FireBoard Forum
Looking good, but lacks good documentation, March 31, 2008
2 of 3 people find this review helpful:

FireBoard Forum All the reviews sound very promising. The install is pretty straight forward, and looks very promising also. But the documentation lacks big time.

I am not a noob to Joomla, but I am having all kinds of problems to configure and succesfully create this forum. So my hopes were set on the documentation, but unfortunately it lacks good explanation of how to setup this forum.

So then I started looking in the forum, but the reactions there were not to friendly and also not very helpful. It really bugs me if I have to search the internet for just a simple initial setup of a component.

This could have been an excellent plugin, but as the documentation is crap it doesn't live up to that expectation (from my point of view).

Jambook
Easy but lacks (easy) customization, November 19, 2007

Jambook Although the install is really easy, the customization lacks functionality. Futhermore from what I can read from the support forums, it looks like that the author (support) only replies to the question he really wants to reply to.

To customize you have to know your HTML, and at last two browser windows to easily see your results. There is no preview mode. When editing the HTML you can only save or cancel, I really miss the apply functionality here.

It is not really clear which CSS it uses, at first it looks like it uses it's own. But searching the forums it appears to be the joomla css. In some templates there are some CSS tags, but those do not seem to work for everyone. According the installation documentation there should be two templates included, but there is only one called "default"

Lastly there is no supported way of making some input values required.

In it is core it has good potential and it usable right out of the box, but if you want a little more and apply some customization I would skip this one.
