Simple Image Gallery
 great gallery, March 15, 2007

Simple Image Gallery I absolutely love this plugin. First of all it is extremely convenient to use when you have a folder with many images in it and you need to post them quickly and wholesale. With only one set of tags--{gallery}folder path{/gallery}--you can post an entire folder of images, which are automatically thumbnailed perfectly. Very elegant-looking. Image thumbnails load quickly. Great plugin. We use this plugin to post company holiday and event pictures on our intranet portal. Thanks to developer!

WysiwygPro 3, advanced WYSIWYG editor
best editor so far, March 15, 2007

WysiwygPro 3, advanced WYSIWYG editor Some may balk at spending $47 on a wysiwyg editor when Tiny and JCE are available for free, but for sheer ease of use and lack of bugs, it is worth it. One thing it does is it allows the end user to upload images and so forth by browsing a local hard drive--rather than specifying a URL to some mysterious Joomla directory--important when you're using Joomla as an intranet portal and most of the contributors have no knowlege of HTML or Joomla for that matter and don't even know what a URL is. It is the only editor where toolbar pop-ups on my developement computer actually worked, rather than hang interminably.

Not perfect, but the best editor I've tried so far.

DOCman
 great app, March 15, 2007

DOCman This component was a godsend to my company where we run Joomla as an intranet portal and we required a document management component that was easy and intuitive to use for the average end user with the appropriate access rights to upload documents. I mean just the ability for the end-user to upload a document by browsing a local hard drive--rather than specifying some obscure URL--was a major major advantage.

I did have to comment out a line in a php file to get this component to work. There was something amiss with the template at line 32 (somewhere or something like that).

I think that this component should become part of the Joomla core. See how easy it is to upload documents and maintain document libraries on a Sharepoint server. Joomla needs an answer for that. Clunky URLs don't cut it on an intranet site.

Koodos to the developer.

Great software and support, March 15, 2007

As others have noted, it is not the easiest add-on for the newbie to install--but I can say, as a Joomla cherry, it is not THAT hard and is well worth a little extra effort. The difficulty for the newbie is that it is not a standard Joomla component, module, or mambot; and requires a separate and unique installation process. But it is well designed and not buggy at all. Plus there is ample information on the process and a very responsive forum.

You got to love companies that offer a fully functional trial version before you buy.

It really embodies the best of commercial Joomla add-ons. It is extremely well designed and thought-out, actively supported, the support is top-notch, and the thing actually works as advertised. And it is almost comically cheap when you realize how functional it is.

The best Joomla add-on I've installed so far, bar none.
