just the component front end), it no longer worked.

In the end, I was confused about how to integrate it and where to set the settings. Do I configure it as a CB plug-in, and set things there? Do I change the module settings? Do I go to the User menu and add a component?

As I keep repeating, I'm sure it's me just being too confused, but that's part of the problem. Call me a dummy, but a short procedure that says how to integrate with CB would help. You might have absolutely no problem with this -- many others seem to love it -- so take my comments with a grain of salt.

EasyFAQ
Very easy and shows lots of promise, December 30, 2006

EasyFAQ This shows a lot of promise, but it's missing one feature that I really need and that I think a lot of others would want, too. Since this is only a release candidate and not an official release yet, who knows. It might make it in there -- I'll certainly keep an eye out for it.

It will allow any logged in user to add a new FAQ. I want only "Special" users to be able to do anything other than read a FAQ. So, until this feature is in there, I won't be able to use it, but I will keep an eye on it. As another poster said, Adam has a very active forum and seems responsive to requests.
