flvTV v.01
 Works great, February 2, 2008

flvTV v.01 I'm surprised this has not been reviewed as much as the LucaZone product; it worked right 'out of the box' and was very easy to understand and configure.

I'm sorry to say that I didn't have the same luck with the playerFLV bot as the archives on that site all seem to be corrupted in some way and I wasn't able to install them at all.

While flvTV may not have the same bells and whistles, it was easy to install and it worked - and after all, that's what really mattered to me.

Skin CB Registration Page
 Nice idea, January 24, 2008

Skin CB Registration Page While many could just as easily manipulate the CSS themselves, let's not forget that the level of expertise amongst Joomla! users varies greatly. That being said, this is a great way for users with no CSS or HTML/PHP expertise to make their CB registration form stand out from the crowd. And with a reasonable price ($6 USD) there's no excuse to have an ugly CB registration again.

PHP Spinner for Joomla!
Very interesting, backend screen shots would help though, December 18, 2007

PHP Spinner for Joomla! If page rank is important to you, then this may be one of the most important additions to your Joomla install. This is one of those add ins that really needs a good explanation because the concept on which it is built is not understood by many. Fortunately, the developer has provided a thorough and entertaining video on the site to explain as well as a front end demo.

What would really help though, would be a BACK END demo or at least screen shots/video to help people understand what is required. I'm sure this will be added soon after this gets published though, since the dev has obviously taken precautions to make sure the value of this add on is clear.

Reasonably priced, this addon should be a hit with all commercial Joomla installations.

CB Superthumb
Needs work and documented examples, September 4, 2007

CB Superthumb I installed this as the 'demo' link doesn't really tell you what it does. And after I installed it, I am STILL not sure what it does or is suppposed to do...but I *did* note that it displayed users which I had NOT APPROVED nor were they confirmed (actually they were scripted spam entries!) and I think that's one bug that needs to be attended to immediately. But hey, thanks for alerting me to the fact that I hadn't deleted the spam users! I guess that's one point in your favor...

Joomla-SMF Forum Component (Simple Machines Forum)
Wow, THAT was easy..., August 3, 2007

I've stayed away from SMF for awhile, in part to support other developers (FireBoard) and to steer clear of any GPL issues with other bridges.

But this solution is fully GPL Compliant and went in like a breeze. It literally works out of the box and was no trouble at all to install. Directions and steps are cleraly indicated and the process was absooutely painless.

If you've been dreading a bridge install, this is your answer. I haven't tried the CB support yet, but that is yet another plus in this component's favor.

Nice job, JSMF Team!!

nf_scroller_XT
Documentation needed but works great, June 25, 2007

Like the previous kind poster, I'll add a bit of the info I figured out in hopes of helping others - Feeds must *first* be set up in the core newsfeeds module. Then you use *this* scroller to present them. The component is only necessary if you want to create a menu item that takes you to a content area with scrolling feeds (I'm sure there's a reason for this but haven't figured it out yet....) and then you set the parameters up in the menu item.

Confusing? A bit, but if you read this post and the post below it, it shuold be easier to setup and once it's configure it works awesome. If you want to scroll news feeds, this is currently the only game in town.

The Shapechanger Module
Great idea but..., May 2, 2007

The Shapechanger Module I might have rated it higher, but I really wish people wouldn't put their personal biases into code...the goals of a programmer shouldn't be 'dumbing it down for IE' but to strive to make things that are compatible for both environments as to ignore the fact that these two browsers remain neck and neck is to ignore reality. Not to mention that I would NEVER tell any user or client what browser they SHOULD be using, any more than I would tell someone what car they SHOULD be driving or who they SHOULD vote for.

Joomlajax - Ajaxify your Joomla!
Might be an option for SOME, but..., April 21, 2007
1 of 2 people find this review helpful:

Joomlajax - Ajaxify your Joomla! unfortunately to make it work according to the instructions, I'd have to eliminate most of the rest of my site...

In the install instructions:

- Disable any SEF ( Search Engine Friendly ) or any SEO Components or Plugin that may exist in your joomla ( You can Disable SEO in Joomla Global Configuration area )

- Do not use templates that use JS toolkit/Libraries. it makes joomlajax not work in some cases

- We advice you to Disable component/mambots that includes any JavaScript Toolkit like jQuery, Mootools & ... ( However if you want to use them. Check if it works correctly with Joomlajax )

If you had a simple site without these items and didn't need SEF, then it IS a very cool effect, but I think this has a limited audience.

Amazon Partner
Great product, great developer, April 13, 2007

Amazon Partner I can't understand why there aren't more votes or reviews of this excellent product. With so many commercial optins of rincluding affililations in your content, this FREE product does the job well and logically.

I had a bit of a hangup (NOTE: If you use this and you have the cache turned on, you should purge your cache when you patch your content with links or else you won't see them right away) and the developer volunteered to visit my site to check out my install! There are some PAID products that don't offer that level of support!!

You should also check out the JoomlaBoard version of this program which works right outof the box and is simpleot install and configure. The fact that in BOTH cases, YOU get to decide what content gets patched with links instead of an all or nothing proposition makes this program that much more valuable.

All in all, this is a must have for Amazon Partners. Great job!

Niftybox and Niftycolumn
Would be great...if it worked, April 11, 2007

Niftybox and Niftycolumn Add me to the list here that can't seem to get this to work in either IE *OR* FF. At least with the older version I got a series of differnt colored square boxes...with the latest update I get ONE square box and a bunch of text. Even after putting it lower on the mambot list (and below tabs and slides as recommended....)

But I'll keep trying it becuase once it works, it's going to be a nice addition to the toolbox!
