AdSense Module (ClickSafe - Special Edition)
Quite good, May 16, 2006 |
I had no use for the "chameleon colors" feature of the module, but besides that it works flawlessly. I'll trust that it generates Adsense safe code, even though it looks a little different from what Google gives to copy and paste (Google hasn't called me out on it yet).
It's as good as I could hope for, except for the IP blocking functionality. It'd be a lot more useful if it could block ranges of IPs instead of just a list of 5 individual IPs. A simple bit of regex could solve that.

Joomap
Works great, but please no ads, April 28, 2006 |
Installed and worked instantly with no muss or fuss. I found the advertisement in the file joomap.html.php on line 137-142. From what it says in the comments, "BEGIN: Advertisement (improve my google ranking)". I don't like becoming a link farm, and this also invalidates your site in terms of the Google webpage guidelines (which you need to follow for AdSense). I advise removing these lines, the component works fine without them.

Works great, April 6, 2006 |

I think I might have encountered some errors on install, but it was nothing complicated and I got it installed in about 15 minutes. Works fine, and the options it provides are great. Only complaint is the small number of default font choices, because when I tried using my own ttf's I got lots of boxes ([][][]) when it tried to render invalid characters.

Very basic, still buggy, April 6, 2006 |
I'm glad I know php/html, because this forum was buggy. Overuses tables at times, quite a few typos, and viewing inconsistencies in between category view and flat thread view. Overall, I was not too impressed with Joomlaboard because I had to fix all this stuff myself; I really expected something better. Hopefully version 1.2 will be better.
It does work though, and avoids the mess of a bridge, but its functionality doesn't go much farther than some bbcode and avatars. File and image uploads are awkward.

BSQ Sitestats
Good, but AWStats is better, April 6, 2006 |

Nice easy install, and the optional graphing module was a breeze as well. Provided a decent amount of statistical information, enough for basic things like hit counting and popularity tracking. However, AWStats is far far superior and not much harder to set up. Ask your hosting provider about it (many offer it), or set it up yourself if you have shell.
