VirtueMart
 THE KING OF KA-CHING$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, June 17, 2006

VirtueMart Amid the many web stores I have developed, populated and managed, this is by far the best and the easiest to use. It is laid out lagically and highly functional in its approach. The way is is constructed is very search engine friendly, particularly with the write hands tapping away at the keyboard. And although not totally neccesary, the store produces completely search engine friendly URLs with the use of OpenSEF, even when products are loaded into multiple categories. And best of all, it works with Joomla. Just take a look upon this site to see but a few of the possibilities that the Joomla network of components provides. As for complaints, when considering all the other software I have unfortunately used to develop online stores, I am quickly reminded that the only complaints I have is that I wasted my time using such stores as Miva Merchant, OScommerce, ZENcart and a handful of others before realizing the impact that the Joomla / Virtuemart / OpenSEF / Gallery2 / Joomboard / Other component packages have upon you, your retail efforts and those retail efforts of your clients.

Good But Not Good Enough, Particularly for Gallery 2, June 10, 2006

Worked far better than the standard 404SEF, since it didn't have certain bugs, such as the one that made popular and latest news module links contain stray code strings, but unlike the standard 404SEF, it doesn't work with Gallery 2. I then resorted to OpenSEF, which not only works with Gallery 2 and flawlessly with standard Joomla, but it also works with Virtuemart.

EventList
Excellent In Its Infancy, May 16, 2006

EventList This is an excellent component still in its infancy. It integrates well with Joomla as well as Community Builder / Joomapolis and provides an excellent means for the community site to integrate greater. For multi-day events as well as well as events such as races that take place under several race promoters throughout different countries and at locations that really do not have a specific address, it sucks. For this, I am in favor of EXTCalendar, which actually has a calendar, but then again, EXT Calendar is heavy and doesn't integrate as thoroughly. I'll see what I can do to tailor Event List to my liking and wait for added features as it grows.

Lengthy Configuration / General Events Without Location Are Pain, April 11, 2006

EventList This component works well but takes some configuration to get things going. For example, for every event, you must have a location configured into the system, which sucks for events that take place in foreign countries or even for general events such as birthdays. I concentrate on off-road racing and found it difficult to list an event that does not take place at a specific city. Because of this issue and the configuration involved, I chose to stick with EXTcalendar, which is far easier to use and configure. One thing in Event List's favor is the fact that it is lightweight and the Joomla search function searches the events as well.

 Great Component, April 11, 2006

I have used this upon several sites and have found this component to very easy to install and looks great using the easy-to-install GTek template / theme. Users can easily submit events. I have also found that the search engines are eager to pick up on the module content as well as the content within the calendar. The image URLs in the top bar had to be manually fixed on every install I performed as they did not show. The drawbacks to this component are that the events are not searchable through the Joomla search function (Event List is), category order is not alphabetical and cannot be changed and it seems to load slower than other calendars, but then again, it is the best overall calendar component and easiest to configure.
