AllVideos Reloaded
Easy to use but slowed down my website, July 30, 2008

AllVideos Reloaded I've given this a go since I need a new videoplayer for J 1.5. This is pretty easy to use so I have no complaints.

However it's loaded with js and it really slowed down my website. Removing it made my website load faster.

I only have two videos to date so it may be an "overkill" for my website.

But for video junkies, it's a worthy component to consider.

MorfeoShow
Pretty easy to use, July 30, 2008

MorfeoShow I was using plugins in J 1.0 which was rendered obsolete in J 1.5 so I had to look for a replacement. I tried one component and had to uninstall as it wasn't satisfactory. I've given this a go and it's very nice and simple to use!

I'm giving a 4 stars for two reasons:
1) I am using SimpleViewer Gallery and the results are to the "right" of the margin so it's pretty skewed. Would like to be able to adjust it.
2) Is it necessary to have a link to simpleviewer on my website?
3) What's with the wooly mammoth on my website?

I am looking forward to the improvements.

Filtered News
 Just what I needed, April 7, 2008
2 of 2 people find this review helpful:

Filtered News I was using another module for a long time but my client wanted something that the reader could control the flow of the news. I knew I had to look for a module that will only display the news of just one module. I found it from the forum, installed it and played around with it to find the right category or section.

Took me about 5 minutes top to configure it and now it's running great.

One quibble: If a web visitor clicked on the number below, then the news ticker stops and doesn't restart until the page reload. It's a small thing but would be nice if there's a certain time out and then the newsticker will restart without having to reload the page.

Also, I tried with W3C validation and there's an error code so I hope this can be updated with W3C corrections.

But all in all, a great tool!

Joomla Updater Script
 No Instructions?, April 4, 2008

Looks handy but there's no instruction on how to use it.

InewsFlash
Need a bit more polishing, March 31, 2008
2 of 2 people find this review helpful:

It can be a very useful module if polished.

1) Add an option to time the rotation. In other words, instead of using rotation timing by default, I'd like to know if I want to make it go slower or faster (actually, slower in my case).

2) I selected option of "no image" and it still showed images.

3) An option to determine size and layout of the module. When I tested mind, it either pushed the content down or was over the content so there's no consistency.

News Tabs
Section, not Categories, March 19, 2008

News Tabs I installed it and it only allowed me to select one Section, and that's it. I was hoping that I could select several categories. This was on Joomla 1.13.

ActiveSWFbot
 Works with IE7!, September 19, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:

ActiveSWFbot I had accepted paid advertisement using Flash on my website. At first I was able to use FCK to insert the flash into the content and I thought all was well because it showed up in Firefox and ie6.

However the advertiser informed that they couldn't see their banner ad and he was using IE7. So with a quick research I selected this mambot and installed it.

Very simple to add the URL (just don't insert your domain name, otherwise it will be duplicated), type in the description, select H and W, and you're good to go.

I then verified with browsershots.org that the flash banner now appears on all different kind of browsers.

This took me less than 10 minutes to research, install, put in the URL, and publish. Browsershot results was less than 1 hour. And yes, my page passed W3C validation as well.

Again, another tool that proves why Joomla is the best CMS!

ChronoForms
Forget everything else - this is THE BEST!, August 15, 2007

ChronoForms I've tried all the forms extensions and had to ditch them all because they were simply too complicated or time-consuming.

If you find it easier to create forms in HTML, such as Dreamweaver, you'll LOVE ChronoForms!

The support services from ChronoEngine is absolutely top-notch, especially for a FREE Extension. Best bargain of the year! I was so impressed with them that I went ahead anyway and paid $25 for a license.

Do you need to send email to multiple recipients while hiding the email addresses from prying eyes? This can be done!

ChronoForms is a *MUST HAVE* for forms on your Joomla websites.

Frontpage Pro 1.2
Nice but need polishing, August 8, 2007
3 of 4 people find this review helpful:

Frontpage Pro 1.2 It's easy to install and to select a Category and/or Section of your content. When I tested with a newly installed live website (1.0.13), it displays the information nicely and quickly. However, it adds what I believe are unnecessary info for the viewers such as News ID, Hits, Created Date. I did unchecked at the Module but no such luck to hide them.

I hope at the next version there will be an option to check and uncheck what should be included in the content display.

It's a very promising extension, and I can see myself using it on one of my website in lieu of a blogging extension.

Shape 5 - Map it with Google!
Just in time!, May 1, 2007
1 of 1 people find this review helpful:

Shape 5 - Map it with Google! I was struggling with the other Google Maps components to add directions on the Google Map but no luck. I settle for the Google Plugin as it was the only one that accurately uses the Lat. and Long. information! Then just as I was signing off my work, this new extension popped up. I couldn't see the demo but went ahead and downloaded the module and published on the right sidebar next to the map. Solves the problem of providing directions without adding more work! Good simple module!

jtexTemplateMaker (Complete Joomla Template Maker)
It works, but..., April 26, 2007
3 of 4 people find this review helpful:

jtexTemplateMaker (Complete Joomla Template Maker) I happen to have some template in my hard drive so I tested this service. It did create a Joomla Template and I tested on JSAS. The installation worked well and I selected it as default template. However, the layout is very simple, just one left and right module, and no header image. Not sure if this omission is intentional as it's a demo service, but was enough to make me pass this up. I would appreciate seeing a real HTML and Joomla Template side by side as an example of what it can do, especially regarding header images and modules position.

AJAX SugBox 1.1
Be careful with this, April 20, 2007
2 of 2 people find this review helpful:

AJAX SugBox 1.1 I installed and published the module and I had to quickly unpublish it because there's no spam filters or IP tracking. So the Admin will be subjected to a barrage of spam and insults. Furthermore, the email delivery didn't work. I know becuase I sent a test message to myself.

Just one date?, April 19, 2007

Is that all that module is supposed to do - just publish today's hebrew date?

There's another Joomla module that not only publish today's hebrew date but gives the visitor the option to convert Gregorian dates into hebrew dates.

Two bangs in one module.
So was disappointed with this module.

Joomla Mod PHP
Reduced my work to minutes, March 16, 2007

Joomla Mod PHP I had permission to copy a slideshow from a static website to incorporate into my Joomla website. I was facing a daunting task of converting 12 small and large pictures to make a slideshow because I didn't want to use lightbox.

I took a chance with this module and was able to copy the code and run it.

Took me about 15 minutes to figure this out and it works great without affecting XHTML code.

So this should be another *must have* tool if you need to use css and/or javascript on a single page instead of the entire website.

Kudos for a great module!

Still in beta, February 22, 2007
2 of 2 people find this review helpful:

This is a great tool to add to any Joomla website offering domain name registration and possibly webhosting. But alas, it's still in beta. If a customer search for a domain and finds one available and wants to buy, the buy now button leads to a 404 page. I hope that JFactory continue to develop this much needed component.
