DT Register
Excellent Software That Works!, February 16, 2008
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:

DT Register All I can say is that it is always a pleasure when youbuy something and it works just as it says. This component is well-worth the money. You do need the JEvents calendar component installed for the whole system to work. The process is 1) input an event into the calendar, 2) you go into DT Register to mark the event as one users can register for and the details. Users register, pay for registration, you get an email, they get an email, you can email all registrants, etc. A lot of thought went into this component. I installed it for a client who has manay community events held at their location and they are very happy with it. I am too.

Joomla Flash Casino
Displays Big Banner Ads On Your Site, April 27, 2007

Joomla Flash Casino Very good games and the graphics are great.

However, be aware the component includes big Banner Ads at the top of the games pages that Oddish Technologies controls. Essentially Oddish uses the traffic on your games pages to create its own ad network, as well as advertise its own services.

Good games, but big mistake with the banner ads. Hence my "fair" rating.

Expose Flash Gallery
Nice Looking, But Disappointing, May 27, 2006

Expose Flash Gallery I had high hopes for this gallery system. It looks great on the user-side, but there are lots of problems on the Admin side.

First off, the developer doesn't tell you that you need to have special PHP modules (DOMXML and ICONV extensions - you only find out by reading the developer's Forum) installed on your server in order to log into the component from the Administrator's side. Instead of alerting users that the software will not work on the majority of servers out there, the developer's comment is that your server's software is out of date.

Then if you're lucky to overcome that hurdle, SURPRISE - you can't upload photos from the Administrator's side! That's right, the component gets an error when you try to use the Upload Photo function, a very non-descript and says "Cannot communicate with server". I'll tell you right now - the problem is not a CHMOD or permissions problem, it is a code problem.

The developer's reply is that PHP is "tricky" and often doesn't work. Well, then why is he coding components in it?

He recommends people should either FTP their photos to the server and then use the "Add from Bucket" option (which didn't work for me) or to use his PC-based program which will allow you to manage your gallery and upload photos from your PC.

That might be fine for some people here who are building personal sites for myself, but it is not professional enough for someone like me who is building a site for a client (a non-profit organization). I can't install half-baked extension like this on a client site.

Good thing I didn't pay for it. I just wasted several hours of my precious time.
