SYNK - Joomla Database Synchronization
It's about time this comes along, August 4, 2008

SYNK - Joomla Database Synchronization I have installed, used and generally dealt with nearly 100 or more components and the support associated with them. The folks at Dioscouri absolutely amaze me with their support and willingness to make the end user happy. While support form most components it spotty at best - even those that are paid for, Dioscouri responds timely and professionally.

This is a much called for database syncing component that actually works and is very reasonably priced. The Joomla forums are loaded with requests for such a feature. Hey folks, if you are making money with your site, support the authors!

Installation of the component and plugins was easy. Their instructions were simple and straight-forward and the component does exactly what the authors claim and more.

Syncing jos_user tables across multiple Joomla! domains ( ours are presently all on one server, so your mileage may vary) is now hands-off, and several sync-trigger options are included for specific needs. This component has finally released us all from the tedium of manual database syncs.

All configuration happens in the control panel - no config file to manually edit. The component can use the joomla db log-in or it's own db log-in, so you can create a user account just for Sync, and authorize it only for the jos_user tables for added security.

For busy sites, the admin can limit DB load by hour/day/week/etc.

The only caveat I could find: Sync only supports the jos_user table synchronization by default. Additional tables can, however, be synced by the use of the custom query option. Unless db query commands are in your skill-set, syncing additional tables could be troublesome. This can easily be overcome by the user with a little learning.

BILLETS - Joomla Support Tickets
What to say other than "Aboslutely Amazing", April 23, 2008

BILLETS - Joomla Support Tickets Five stars is not enough. Nor is there enough room here to say all the great things that can be said about Dioscouri and this module.
Their tech support is of a level that could be considered the pinnacle for which all others should strive. Rapid response, via this very same component. Very knowledgeable, and very very responsive. Request for product changes are met with open arms and if the ideas are solid, are implemented right away. This team listens and responds. Outstanding to say the least. Support like this, and a product that works so well with no fuss. I would have expected to pay several hundred dollars to get this level of satisfaction. The unbelievably low price of this add-on makes it a no-brainer. All for less money than I might spend on a night out.

Player 4 MP3
 Works Great!, December 12, 2007

This module is about as no-frills as they come. Just a play, pause, and restart buttons. Auto starts with page load. The backend is in German, so you may need to google a translation.
The module config allows a change of mp3 title, but not a choice of file names. You either rename your file to the default, or hack the modules PHP to include use your filename. An easy hack, but I don't quite understand why this was not added to the back-end. The default filename is lied1.mp3 which in German is "song1.mp3", but "lied" has the unfortunate English meaning of being untruthful. For my intended use, this would not be ideal should the filename get sniffed out by the end user.
Otherwise, the module works as intended and was a perfect fit to my no-frills requirements for this site.
Had the filename been accessible in the back-end, I would have rated this 5 stars.

Mass Content
 WOW!, November 4, 2007

Mass Content So why is this not already part of the stock Joomla! distro?? This makes setup of a new site so much faster! No longer do we have to wait for refresh after refresh when doing these inital setups.
Thank you for filling such a need.

RemoCheck
Works as described, October 11, 2007

Works just as described. Be sure to read the instructions as this component is called from the brower url and NOT from the admin backend.

I had installed this in hopes of narrowing down an issue with
Remos not generating thumbs. When run, the com did not throw any errors of it's own, nor did it provide any insight as to the cause of the thumbnailing issue. It did, however, provide enough information on my php config, that I now know to look elsewhere for the problem.

JM Portfolio
Great use of flash - a real show stopper, September 10, 2007

JM Portfolio Excellent work by the JuicyMedia crew! The interactive flash page-flips have to be seen to be appreciated. Tons of flexibility are built in to a very easy to use interface. The ability to switch from a vertical binding to a horizontal one, means that the user is not limited to a book like view, but can opt for a calendar type presentation - a nice, well thought out touch. Overall, this component has earned great kudo's for a v1 release. This component appears to only support one directory of images, and only one portfolio. I am sure there must be a workaround to allow different portfolios on the same site ( one for each "category"). The only issue I ran into on setup:
The template .psd file supplied has a different aspect ratio than the default presentation settings (540p x 380px), so images presented too narrow in relationship to their height (i.e. circles will present as slightly tall ovals). Increasing the default presentation width by 100 pixles to 640px x 380px resulted in proper image aspect.
