Deep Pockets II
I Want to Like It, But..., August 8, 2007
4 of 4 people find this review helpful:

Deep Pockets II There's no documentation and no support. It seems that documentation was supposedly in the works, but if it's available, I can't find it anywhere. I also tried to get some questions answered via the support forum, and both of my questions went unanswered for more than a week.

I get the impression that development resources for this application are stretched, and that the focus is fixing known issues and adding new features. But really, what's the point of fixing or building something that has no documentation and no apparent intention to provide reasonable support?

I'm new to Joomla, so it's quite possible that my existing knowledge level is just too low to grasp the obvious utility and intuitiveness of Deep Pockets II. In other words, I recognize that the problem might be just me.

But I'm sincerely bummed out that I can't do more with this extension, particularly when I read how exciting it is by more accomplished web site builders.

Hopefully I'm wrong about this application, and if so, I'd be happy to revise my review and rating at a later date.

Secure Registration
Just What I Was Looking For, July 30, 2007

Up until I came across Secure Registrations, I was really caught between a rock and a hard place, as my "captcha" registration options boiled down to "Security Images: THE CAPTCHA engine," which seems to have a scary install process, and "Community Builder," which was overkill for me, as I didn't really have any need for the core CB functionality.

So, Secure Registrations is right on the money, doing just what I need without a lot of extra overhead or drama.

One installation tip. Your PHP server needs to have been compiled with both GD (graphics) and FreeType support.
