NuSEF
Great SEF , But I quit using it, December 17, 2007
1 of 2 people find this review helpful:

I absolutely love most of NuSEF (used to be called Open-SEF).
The feature set is great! Very easy to use.

However, as my website got bigger (5000+ pages), my website took a long time to load when NuSEF was turned on.
NuSEF turned on = 4X longer to load than when NuSEF is turned off.
This is on a shared server at a very big Service Provider.

Memory usage increased above the standard 32MB limit allocated by shared servers to my account. I had to allocate 64MB via .htaccess file in order to get my page to load.

All of these problems went away when I turned NuSEF off.
So, reluctantly, I am switching to a different SEF component.

Switching your SEF on a mature website can be very costly, since some of your URLs will change, and that can cause you to lose a lot of previous SEO work. It can worsen your Search Engine page position and reduce your traffic. It is important to chose the right SEF component early in the life of your site.

MosSnippet
Huge time saver. Insert form & update hundreds of pages, September 28, 2007

Huge time saver.Very easy to insert script and make updates.

I need to insert buy-now forms anyplace within a content page. I have hundreds of pages so I need quick and easy method to insert the form. Also, need to modify the form without going back to revise hundreds of pages.

I created the form out of css, html, & javascript.
Named the form: buy-now-form.html
Insert the form in any content page by inserting the string:
{snippet buy-now-form}
Copy and paste that string as text anyplace in the page.
That is all you need, and the form shows up in page.
When I revise the form in buy-now-form.html, it automatically revises the form on every page which contains
{snippet buy-now-form}

That is a major time saver.
And, it keeps the Joomla pages simple to edit. I do not have a lot of form code cluttering up the text pages.

Yahoo SiteMaps Plugin
Yahoo Explorer Sitemap Mambot, July 15, 2007

Yahoo SiteMaps Plugin Simple little Joomla mambot.
Installed easily.
Setup was confusing because I was not familiar with Yahoo Sitemap and the mambot did not explain it clearly enough for me.

There is only one field to fill-in on the mambot: "YahooSiteMap Key"
If you hover over the that word, you get a popup example of the YahooSiteMape Key. The example shows a number like this "d08ed6cg02tt988c".

Then sign up for Yahoo Site Explorer at: https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/mysites.
Put in your website's URL. Then hit "Authenticate". This will display some key numbers. Choose the short number that looks like the example you get from your mambot when you hovered over "YahooSiteMap Key."
In yahoo you will see:
"If you have problem with downloading the authentication key, please create a text file named as y_key_e727fd6a45f03ea1.html, put this string d08ed6cg02tt988c into the file." The short number "d08ed6cg02tt988c" is the key you need for your mambot. Go back to your mambot and put in the key.

I use Open-SEF which generates a new SiteMap Xml file every week. The file is called “google_opensef.xml”.

Back at Yahoo Site Explorer, go to "manage" your site URL. There you can enter the path to the xml file created by Open-Sef. I put in the path to my google_opensef.xml file, and it worked with Yahoo. For example, my path is:
http://www.MyDomain.com/components/com_sef/google_opensef.xm.

SM2Session
 SM2Session bot, May 13, 2007

SM2Session I rated this bot as "Good" because I do not have the knowledge to evaluate it's performance and rate it as Excellent. The description sounds great! Love what it is supposed to do.

It installed without any problems after I gave sufficient permissions to the folders it needed to write to.

phpGedView for Joomla!
Great for Genealogy, April 28, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:

phpGedView for Joomla! As the 1st reviewer said, this component is more of a bridge/wrapper than a full integration. However, SourceForge project page does indicate full integration is intended in the future.

I rated this component as Excellent, not because the component/bridge/wrapper is so good, but because it lets us use PhpGedView, which is outstanding for genealogy.

This component, module, and search bot installed easily.
I had one little problem because I use shared hosting and the mySQL server is different than the website server. This bridge does not have anyplace accept that information, so the bridge would not work for me, until I created a hack. The hack is really simple and can be found at:

NeoLegal
Nice Component displays Contact, Privacy, & TOS, April 16, 2007

NeoLegal Installed perfectly. Made by French company, so English terms in backend are a little different than customary, but it is very understandable. The front end displays your info:
--- begin display ----
Company
Company status : statut
Company name : société
Director's name : directeur

Contact
Address : adresse
ZIP : 01234
City : ville
Country : pays sponsable technique
Email (technical) : email

Other informations

* User terms lay ----

Nice way to combine a lot of your info into a single link.
I would give it a 5 stars, except I would like it to have one more feature. The ability to add more pages. For example, so we could add a support page, or anything other page we need.

Job well done by Neojoomla.com

Unregister
 Is Ungregister DANGEROUS ?, April 13, 2007

Installed without problems. It does let users unregister thenselves quickly and easily. All record of them is deleted from Joomla User Manager. Without Administrator approval, the user becomes anonymous.

Consider that this might encourage users to wreak some havoc before they unregister and become anonymous.

Feature suggestion: Admin Approval before unregistered user records are deleted. A confirmation email would help to dispell the user's impression of anonymity.

Great Idea but still has sql problems, April 12, 2007

Great idea to have a blogroll for mamblog. This is the only one that I have found.

Installed easily. But when I used it from the frontend, it displayed sql errors. On SVtechie.com, the author's forum shows several posts with sql problems, but without solutions. Regarding BlogCal, author posts that BlogCal is not fully compatible with mySQL v.4.0.26, which is what my webhost has. Maybe BlogRoll has the same issue.

Could be a great component when the bugs are worked out.
To the author, please continue with this component. Many people would love to use it. Thank you for your work.

myContent
Great component - needs delete feature, April 12, 2007
1 of 2 people find this review helpful:

myContent Very useful component. Easy to see list of all content you are authorized to view, and then to edit individual items from the list.

Requested feature - include a delete button for easy removal of unwanted content items. This would be very useful if you are an editor which is reviewing and approving content submitted by other people. Now you must return to the Joomla content manager to delete items.

Userlist Extended Component
Great User List Extension, April 11, 2007

Userlist Extended Component Installed first time, no problems. Excellent features. Gave me a user list just like I wanted. Needed User List so members could select people to make Connections in Communitybuilder and invite group members in GroupJive. My previously methods were very convoluted. User List Xtd is most excellent.

Content Protector
Great Component for A Lot of Content, April 7, 2007
2 of 3 people find this review helpful:

Content Protector Wow! Nice, simple, functional.
Installs easily with no problems. (Don't change the file name when you first download and save it.)
Simple to use with great functionality. It auto-detected all of my content and listed it in the admin panel. These are the columns:
Item Type Published Protected Link
In the admin panel you can protect/unprotect items with a single click.

MosCmenuTree
Execllent Module -- Note 2 info items, April 3, 2007
4 of 4 people find this review helpful:

This is an excellent module the does what it says it will, and does it easily.
Two info items of note:
a) The description says that it will create a menu of content items. It appears that it will menu content and only content items. You will need other menu items (outside of Moscmenutree) to access your joomla components and non-content items.
b) The root of Moscmenutree displays a colored link that leads back to the author's website. Authors do heroic work and deserve their credit, but some of your public users might get a surprise detour to the authors website.
