Phil Taylor's Tags for Joomla 1.0.x/1.5.x
The worst component i have ever used., October 25, 2007

Phil Taylor's Tags for Joomla 1.0.x/1.5.x It started out great but ended in dispair.

Phils Joomla Tags is one of the worst resource hogs out there with over 60 queries to the database on the frontpage only.

It is NOT compatible with non lating languages and there is a number of (outdated) hacks you can try if you want to mess around with coding, didnt work for me tho.

Thirdly the support that is supposed to be provided is almost non existing. The support forum is riddled with questions from paying users that need to get their site online, but no one gets any answer. Phil however seems to help users that wants to pay for help, which is somewhat questionable i think.

I suggest everyone stay away from this component, if you get it to work it will slow your site to a grinding halt.

TagJ!
 Very good!, October 25, 2007

I agree, its a very good extension and doent have all that unnecessary bling that Phils has.

But its almost critical to be able to only search for the tagged items. Anyone know how to do this?

Simple Image Gallery PRO-Image galleries redefined
Good but still lacks some bug squashing, October 23, 2007

Simple Image Gallery PRO-Image galleries redefined I tried this version of SIG because i wanted to get a gallery from just one picture.

The setup was simple enough and i was up and running in no time. But no matter what i did i still got a whitespace below my gallery picture of about 100 pixels. I scrolled thru Joomlaworks forums and found some tricky fixes that sadly enough didnt work for me.

I can however not blame everything on Joomlaworks because i didnt contact them personally, mostly because i saw atleast two or three messages where people had the same problem as I but they had not received any help.

I hope they fix the bug(s?) because that would make it a stellar product.

Security Images: THE CAPTCHA engine
 Recommended!, October 17, 2007

Security Images: THE CAPTCHA engine After trying out alot of CAPTCHA-extensions i finally settled for Security Images. Earlier i held off because of what many had written about it.

It has come a long way. All you now need to do is, install, configure, replace the components you want to use (for example, replace the standad com_register with the patched ones) and then you are set to go.

ArtForms
Good but lacking one important feature, September 30, 2007

ArtForms I tried this extension after trying alot, both commercial and free. I settled for this one, easy to use and doesnt only use com_secureimages for validation but also the very valuable reCAPTCHA engine.

But it is lacking one important feature, to get the form content sent to the admin mailadress. Having to log in to read the form is just unnecessary work.
