mod_cbconnections
Simple to use and setup...and effective, April 27, 2006 |
|
A nice little module that also prompts users to make more use of the connections system. Set-up and use are a breeze. I chose to use it in the top position and have it trigger when user details lists are requested. Just showing that it is nicely adaptable.

Download3000 component
Not working for me, April 20, 2006 |

I've followed the very simple instructions offered on the suppliers website and nothing happens when I add this component...as for a help file in the package...sorry but there isn't anything that comes up to that description in the package as best I can tell. Maybe the problem is that my host blocks f url open from accesing external links...but seeing as there is no help forum nor other obvious support for this product there's not much I can do to find out. Nice idea, shame it doesn't appear to work.

YaNC
Not working, April 11, 2006 |
Sadly this product seems to be dead. I've posted to their support forum and waited for a reply but to no avail. It works on Mambo site but not on Joomla 1.8 where is gives the following (confirmed by another user):
This code is showing in the manage URL screen (having first set up a site in the manage sites screen):
Unknown column \'u.url_id\' in \'on clause\' SQL=SELECT u.*, site_name, SUM(clicks) as clicks FROM jos_newsletter_urls u, jos_newsletter_sites s LEFT JOIN jos_newsletter_stats_urls su ON u.url_id = su.url_id WHERE u.site_id = s.site_id GROUP BY u.url_id ORDER BY site_name, url_name LIMIT 0, 50
I tried the bug fixes offered earlier in their support forum but to no avail. Clearly there are errors aplenty and an "out of the box" installation simply won't work at this time.

Sectionnav
An Excellent module, April 7, 2006 |

Actually the author doesn't do his product justice in the text provided on this site...it allows one to have the sections displayed in an alphabeticl list that overrides the order of entry of the sections...very useful.

A free API turned into a commercial component, March 30, 2006 |
|

This system is based upon the free API provided b pnFlashGames whose own system (for Post Nuke and other CMS) is always provided FOC. The price we are asked to pay is for conversion (and support for the conversion) of a free script to run on Joomla and integration into Community Builder. All very well for those who feel the price to be justified but I opt to forfeit the integration and set up a Post Nuke site with the feee system, strip out all other components that can be removed without stopping the CMS from running, then include it into my Joomla site by way of a wrapper. Same games but FOC!

FacileForms
SEO, March 27, 2006 |

For me the very worst part od Facile Forms, which is otherwise excellent, has to be that it won't run if one uses search engine optimisation be it the default installation type or via Open SEO. The Open SEO developer has reviewed the situation and found that this is due to a bug in Facile Forms. The developer of xtdratings is attempting to put this bug right and I hope he manages to do so as speediliy as possible (all credit to him for trying.)

Licensing Issues, March 25, 2006 |
|
Reading the Sourceforge postings about this project makes it pretty clear that there are potential issues regarding the use of closed sourse code from AKO Book...sadly if the code is in question, as it is, this product is best avoided.

Not with Communty Builder, March 25, 2006 |

It looked nice but oh dear...new members can't register with a site running this if it also has Community Builder installed. Beware!
