Mamblog
Crucial Component, needs our support, October 26, 2007

Mamblog Considering that it is incomplete (images, comments, etc.) and approaching abandonware, I was hoping that Mamblog would be rendered irrelevant by Joomla 1.5. But that is not the case. So for those of us developing Joomla-based community sites, Mamblog is required.

Unfortunately, there is no support for Joomla 1.5, and the developer's website seems to be down more than it is up.

So until another open source, multi-user, CB-compatible, blogging component comes along, we all need to root for Mamblog.

I'm hoping that Olle either gets rolling again with new updates, or that some young hungry developer inherits (or forks) this worthy component.

I am willing to contribute time to alpha/beta testing, and to donate cash once a new, Joomla 1.5-compatible version appears.

KL_RSSFEED (Tableless)
One Killer Flaw, October 25, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:

KL_RSSFEED (Tableless) I love this extension, but there's one big flaw, which is not really the author's fault, but is still a deal breaker.

The problem is that:
1. All of my feeds contain ampersands
2. Every Joomla WYSIWYG editor I have tried converts a simple ampersand into an html code (&) which breaks the rss feed.

mXcomment v1.0.9
Lots of promise, still buggy, August 24, 2007

mXcomment v1.0.9 Love this component and the way it interfaces with Community Builder! But I'm getting lots of undefined variable errors, and I can't figure out how to get the related article feature working.

ARTIO JoomSEF
Lots of Potential, Poorly implemented., June 25, 2007

ARTIO JoomSEF Pros: Promises everything you need to make a Joomla site search-engine friendly.

Cons:
1. Big bug in latest version (1.5.1): Can't create your own meta titles and descriptions! Supposed fix in forums doesn't work.
2. Documentation ranges from incomprehensible to incorrect.
3. Big problem with unique Page IDs. You'll probably end up with a zillion numbered URL versions of each page. And if you're using dynamic menus, you never know which of those URLs will end up as your link. This is deadly for search engine placement! It's a moving labyrinth of a site map. What a nightmare.
4. Poor support in the forums. To this point I can't even get anyone to answer a question. This is in contrast to my experience with excellent support for other extensions, such as Virtuemart and Extended Menu.

To sum up: Don't use it! Try anything else first.
