JoomlaFCK editor
awesome editor - manages images and code well, March 27, 2008

JoomlaFCK editor The default editor tinyMCE in J15 is good, but it fails to deliver on two key areas: viewing page code and managing images.

To move between design and code view in tinyMCE requires opening a popup window with an unformated presentation of the code. It is difficult to view because the text is not wrapped.
Using JoomlaFCK the code is wrapped, which makes viewing code more appealing.

To add or manage images in tinyMCE, there's no upload or browse option, so you have to know the name of the images and where they are located. Additionally, if you want to add new images from your HD you would have to go to your FTP program to upload them.
Using JoomlaFCK, the image manager includes upload and browse options, so you upload new images or browse the image directory to select images to display.

Awesome to find an open-source Editor that offers so many features!

It is working, which is good. It would be nice if there were more instructions on code parameters.

Like how to turn off autostart on google videos!

Versioning
vital function...too bad it's not being supported, March 20, 2008
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:

A vital idea, which for some unknown reason is not a core feature in Joomla!

Every client I have that uses Joomla! I have to tell them to copy the text in the WYSIWYG text box to a text file just in case they mess up the text.

Unfortunately, we are now fully into Joomla! 1.5 and this feature still isn't in Joomla! and this plugin hasn't been updated in over a year.

Great idea...too bad it is a dead project.

myContent
good idea - needs work - but no updates, March 20, 2008
2 of 2 people find this review helpful:

myContent What a great idea. Lots of developers want clients not to access the admin area, so being able to publish new content from the frontend is invaluable.

Two key problems seem to show a lack of understanding of the full value of the idea of non-techies publishing from the frontend.

- you can publish to a category / section, but not a menu, which is a vital part of updating a site. This means someone will have to access the admin area ( where we don't want non-techies ) and manually add the new content to the menu.

- you can publish and see if it YOU are logged in, but it doesn't appear if you're not logged in.
What's the point of publishing content to a site if noone but you can see it?

I want to publish content and link it to a site menu and allowing everyone to see the published content - not sure why the Author hasn't bothered to set up any of this functionality

Too bad...a good start.

Be Involved! - Site corner image... Such a great idea and it works great for me.

gigCalendar Addon FrontEnd
 works well, January 22, 2008

gigCalendar Addon FrontEnd It's great to have a component that allows frontend updating.
Add me to the list of people who would like adding gigs be related to a specific band, so specific bands can update their own gigs.

Deep Pockets II
needs documentation, examples, December 14, 2007

Deep Pockets II It might be a great component, but without examples or particularly step-by-step documentation it's useless.
It's unrealistic to expect people to try using it without any indication of what things do or mean.
- is this a layout tool or way to present a category page or ?
- what is a subtemplate?
- what is a subtemplate - document, directory, default ?
- can it be used to create a custom page or frontpage layout with content from different sections / categories?

Unclear how it's different than existing layout options for sections or categories?

I thought it would allow for multiple page layouts, in particular so I could create a custom frontpage, but it's unclear if that's possible or not.

How can you guys publish a component without any info on how to use it or even what it can or can't do?

mojoBlog
no WYSIWYG editor, November 12, 2007
1 of 2 people find this review helpful:

mojoBlog My only problem and it is one that I had with wordpress is that I want a WYSIWYG editor, not a markup, etc. option. It may seem pedestrian, but the reality is that most clients want something that is close to Word-like for editing content.

IF you were able to allow one of the main WYSIWYG editors, then it would be a good option.

Simple Javascript Menu
excellent and very useful, November 6, 2007

Simple Javascript Menu I installed the module and very quickly was able to edit the CSS file and change the look.
The expandable aspect of the menu module, makes it extremely useful on joomla templates that may not be setup for expandable menus.

Thanks for the module!

flickr4j
works with simple gallery but not alone?, August 8, 2007

flickr4j I emailed developer but got no reply, which is unfortunate since it seems like a great plugin without other competitive options.

I have simple gallery installed, and for some reason there is either a conflic with simple gallery or ?
If I have a photo that is using simple gallery code on the same page as the flickr code then the AJAX part works, but if only has flickr code the AJAX doesn't work.
The popup box appears but the background doesn't blackout nor does the image load.

Simple gallery is for a photo gallery and not flickr photos, so anyone know how to have a solution for both general photos and flickr photos on the same site without conflict?
