Joomla Flash Uploader (Joomla 1.0.x)
 A Gem of a Gallery Tool!, October 2, 2007

Joomla Flash Uploader (Joomla 1.0.x) I have been conducting exhaustive research to try and uncover that illusive Gallery application that could run within my Joomla applications.

I have configured and tested every single Component, Module, Bot and Plugin available, but all were found wanting with the exception of 'Album Component' by Roland Breedveld at http://breedveld.net and this truly wonderful Gallery application by Tiny Web Gallery at http://www.tinywebgallery.com/en/index.htm.

Roland's is great and I've posted my Review under his application but the Tiny Web Gallery's 'Joomla Flash Uploader' not only allows you to provide an upload facility within your Joomla site but you can integrate all your Joomla logged in Users to the Gallery as well.

I've wrapped the Tiny Web Gallery and provided an upload link to their clever Flash upload system and for all intents and purposes, it fits within my Joomla system and template seemlessly and without fuss.

Tiny Web Gallery's extensive installation notes and FAQ's are second to none and their English translation is pretty much perfect.

Not only can you and your Users add photos via the Flash Uploader tool but you can also stream many video applications such as Google and YouTube as well as music. Plus their sample videos and songs they've set up are cool!

Coupled with a very slick front end, what you have here is a trailblazing Gallery application which is easy to use and looks great!

One thing I would ask the Developers to consider is to provide a system whereby you can add Users to the Flash Uploader en mass rather than individually. It's a bit of a pain having to do this one by one. Better still, if you can find a way to do this automagically, that would be awesome!

My system is running as follows:

PHP built On: Linux pl1.hostingmetro.com 2.6.9-55.ELsmp #1 SMP Fri Apr 20 17:03:35 EDT 2007 i686
Database Version: 5.0.27-standard
PHP Version: 5.2.1
Web Server: Apache/1.3.37 (Unix) mod_auth_passthrough/1.8 mod_log_bytes/1.2 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635.SR1.2 mod_ssl/2.8.28 OpenSSL/0.9.7a PHP-CGI/0.1b
WebServer to PHP interface: cgi
Joomla! Version: Joomla! 1.0.13 Stable [ Sunglow ] 21 July 2007 16:00 UTC

A great Gallery application with a very clever Flash Uploader that seemlessly integrates into Joomla! My Clients and their Members are delighted and I'm looking forward to combining the power of Joomla with Tiny Web Gallery in many more Member sites.

Great work!

Image Resizer
Outstanding gem of a widget for Community Portals, September 8, 2007

Why is this hiding away under the 'Miscellaneous' category?

In my view, this has to be one of the simplist, most effective and useful Modules available for Community portals! A real gem hiding away in this rarely visited section of the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

As good web designers and programmers, we all endeavour to standardise image size to improve the overall look of websites and to free up server space. Members rarely understand this need and get frustrated when we put perceived 'barriers' in their way.

So if you give your Members a clever little site tool like this, one that completely takes the hassle out of complying with these needed restrictions, then you're onto a real winner.

'Internet bureaucracy' like this is an online scourge and this little widget helps greatly to bring the Community and website owners together in a very pragmatic and helpful way.

Confidence, loyalty and appreciation are the hallmarks of an excellent business. This inspirational little widget is no exception and will help to ensure that you exceed the expectations of your Members.

A great job, my fine Joomla! Friend! ;-)

com_album a simple Joomla Photo Album
Eureka, I have found it!, September 5, 2007

com_album a simple Joomla Photo Album My needs are rudimentary - to have an easy-to-use, Joomla!-friendly Component that produces an oustandingly simple solution to managing Albums and Pictures from an Adminstrator's perspective, whilst at the same time giving my 'simpleton' Visitors (lol!) an easy way to upload their images.

No complicated bridges, no stress, no error messages, no bologne; just super-easy configurable, effective code that works. Sure, go ahead and pull your hair out with those fancy stand-alone Gallery's trying to bed them into your Joomla! site. Rest easy, com_album is the perfect choice when it comes to simplicity in design and use, but with the power to ignite a Community of online 'simpletons' eager to share with ease.

Well done Roland, I commend you!

Recommend Invite Friends v1.8 with Captcha
So far, so good...., September 3, 2007

Recommend Invite Friends v1.8 with Captcha I've tested it and got it to work, but I had to turn off the captcha tool as it doesn't show the picture. Perhaps if you can send me the images across I can add them in manually and get it to work. Captcha will be vital; without it it's not going to work for me.

Hey, but it is free after all! ;)

Quick Jump Menu - Drop Down Menu
 Outstanding Module!, September 1, 2007

Quick Jump Menu - Drop Down Menu First time I've been really motivated to comment on this or any other clever little ditty I have come across on my internet travels. THis takes the 'HURT' out of manually configuring a Drop Down Menu!!!

Outstanding job. Where can I send some money?
