This is THE forum for Joomla, April 18, 2007

This is a dream come true. This will very quickly become the forum that everyone is using for Joomla. Everyone who is using any other forum should migrate to Fireboard. This is more feature complete than most other major forums, and the fact that it's a bridge-less solution means no weird incompatibilities, and no worries that your bridge will stop working when the forum has to be upgraded. Better yet, there's skins, real nice skins. Beautiful skins. Everyone using Joomlaboard should migrate. Your site will look ten times more professional. Forget about PHPBB and SMF, this is what you want.

JoomlaPack - AJAX powered backup and restore
Doesn't work on my huge site., January 28, 2007

The author is right...it hangs while attempting to compress my huge website. About 50 megs of stuff, probably.

 1.1.4 Rules, January 7, 2007

I admit being disappointed with Simpleboard and with the 1.1.2 release of Joomlaboard. I didn't even bother with 1.1.3.

Then 1.1.4 came out and I decided to give it a chance again. Glad I did. This forum rocks. Yes, it's not as fully featured as SMF or PHPBB, but then again, bridging Joomla with those systems creates an additional layer of complexity that has to be maintained. I'm not an SMF guru, but in PHPBB, this means that you have to somehow stop users from registering on the bulletin board page and make them register for your site (with Registration Stopper). Then you have to edit the PHPBB template to someone eliminate features that are duplicated and better done in Joomla. In short, lot of work.

What I'm looking for is an elegant solution that's integrated with Joomla and easier to maintain without headaches of bridge software and SMF and PHPBB template issues.

Joomlaboard 1.1.4 fills this space. It's integrated with Joomla, provides good forum functionality for your site, without providing features that you have to disable because they're better done elsewhere in Joomla.

The one place that Joomlaboard needs help is appearance. The CSS used is typically from your site template. It's helpful to know some CSS so you can make the forum look really cool. If you can do this, no one will judge your forum as being less than PHPBB or SMF.

In short, Joomlaboard is a good efficient forum solution. The administrator options are well organized in the Joomla backend. Perfect integration with Community Builder (through the Joomlaboard plug in, each user's forum posts are visible on their Community Builder profile) makes this component even more attractive.

Give 1.1.4 a test run. You'll be happy with it, I think.

Fast, Easy to understand, August 3, 2006

Works very well. Makes the process of adding custom URL aliases almost self-evident.

FacileForms
 Awesome, August 1, 2006

FacileForms Incredible power. Much thanks to the developer. Yes, the lack of drag and drop of form elements is annoying, but you eventually learn ways of working with it that mostly compensate. The tutorials on site are awesome, and the forum will help a beginner get up and running ASAP.

Database Query
 ultimate power, July 30, 2006

Database Query this thing is powerful. hard to get my mind around the possibilities. i can imagine, for example, writing an app that displays community builder avatars and various community builder data column, then has a column for docman downloads by the particular user, then a column for forum comments, and so on. All you need to do is know a little SQL and the possibilities are endless. But, it needs better documentation and more examples for the beginning user to open up that power.

No community builder integration, July 24, 2006

No community builder integration, so it's not possible to see a particular users ads on a CB tab.

DOCman
doesn't work with community builder, July 24, 2006

DOCman Doesn't seem to work with community builder, so there's no way someone can view a user's downloads from their community builder profile.

Ajax Floats

Tons of options. Don't let the CSS comments scare you, you can style this module easily if you know CSS.

Community Builder
Great Component, great support, May 11, 2006
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:

Community Builder The CB team has just released 1.0 Stable. The wait was frustrating, to be sure, but it was worth it, and what was a very solid component is now even better, with a more advanced plug in framework. The forums are very active, and the community is happy to help newbies get off to a running start. You can set up a MySpace-like website in just a few minutes, and 1.0 Stable was written with compatibility with Joomla 1.5. So no upgrade pains. Download it, you'll love it.
