JoomVR Panorama
Great support, but needs Java compatibility on the server, July 27, 2007

I loved the functionality of this component. The standard version seems even faster. All was perfect, except that it did not work on my site. When I dug in a bit further, I realized that it was because this component requires the hosting provider to support Java on their server. My host was a pure php provider and I was not that inclined to drop the extra time and bucks to transfer to a new host.

However, I should applaud the developer. He tried his best to resolve the issue for me. EXCELLENT, prompt support.

All in all, if your host supports Java applet viewer scripts running insider compressed jar files, this is an awesome addition.

FlippingBook Joomla Gallery component
 Awesome!, July 10, 2007

FlippingBook Joomla Gallery component Works perfect. Have only heard compliments about it from clients. Works great and good support. Their developer license is a bit expensive so you are pretty much going to be paying $30/site.

Feature request: If there is a way to be able to classify books into multiple categories and display menu items that lead to these categories, that will make this even more awesome for me.

JoomlaPack - AJAX powered backup and restore
 Nice tool!, February 12, 2007

No problems installing or backing up the site! Great job and THANKS.

Some quick feature requests:
1. If there are multiple sites installed on the database, it would be nice to be able to select the tables that we would like to backup. Same with the files/folders.

Component looks good but support/documentation needs work, February 11, 2007

First of all, let me start by saying that the component does look good and seems to have the advertised functionality.

However, here are the problems I faced, in the order that I saw them as I tried to install this component:

1. When I clicked on the download button here, it took me to the sourceforge site. All good. On sourceforge, the software shows no tracker information. The maturity on the software has no entry - so it was not clear to me whether the software is in Beta/Dev/Stable/Not Stable, etc.

2. No tracker information on sourceforge either.

3. The version # for the software follows the joomla versions. Good in a way, but again, that does not tell me whether or how fast this product is moving forward.

4. Download and installataion of component was fine. No problems there. It installs as a Joomla component. All sites are stored inside the folder for this component. It shows the Home URL for this component as www.joomup.net, but this site was down.

5. After installation, I visited the "Site Manager" portion. It allows to easily add new sites and edit/delete existing ones. I entered some information for the domain name and the directory to store files for the new site and that added the site. However, it showed me some code errors - which meant nothing to me except that there was something wrong. I changed my settings a few times and that reduced the number or errors. For one of the sites that I added, I could not elimiate all errors.

6. But here was my BIGGEST problem. After adding a site, it asks us to change the VirtualHost settings in the configuration file (change the ServerName and DirectoryRoot settings). However,
a. It does not specify what configuration files need to be changed. I assumed it was httpd.conf
b. It does not say how to add this information. What code to change and how to address different scenrios such as adding a site like www.subdomain.yoursite.com OR www.yoursite2.com OR www.yoursite.com/site2, Etc. As a result I googled to find out about adding virtual hosts to apache and then tried several different options. But I could not get my sites to work. In fact, my main site, which was working ended up stopping and I saw an error message "Template not found. Searching for Templates...". Even after I removed all my changes to httpd.conf, I could still not bring my site back up. I removed the new sub-site altogether, still no luck. So, to bring back my main site, I ended up uninstalling the component and the main site came back up.

I must mention that I am an apache newbie and all this could have been a breeze for someone with apache experience.

So, in all, my opinion is that the component looks like a great start...has a lot of promise...but there needs to more documentation and help.

I am going to look at the Site Manager Pro which costs $99/license.
