Not Bad but could be much more!, September 26, 2007

The good:

Installed like a champ

Linked and started up no problems

Lots of smileys

Fast, very fast. No lag in between messages.

Things to improve for next update:

Admin page

Previous chat conversations can not be cleared. This is really bad if someone posts something you don't want others to see. Like an innapropriate link etc.

Ability to load the chatroom in its own window instead of in the parent window. (You can create a new mod and make it open in a new window but it loads the entire site instead of just the chat.)

Option to not allow users to change their nickname. (The demo on the site is currently this way and would like to know how to set that up myself)

Other than that, it runs smooth. I will wait and see what it does to my bandwidth usage at the end of the month and I'll update this review.

JCal Client/JCal Pro (event calendar for Joomla)
Best Calendar Hands Down, February 4, 2007

JCal Client/JCal Pro (event calendar for Joomla) I am a complete CS/Joomla! noob. But a long time IT professional who is just now getting to know the flexibility and power of Open Source. Can you say front huh what? I needed a simple to install and configure calendar that provided an easy way to be edited via the front end. I litteraly installed and tested 6 different calendars. I was at wits end and ready to give up. I decided to try one more and that was JCal Pro. All I can say is WOW! It looks great. Configuration was a snap. Anyone out there thinking of writing your own extensions needs to take a look at this for how to do it the right way. I had this calendar installed and working in about 30 minutes. The mini calendar and Latest Events menu items are awesome. I simply can not say enough good things about this calender! I am not a CS kinda guy so anything that I can easily be set up and configured via Joomla! admin is a neccessity. But that doesn't mean it shouldn't look good. The bugs in JCal Pro are more of an annoyance than anything. You can work around them. The only thing I would like to see is the ability to edit events from the backend. It currently only allows editing the categories. But hey if thats the only problem I have....
