XHTMLSuite
Nice features but..., December 21, 2006

XHTMLSuite Having tried all the free wysiwyg editors available. I decided to purchase XHTML Suite expecting to get something more robust.
The interface is well designed and very pleasant to work with.
The image browser is very good.
The user/group handling is very good too. Allowing to set different types of permissions for each user or group.
You can also use different themes for the interface to suit your taste.
The embedded dictionary is very practical.
The accessibility check feature is also good.
Negative points:
Sometimes it does not create links properly. It creates a relative path and then adds up http:// at the beginning of the link! So you end up with a link like http://images/stories/whateverfile. It's better you double check befor you publish the content!
The pop-up window link doesn't work on my version of IE (IE 6). Okay Internet Explorer is crap, but it's not a reason to generate JavaScript that doesn't work with it!
The merge cells functionality produces unexpected results with the tables you manipulate. Making use of tables almost impossible, unless you type the code manually. Not really what you expect form a wysiwyg editor.
Etc.
It definitely has some nice features, but JCE will do almost the same job for free. If you don't need functionality like editor profiles or accessibility check, you may prefer to save your money and get a free editor.
I hope the developers will fix the annoying bugs in a next release, because overall it's a good product.

MgMedia2
 Very good, December 21, 2006

MgMedia2 Simple to install.
Simple to use and works like a charm. What can you ask more?
Maybe a simple GUI to change the parameters when you embed a file?
Thanks for the good work.

JCE
Pretty good but not perfect, December 21, 2006

JCE Having tried all the free WYSIWYG editors available, JCE seems to be the most complete one. It does a good job. BUT still A FEW IMPERFECTIONS REMAIN.
Most annoying is the embed media functionality that... simply doesn't work. Not only it doesn't work, but if you want to embed a video typing the HTML code manually, JCE will just strip out your custom code! I had to revert to the non wysiwyg editor to embed the videos in my content!
Neither you can create pop-up window links as some other free editors do.
The image browser is good, but it doesn't let you browse the whole site. You're limited to the Joomla image/stories folder. It would be better to have access to the whole site structure, at least if you are administrator or super administrator.
Despite these few negative points, JCE work well. Apart the embed video problem, I haven't noticed any other major bug. It's also quite fast and efficient.
If you mostly use text + images content on your site, JCE will do the job nicely. If you have more complex content, or want to add some custom code and JCE doesn't like it, you may become frustrated.

Gallery 2 Bridge
 Just perfect!, December 13, 2006

Gallery 2 Bridge Easy to install, easy to configure for anyone with reasonable knowledge of Joomla and easy to use. ;-)
It does what is says. You can have your Gallery 2 content accessible from your Joomla site. But do not forget, it's a bridge component, not a full installation of the Gallery software. You must have Gallery 2 installed on your domain to use the Gallery 2 Bridge component.
Only problem is character encoding, but the solution to this is explained on one of the posts here.
BIG THANKS to the developpers for sharing this great component with the Joomla community.
